Persecuted for the Symbols of Christ!

Standing for what is right, for the truth, not backing down because of the ways of the world, this is what Christianity is about.  As believers and followers of Jesus Christ we have a God-given right to speak up and out about our Savior.  In doing so we also have the right to share symbols of our faith in Christ.

There are many in the world today who say that they find it offensive to see a nativity scene or even a cross!  They will do everything in their power to have them removed from society.  I say that if it offends them then they should just look the other way.  We have the right to enjoy these symbols of our faith, just as they have the right not to look!

Why should we as believers cower down and remove symbols of Christ and His birth just because everyone doesn’t want to believe or look at them?  They have every right not to look, but they do not have the right to tell us what to display and what to believe in.

For some reason it doesn’t seem offensive to these same people when displays of other religions are shown, nor does it offend them when immoral signs and displays are shown.  It doesn’t bother them when nudity, pornography, foul language, and murder are televised and promoted.  Yet, they take offense when the Savior of the world is!  Why is that?  It’s because they know that it’s the truth and they are in rebellion against the Almighty!  Why else would they even care?  Really!

If Jesus Christ were not the Savior of the world, then these people would not take offense at displays of Him or His message.  They are not offended at Scientology, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, the New Age Movement, Satanism, or any other faith or spirituality, but they sure take offense to Christianity!

This gives me more assurance that Christianity is the truth and the way, not the other way around.  The world follows the evil one, and the evil one is set against the truth not lies.  Those under the sway of the evil one, Satan, are led by him and his evil spirits, they are anti-Christ!

And then there are those in the Christian faith who compromise their beliefs and values, such as taking down Nativity scenes because they may be offensive to some.  They would rather offend God then offend those of the world.  And many of these same people who claim to be Christians also believe that we all worship the same God!  They believe that there is more than one way to heaven, that Jesus Christ is not the only way.

Being forced to remove Christian symbols is another form of persecution, not being able to wear attire to school with Christian symbols, changing the name of “Christmas” to “Winter Holiday”, and the removal of crosses, all are a form of persecution against Christians.

It’s sort of funny to me in an odd way, that the world celebrates Christmas, yet so many choose to call it merely Winter Holiday.  They sure enjoy shopping, putting up lights and trees and having a festive celebration, but for what reason?!  Why in the world would anyone celebrate winter?  Because it’s cold and miserable (at least in the Northern hemisphere)?!  If that’s the case then why not fill your living room with snow instead of a tree?

The fact is that we celebrate Christmas for one reason, that is the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!  That’s it, no other reason.  The birth of God into this world as a human, both man and God!  I’m not writing this to debate when Jesus was born, whether or not it was on December 25th is not the issue here, it is the day of celebration for His birth.

We can listen to the world, be seduced by the world, and be intimidated by the world, or we can stand firm and do what is right!  We can continue to uphold God’s values, and we can continue to share the love of God, whether that be though symbols, God’s word, compassion, love, forgiveness, or a helping hand.  The point is that we will suffer persecution in this world.  We should continue to share God’s love, and not be afraid to show it through symbols such as a cross or a nativity scene.

The truth is the truth no matter what, and when the truth of God is shown it often hurts those not in relationship with God.  It causes them to be convicted of their sin and therefore is unpleasant and offensive to them.  However, this does not mean we are to stop sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in whatever form it takes, on the contrary.

Times are coming when these symbols will not be allowed, when they will be against the law of man.  We already see Christians being fined and jailed for not conforming to the ways of the world in America, but it will get worse.  Stand firm in your beliefs, hold fast to what is true, and know that God is with you!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. Dear Gordon

I don’t worry about any of this anymore because I personally don’t believe any of those statues, emblems or images are important to God except in defiance of His word which tells us not to make for ourselves carved images, statues etc. I will no longer. as of this year celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday, therefore, personally I am quite happy for the secular world to have it back and do whatever they like with it. They can continue to worship Santa (Satan) and change the name away from Christ so they don’t offend their gods and I am doing nothing to defend it for Christ because I truly believe He is not in it and never has been! I will now celebrate Hanukkah for 8 days and this year it falls from 24th Dec – 1st January . I will celebrate Light over Darkness by lighting candles saying prayers and enjoying some fried food and giving small gifts ….. I know Jesus did celebrate Hanukkah even though I know it is not one of the ordained Jewish feasts that are observed as part of the law for Israel and of which I will not be observing as I am not doing this in a legalistic way but just as matter of Spirit led choice. I can’t find anywhere in The Bible that tells us to celebrate Jesus Birth only to take the bread and wine in remembrance or His suffering death and resurrection. I know originally Christmas was a pagan festival with worship of false gods and with many pagan images and emblems that have been carried over and are still evident today and also Jesus was not born in or even close to December . The Roman Catholic Church tidied up this celebration from it’s pagan roots and marked it as a feast/ holiday to celebrate Jesus Birth. I have in previous years always observed it along with all my family but I never felt comfortable with everything it stands for. It is not laid down as law whether or not we revere one day above another as Gentile believers and it is therefore for us all to decide in our own heart what is right for us and that is what I have done. However, I have found it is just like coming out of the visible Church system there is very strong opposition against change from what is the normal expectation of the culture around you. It is quite hard to stop doing Christmas… it is after all everywhere and these days starts somewhere in November ! Through prayer The Lord told me of Hanukkah, so I have researched it and think it is a lovely simple straightforward celebration of light over darkness and of God’s miraculous provision and this year ( my first) it is easier to do the transition because it falls same time as Christmas right through to News Year Day. So this year I will be wishing everyone Happy Hanukkah but it only falls same time as Christmas when there is a full moon on Dec 1st, this is another remarkable thing, it can be earlier in Dec or even late Nov.

