(USGS) Multiple earthquakes have struck South-East of the Solomon Islands in the past 12 hours. The quakes ranged in size from 4.7 to 6.9 in magnitude.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA
A 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit northeast of Papua New Guinea in the early hours of Monday, according to the US Geological Survey.
The quake occurred 110 kilometres (68 miles) northeast off the town of Taron on the island of New Ireland at 4.35 am local time (1835 GMT Sunday).
It hit at a depth of 379 kilometres and no tsunami warning has been issued.

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0 struck near the Solomon Islands, sparking a tsunami alert for much of the South Pacific.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami warning is in effect for the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, New Caledonia, Kosrae, Fiji, Kiribati and Wallis and Futuna. A tsunami watch is in effect for numerous other areas.
The extent of damage and information on any fatalities wasn’t immediately known.
