Will you accept Jesus Christ?

Accept Jesus today copy

Commentary by:  Gordon King

Have you heard the gospel of Jesus Christ?  Do you even know what the gospel of Jesus Christ is?

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the “Good News” from God.  You see God loves you more than you could ever know.  He loves you and He wants you to live with Him forever in eternity.  We all have sinned, yes every last one of us, we are all “sinners”.  Sin is rebellion against God.  Sin must be paid for one way or another.

There is only one way to pay for our sin, only one way that can wipe away all of our sin.  That way is by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  All other ways are not enough, the price is too high for any other way.

In the beginning Adam and Eve sinned against God.  He required a payment to cover their sin.  This payment would not wipe away their sin, but would only cover it for a short time.  That way was through animal sacrifice.  Through the “blood” of an animal.  It had to be repeated over and over again, never repaying the debt for the sin, but merely covering it up.

But God had a much great plan, a plan to wipe away all of our sin forever.  All mankind has to do is repent of his sin, to believe these things and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  It’s the blood that covers the sin, however, God gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice, a blood sacrifice.  Jesus Christ is God, His blood doesn’t cover the sin, it wipes it all away, forever!  It’s the blood of God that cleanses us of all our unrighteousness, that is the only way.

This is the “gospel” of Jesus Christ.  That He was born into this world as a man, a God-man, in the flesh.  He was crucified on the cross and shed His blood for the remission of all the sins of the world.  He died on the cross, was buried for three days, then He arose from the dead and ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of His Father.  Anyone repenting of their sins and believing in these things shall be saved.

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

What does repenting of ones sins mean?  Well, repentance means to have a change of heart and mind regarding their sins.  It means not only to confess ones sins, but to turn away from ones sins and try not to commit that sin again.  I believe that if one truly believes in Jesus Christ, then he or she is repenting of their sins.  That is why John tells us that “whoever believes in Him” will have everlasting life.  Truly “believing” in Jesus Christ, means that you do not want to sin anymore, and you believe the gospel of Jesus.  God knows the heart of all men.

Mark 1:14-15

‘Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” ‘

1 John 1:5-10

“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”

This may sound confusing to some of you, however, it is really quite simple.  We are all sinners.  All of us sin.  However, we must confess and repent of our sins in order to be practicing the truth.  He will cleanse us of our sin.  This does not mean to be blatantly walking in sin, but to try our best to walk a holy and godly life.  We come to the Lord as sinners, telling Him that we want to change, and believing in Him and what He has done for us.  Then we shall be saved.  We can lie to ourselves, we can lie to others, but we cannot lie to God.  He knows our hearts and our minds.

It’s the changing of the heart and the mind, then believing in Jesus Christ that saves!  You don’t have to clean up your act first, you don’t have to be a good or perfect person.  All of us can be saved, every last one of us!  That’s the Good News!  He came into this world to save the world, not to condemn it!

John 3:17

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

The only other way to pay for your sins is to spend eternity in hell!  That’s right, hell.  If you choose not to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior then you will be choosing to spend eternity in hell.  That’s your other choice.  There are no other.  Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, contrary to popular belief in the world today.

John 14:6

‘Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” ‘

Do you want to be forgiven for “all” of your sins today?  Would you like to spend eternity in heaven?  No more tears, no more pain, no more sorrow, forever!  Jesus Christ is the answer.
