A police officer was struck by a vehicle while on patrol in Queens Thursday night, law enforcement officials say.

The officer was near 37th Avenue and 27th Street in Astoria when the vehicle hit him, then fled, officials said. 

The officer fired shots at the vehicle; it wasn’t clear if anyone was hit. 

The officer was taken to Cornell Hospital. His condition was not immediately known. 

The vehicle has been recovered; it’s not clear if a suspect was in custody.

San Diego authorities are searching for the driver of a truck who crashed and abandoned a severely  injured 2-year-old who had been a passenger in the vehicle.

The child was in critical condition at a nearby hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Police say the driver and his female passenger took off after the crash in San Diego.

Witnesses said the driver was a Hispanic man in his 30s, wearing a white T-shirt, black shorts and sandals.

One witness said there was also a female passenger who fled.
