Pride is a sin, it is rebellion against God Almighty. I’m not talking about being proud of your children for their accomplishments, but the pride that comes from building oneself up, pride is arrogance, it’s saying that we know better than God does!
God hates pride, it’s what led to the downfall of Satan.
Proverbs 8:13
“The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverse mouth I hate.”
Isaiah 14:12-14
“How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!
13 For you have said in your heart:
‘I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the north;
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’
The fall of Satan was because of his pride, and because of his pride he sought to be like God, in fact even better than God!
The fact is that most of the world is proud, believing that they know better than God does. They believe that they can live a better life without God, and that they can do it better than God could.
Pride is arrogance, it is placing ones self in high esteem, and it is an abomination to the Lord.
Proverbs 16:5
“Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord;
Though they join forces, none will go unpunished.”
Pride only leads to destruction and a fall.
Proverbs 16:18
“Pride goes before destruction,
And a haughty spirit before a fall.”
What is a haughty spirit?
Haughty definition:
- Scornfully and condescendingly proud. synonym: arrogant.
- High; lofty; bold.
- Disdainfully or contemptuously proud; arrogant; overbearing.
A haughty spirit is a proud spirit, a contemptuously proud spirit, high, lofty, and bold! And isn’t this what we see in the world today? Proud people promoting ungodly agendas, contemptuously proud people?
These people are influenced by Satan and demonic spirits. Satan influenced Adam and Eve in the Garden, he told them that they would not die if they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, although God told them otherwise. He also told them that if they ate from it then they would be like God, knowing good and evil. Satan continues to influence people to this very day, nothing has changed.
Their pride leads them to believe that they are better than God, that they don’t need God, and that their ways are better than God’s ways.
The fact is that even if Satan and his minions were no longer around, people would still be proud, they would continue to rebel against God! Ever since the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, humans are born with a sin nature, with a heart that is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.
Jeremiah 17:9
“The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?”
During the coming Millennial Period Satan will be bound with chains and cast down into the bottomless pit for 1,000 years (the Millennial Period).
Revelation 20:1-3
“Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.”
I also believe that the other fallen angels and demonic spirits will be cast into the bottomless pit as well. The 1,000 year reign of Christ will be a time for God to show all of creation that man cannot live at peace without Him. All who enter this time period will be born again believers in Jesus Christ, they will still be alive after the Tribulation Period and have their physical bodies given to them at birth, just as we do today. They will also continue to procreate and have children, and these children are still born with a sin nature. They must also accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior in order to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Although Jesus Christ will be ruling and reigning on earth, there will be many that rebel against Him. They will be living by sight not faith as we are today, they will be able to see Jesus Christ face to face! Yet, many will still not accept Him.
At the end of the thousand year period Satan will be released and gather together those in rebellion for a battle against God and the saints.
Revelation 20:7-9
“Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. 9 They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.”
Pride, it’s what led to Satan’s downfall, and it’s also leading many others to their downfall as well.
