Is Homeland Security Set to Arm TSA Agents?

DHS wants firing range within 20 miles of LaGuardia Airport

The Transportation Security Administration’s plan to hire the use of a firing range within a 20 mile radius of LaGuardia Airport in order to train TSA workers has prompted concerns that the federal agency is planning to arm its agents as part of a massive expansion.

A solicitation posted to the FedBizOpps website yesterday details Homeland Security’s “requirement for a firearms range to conduct mandatory quarterly qualifications and other firearms training.”

“The range shall be within a 20 mile radius of the New York LaGuardia Airport. Furthermore, the range must be in a location that can be accessed by vehicle from the New York LaGuardia Airport without crossing a bridge and/or incurring a toll,” states the solicitation.

The proposed indoor range must have 10-15 firing points and be available for block booking over time periods of 5-8 hours. It must also include, “a separate entrance/exit which will permit DHS personnel to enter/exit to the aforementioned 15 point area without interacting with the general public.”

DHS personnel will use the facility for 25 days out of every quarter and almost half a million rounds will be fired per year. A separate briefing rooms for students is also requested. Range rules must “allow shooters to draw and fire from the holster and from concealment” as well as permitting “tactical move and shoot drills”.

The deal to hire a facility is scheduled to be in place by September 1, 2013.

D’oh! Anti-gun Democrat makes ‘bullet’ gaffe

Congresswoman fires off ‘pretty stupid’ argument about ammo

A member of Congress who repeatedly has sponsored legislation to ban so-called “high-capacity” ammunition magazines is being asked to learn how they work before pursuing further action.

The request to U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette, a Democrat who has represented Denver since the 1990s, comes from Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith.

He wants the congresswoman to “get the facts.”

The Denver Post said the request came at a forum the newspaper assembled to hear discussion on the issues of gun control.

And it followed her statement about how a ban on magazines holding more than 15 rounds would help reduce gun violence.

“I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now they’re going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available,” she said.

The Post said DeGette “didn’t appear to understand” that a firearm magazine “can be reloaded with more bullets.”

Smith said, “Let’s be educated as we make this decision.”

And spokesman Andrew Arulanandam of the National Rifle Association told the newspaper the member of Congress needed some help.

“Two words – pretty stupid,” he told the newspaper, while the state Republican party said it was “extremely alarming” that DeGette was sponsoring a proposed ban “when she doesn’t even know what a magazine clip is.”

The Post reported the audience chuckled at her answer, and a Twitter feed noted state Sen. Kevin Lundberg, a Republican, told DeGette, “Just so you know, magazines are reloadable.”

DeGette’s office declined to respond to a WND request for an explanation of her comments.

Pat Robertson On DHS Arms Build-Up: “Who Are They Going to Shoot, Us?”

Televangelist questions Big Sis bullet buys

Paul Joseph Watson
March 29, 2013

Televangelist Pat Robertson has become the latest prominent conservative to question why the Department of Homeland Security is engaged in an apparent arms build-up, asking if the 1.6 billion bullets purchased by the federal agency will be used against the American people.

Speaking on his CBN broadcast yesterday, Robertson characterized the DHS ammo purchase and its acquisition of armored vehicles as “like something out of science fiction: long trains of full or armored vehicles, personnel carriers with armor.”

“What are they for, the Army going into battle against the enemy?” asked Robertson. “They’re used by Homeland Security against us!”

Robertson then quoted Ronald Reagan, “The most fearful statement in the English language is ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help’.”

“Imagine what Homeland Security is doing, it’s just awful,” he continued. “We’re going to talk about how much ammunition they’re stockpiling. Who are they going to shoot? Us?”

Robertson’s concern is similar to that expressed by retired United States Army Captain Terry M. Hestilow, who last week sent a letter to Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) warning that the ammo purchases represent “a bold threat of war by that agency (DHS), and the Obama administration, against the citizens of the United States of America.”

The website responsible for uploading the Pat Robertson video clip, Right Wing Watch, echoed other liberal news outlets by erroneously claiming that, “The conspiracy about secretive ammo stockpiling is completely unfounded.”

Their source for that judgment is a February 14 Associated Press report which quotes a single DHS official who claims the bullets are being bought in bulk and are for training purposes only. Apparently, citing the glib statement of one government official is enough to “debunk” concerns about government activity which are now shared by over a dozen members of Congress.

However, as we have exhaustively documented, the notion that the ammo is being purchased in bulk to “save money” is completely erroneous since most of the bullets are hollow point rounds, which are almost twice as expensive as regular full metal jackets and therefore unsuitable for training purposes.

As former Marine Richard Mason told reporters with WHPTV News in Pennsylvania earlier this month, “We never trained with hollow points, we didn’t even see hollow points my entire four and a half years in the Marine Corps.”

In addition, the article derides the issue as a “baseless” conspiracy theory yet fails to mention the fact that over a dozen members of Congress have demanded answers from DHS chief Janet Napolitano, only to be stonewalled.

Earlier this week, a weapons manufacturer who supplies ammunition to the federal government told the nationally syndicated Savage Nation radio show that the ammo purchases were an attempt to “control the amount of market that’s available on the commercial market at any time,” by forcing manufacturers to hold back stock.

