The Paths we choose determine our Destiny!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

I had some thoughts in my head a couple of nights ago, deep thoughts about the paths that we take in life and how they affect both our destiny here on earth and afterwards, our eternal destiny.  I believe that these thoughts are from the Lord and I want to share them with you.

The paths that we choose in this life determine our destiny, both in this life and the hereafter.

Every decision that we make in life alters our life in one way or another, of course there are some decisions which are rather small and insignificant as to changing our life, such as deciding what pants to wear, or what to make for dinner.

Some decisions don’t make much difference, however, other decisions can alter our life to the point of changing our destiny!  For example, a teenager decides to have sexual intercourse with his girlfriend, she becomes pregnant, and they both become teenage parents, it has altered their lives forever.  Another example would be a young woman who is in her twenties decides to take a well paying job instead of attending college to become a nurse, after a ten years she is terminated due to the industry she is in collapsing.  She now has three children, no husband, and is struggling to make ends meet.  One more example is Joe, he has struggled to find meaningful employment, to find relief from his anxiety Joe has turned to drugs, with no significant income Joe decides to start robbing homes and businesses, Joe gets arrested and is sentenced to 10 years in prison.  All of these forks in the road, the decisions that these people made, have altered their lives forever.

Each decision leads us in a certain direction in life, and each subsequent decision does the same, they all compound upon one another, like layers of an onion, and each decision has consequences, just as the bible says, we reap what we sow.

Galatians 6:7

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”

Making a decision in life may not seem like sowing anything, however, it’s the paths in life that we take that alter our lives.  However, not all things that happen to us in this life are all consequences of our own decisions, sometimes life just happens (we live in a fallen world), and at other times the things that happen to us are actually consequences of other peoples decisions and actions.

There are also things that happen to us that are the result of us being influenced or attacked by evil spirits. Secular people are mostly influenced by these evil spirits, while Christians are more likely to be attacked, and the closer you are to God the more attacks you will endure from these evil spirits, however with that being said, there are many believers that are also influenced by evil spirits, the bible tells us so.

1 Timothy 4:1

“Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,”

The apostle Paul is talking about believers, or at least those that have claimed to be Christians.  This my friends is apostasy!  This apostasy is happening now at an alarming rate, as many in the church are turning to the doctrines of demons.

The apostle Paul warned us that in the last days there would be a great apostasy before the rapture of the church in 2 Thessalonians 2.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-4

Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”

Paul is explaining to the church that Jesus has not yet come to take them home (heaven) as Jesus told us that He would.

John 14:3

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

The point that I am making is that there are even believers who are choosing the wrong path, the wrong way at the fork in the road.  There is only one way that leads to heaven, one path, and that path is Jesus Christ!

As a believer in Jesus Christ we can be led astray if we allow ourselves to be, that doesn’t change our eternal destiny, however, it most definitely can change our lives while we are alive hear on earth!  We still have consequences for our actions and decisions, for the paths that we take in this life.

Jesus told us that the path that leads to destruction is broad and the gate is wide, but that the way to life is narrow and not many find it.

Matthew 7:13-14

Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

Like the layers of an onion, life can be difficult and complicated, one layer stacked upon another, one wrong path stacked upon another, leading to many undesirable consequences, add to that the consequences of other people and the attacks of evil spirits, at times it can be downright overwhelming!

We can’t change the paths that we have chosen in the past, they are what they are, and the consequences we suffer.  However, we can change our eternal destiny if we choose, we can find the right path, the path that leads to righteousness, the path that leads to eternal life!

Our life (destiny) on this earth while we remain in our human bodies has been and is being determined by the paths that we already took and will take in the future.  But our eternal destiny is either determined already or to be determined if we choose the right path or the wrong path!

Whatever happens to us in this life, whatever the outcomes are or will be, it will never determine our eternal destiny if we choose the right path!  Jesus told us that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through Him.

John 14:6

‘Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” ‘

Jesus Christ, He is the way, He is the path, the path that leads to eternal life!  All of us, each and everyone of us must make that decision when we get to that fork in the road, no one is exempt from it.  Make sure you choose the right path, the path that leads to eternal life, and not the path that leads to eternal destruction!

It’s not easy finding the path, the way is difficult and the gate is narrow, and there are few who find it.  The deception in the world is at an all-time high, everything has been turned upside down and inside out, nothing makes much sense anymore!  Christians are being persecuted at all time highs, and Christianity is being labeled as wicked, evil, and hateful.  Jesus Christ is being mocked by the world, and His followers are being attacked by evil spirits.

Your destiny here on earth may have already be determined by the paths that you have taken, but your eternal destiny will never be determined until you have either repented of your sins and accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, or have taken your last breath!  It’s either heaven or hell for eternity!!!

The good news is that this life won’t last forever (for believers), the bad news is that this life won’t last forever (unbelievers).

Don’t put off today what you may not have another chance at, do it while you are still able!

Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior now!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!  Looking up!!!
