American dad dead, family injured in Swiss hot air balloon crash

A California father died after a hot air balloon plunged to the ground near the western Swiss town of Montbovon. Three others were critically injured. The family was vacationing at Switzerland’s Château d’Oex, a region known for its annual hot air balloon festival.

Rescue workers attempted in vain to resuscitate the 55-year-old dad. His wife and two daughters remain critically injured at area hospitals.

A California family on vacation in Switzerland was ripped apart by a horrific hot air balloon crash Tuesday morning, according to Swiss police.

A 55-year-old father died after a hot air balloon carrying his family of four plunged 165 feet to the ground after crashing into a power line near the town of Montbovon. Rescue workers rushed to the scene but couldn’t resuscitate the man.  His 55-year-old wife and two daughters, ages 20 and 24, suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be air-lifted to local hospitals.

Switzerland: couple killed, baby injured as cable car crashes onto wooded cliff

Swiss police say a couple was killed and their one-year old child seriously injured when the cable car they were traveling on fell onto a wooded cliff.

Police in central Schwyz canton (state) say the accident happened Saturday afternoon as the car headed downhill from its top station at Alp Baerlaui. The car came off its cable about 900 meters (985 yards) into its journey and dropped about 30 meters (nearly 100 feet).

The couple sustained fatal injuries in the fall. Police say the baby, which was being carried in a rucksack, was protected from the worst of the impact but still suffered serious injuries.

The Swiss adventurer known as Jetman took flight above Wisconsin in his custom-built jet suit alongside a hulking B-17 bomber.

Yves Rossy shot through the sky Monday in his black-and-yellow rig at around 190 mph, as part of a demonstration for reporters ahead of a weeklong air show in Oshkosh.

GRANGES-PRES-MARNAND, Switzerland (Reuters) – Two trains collided head-on in Switzerland on Monday evening, injuring about 35 people, five seriously, police said.

The driver of one of the trains was still unaccounted for and thought to be inside the wreckage, at Granges-près-Marnand in the canton of Vaud, police spokesman Jean-Christophe Sauterel said.
