Woman sets herself on fire in Lowe’s parking lot

(SOURCE)  Wichita police say a woman set herself on fire in the Lowe’s parking lot on East Kellogg early Sunday evening.

The woman purchased material to set herself on fire within the store, police said.

The woman is in critical condition, and emergency personnel took her to an area hospital.

The self-immolation left the man with burns on 80% of his body. Witnesses said his body was charred and his arms and face were white.

Police responded to reports of a self-immolation at the National Mall on Friday. The man was rushed to a local hospital by helicopter after using fuel to set himself ablaze near the National Gallery of Art in the middle of the mall, which remains closed due to the U.S. government shutdown.

SOURCE – In a bizarre act that capped a nervous few days in Congress, a man poured gasoline on himself and lit himself on fire on the National Mall late Friday afternoon.

Flames and smoke from the self-immolating man near 7th Street and Jefferson Drive, SW, were visible from the Capitol, where some staffers watched the scene from west facing windows, just a day after a car chase that ended with the shooting death of a woman just outside the Hart Senate Office Building.

The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday in between the Air and Space Museum and the National Gallery. Passing joggers rushed to the man’s aid, several ripping off their shirts to help beat out the flames that burned 80% of his body, ABC reports.

Tibetan monk sets himself on fire in Nepal’s capital in apparent protest against Chinaz


A Tibetan monk set himself on fire in Nepal’s capital Tuesday in what is believed to be the latest protest against Chinese rule over their homeland.

The man set himself on fire near the Boudhanath shrine in the northeastern edge of Katmandu, police official Manoj Chetri said.

He was taken to the Tribhuwan University hospital in critical condition with much of his body burned.

The monk set himself on fire in an alley away from the crowd. Police and residents put out the flames with fire extinguishers and rushed him to the hospital.

Police were investigating but have not been able to identify him beyond that he is a Buddhist monk.