I understand where you are coming from, however I don’t necessarily agree with everything you have said.

The Jews had carved images, they have the menorah, the carved cherubs on top of the Ark of the Covenant, the star of David, etc., does this then mean that all things made by the hand of man are bad? I don’t believe so, what I believe is that if they are made as an idol to worship then they are bad and sinful. God told the Jews to make the cherubs on top of the Ark, they couldn’t be bad, in fact just the opposite. If we have a nativity scene representing the birth of God how could that be a bad thing? We don’t worship the carvings but what they represent, the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Likewise, I wear a cross everyday, is this then a bad thing? I don’t believe it is, it is not the cross that I worship but what it also represents, the sacrifice of my Savior to give me eternal life.

As far as celebrating Christmas, many believers feel that it is wrong, just as you have stated. However, I don’t. Of course we should celebrate the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus each and everyday, however I don’t believe that it is wrong to have a special celebration of His birth one day a year. Even Jesus went to wedding celebrations, and I am sure that there are many other things He celebrated that are not written in scripture. Like you said, the Jews have many celebrations, each commemorating a special occasion, yet most denied Jesus as their Messiah. If we celebrate Christmas then we should do so for the right reasons with the right heart. Not as a season to buy gifts, but a time to celebrate the birth of God into the world as both man and God. Didn’t the wise men visit Jesus to celebrate His birth and give Him gifts? So why shouldn’t we?

I’m most certainly not telling you what to do or what to believe, these are my beliefs and things that I choose to do.

    God bless Christine! Maranatha!

  4. Ok Gordon this is a point of personal faith and choice that is not an ultimate matter of salvation and we can all agree to differ and just agree that what may be right for one may not be right for another as a matter of conscience. I may be of the weaker faith here . I will be celebrating Hanukkah in a simple manner with prayers and lighting of candles and yes I agree that is using something that signifies something else, the Servant who gives light to all those that follow. I think it is lovely and fits well with how I want to celebrate Him.
Christmas for me is something I have always endured but never enjoyed since adulthood , everyone in my family and close friends know I don’t like Christmas but I understand why so many believers and unbelievers love this time of year especially after all the bad news in the world a time of goodwill surrounded by loving family and friends and I think that part of it is lovely , for me it just has no religious significance and my heart is not in it so I will only observe it as a bank holiday. I accept that for others it has a religious significance and they will celebrate accordingly.
I am not enamoured by anything Roman Catholicism introduced including changing of the Sabbath Day from Saturday to Sunday. Praying to Saints, Mary, etc and I hate the way the pope sets himself up as an object of worship too, drawing crowds to him, sitting on his gold throne, crowned with gold and dressed in elaborate robes and riding around in a glass carriage. Jesus didn’t do that even though He is Lord of Lords and King of Kings, in comparison to the pope Jesus demonstrated the servant heart and He is the Good Shepherd , I hear His voice and I will follow no other.

  5. Have your symbols, but they won’t save you,I have Christ in my heart,I take his word as my food, his water as my drink,my faith is my very existence in Christ, your symbols mean nothing, they are of the world and vain, human precepts, pray to Elohim for guidance to bring you out of falsehood, put on righteousness and abandon the carnal, worship in spirit and truth, this is what he wants, not your symbols.P.S. Yeshua’s birthday is not 25th of December, just in case you didn’t know, and the Sabbath is not Sunday,OBEY his LAW.Christ said,”man does not live by bread alone, but by EVERY WORD THAT COMES FORTH FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD,that includes Torah, the world is in falsehood,Christians are pagans, pray for truth,he may open your eyes if your hearts in the right place in repentance.

  6. You’re damn right the truth hurts, that’s no doubt why you didn’t put my comment up,you don’t deny me,you deny Elohim and Yeshua,he sees.

  7. Thanks for your comment Christine!

Some believers celebrate Christmas some don’t it’s our choice. However, we must not allow legalism to creep in and guide our ways either. It’s not about religion but about Jesus Christ. This is one time in the world when we have an opportunity to share the gospel with them, when we have an open door so to speak.

I don’t like much if not most of what the Catholic church does and especially the Pope!

    God bless! Maranatha!

  8. Thanks for your comment Shane!

We are not bound under the law nor are we saved by it. Let us not fall into the trap of legalism as the Pharisees and Sadducees did during the time when Christ walked the earth as a man. You say that you have Christ in your heart? Then you are a Christian my friend.

Remember the words of the apostle Paul:

    Romans 8:1
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”

    1 Corinthians 10:31-33
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32 Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God— 33 even as I try to please everyone in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.”

    God bless!

No need to get angry my friend. I have to approve every comment which passes through this site, sometimes it takes time, as I cannot be in all places at all times as the good Lord can. God sees all, He sees the heart of both you and I, rest assured.