Although the DHS has not physically purchased the full amount of 1.6 billion rounds of ammo (although huge quantities are being acquired and delivered to DHS facilities on a regular basis), it has signed contracts forcing manufacturers to set aside that amount of bullets, creating a squeeze on the market.

Ammunition is in short supply across the country, with police departments being forced to barter between themselves to meet demand while gun stores across America have resorted to bullet rationing. Ammunition is now so hard to get that crowds have started forming outside gun stores when new shipments of bullets are being delivered.

While happy to take pot shots at people easy to portray as “right-wing” demagogues, such as Pat Robertson and Sarah Palin, the liberal media continues to portray the DHS arms build-up as a “conspiracy theory” by ignoring the fundamental flaw in the DHS’ explanation for the huge bullet buys – that the “saving money” excuse doesn’t stand up and therefore there must be another reason for the purchases.

What’s Next? Food, Water and Gas Shortages?

By Gordon King

Hello to all!  God Bless Everyone reading this post!

With all of the chatter regarding the government purchasing up all of the bullets that it can get its hands on, one wonders what they are up to!

Ammo shortages are seen everywhere in America.  It is nearly impossible to walk into a store and find any ammo that you are looking for.  Why?  What are the reasons behind the shortage?

Well, for one thing, the push by the government and President Obama to institute gun control.  This is creating a panic among American Patriots to purchase guns and ammo in record number.  To uphold their second amendment rights!

Another reason is the fact that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is as a matter of fact, purchasing as much ammo as they can.  This is creating a national shortage of ammunition.  Ammunition that law-abiding citizens and the police force would normally be purchasing in normal quantities.  However, there is now talk of police forces nationwide who are not able to supply their officers with the ammunition that they desperately need.

Does the DHS actually need billions of rounds of ammo?  In my opinion, NO!  Do they need billions of rounds of not only ammo, but, hollow point ammo?  NO!  They say that they need it for target practice!  I say HogWash!!!  You do not use hollow point ammunition for target practice.  Any gun owner could tell you that for Pete’s sake!!!!

I believe that the government is not only purchasing billions of rounds of hollow point ammunition to use against the population of America, but, also to create a shortage of ammunition for law-abiding citizens!

So tell me, what’s next?  Are they planning to purchase massive amounts of food and water also?   Thereby, creating a nationwide panic.  Grocery store shelves would soon be empty.  You see how difficult it now is to purchase even .22 caliber ammo!  How hard will it then be to purchase groceries and water?

What about gasoline?  Will they also purchase massive amounts of gasoline?  Creating another panic among American consumers?  If any of you are old enough to have been around in the 1970s, you might understand where I am going with this!  The oil shortages of the 1970s created very long lines at gas stations, rationing of gasoline.  You could only buy gas on certain days, depending upon your car license plate numbers.

I fear that this is only the beginning of direct governmental control over our basic subsidies!  There is no end to what they can and will do to its own population.

Please, everyone take warning.  Heed the warning!  Prepare for the worst.  If you lived in hurricane country, would you not prepare?  Wouldn’t you purchase food, water, batteries, flashlights, etc?  The same for people living in earthquake country or tornado alley.  The warning signs are here.

I am not trying to get anyone in an uproar, or cause a panic.  On the contrary.  I am just giving my point of view.  Preparation is vital.  For any catastrophic event.  Look at the victims of hurricane Sandy.  Thousands of Americans without homes, food, water, the basic essentials for life.  This could be a catastrophic event, only that it is created and controlled by our government.

I am not saying that it will definitely happen.  Just take a moment and think about it.  It could happen.  It sure wouldn’t take much for it to happen.  Prepare.  Prepare for the worst.  What happens if you prepare?  Then you will be ready to face calamity.  You will not have to run to and fro trying to survive!

But, on the other hand if you do not prepare, you will be hungry, thirsty and cold.  You won’t know where your next meal is coming from.  God does provide for his children.  But, God also wants us to be prepared.  That’s why he gave us an instruction manual.  The bible.  He told us to prepare for his coming and gave us many, many signs to watch for.  I also believe that he wants us to prepare for hard times as well.  We know they’re coming and he wants us to prepare physically and spiritually.

Think about it.  Ask God for confirmation regarding this subject.  Ask him if you should be preparing physically as well as spiritually.  Don’t take my word for it.  Ask God to show you the truth.   Test all things.  Put your faith in Jesus!

God Bless You All!    Praise the Lord Almighty!    Maranatha!    AMEN     🙂

Explanation of Massive Bullet Purchase?

Obama Front Group Labels Big Sis Bullet Buys ‘Debunked Conspiracy Theory’

Think Progress fails to address fundamental flaw in DHS’ explanation

Paul Joseph Watson
March 26, 2013

The George Soros-funded Obama campaign front group Think Progress has responded to concerns about a DHS arms build-up by claiming the whole issue is a ‘debunked conspiracy theory’.

John Podesta. Image: YouTube

In an article entitled, OOPS: Fox News Peddles Conspiracy Theory It Already Debunked, the website claims that the, “DHS justified the purchases in a letter to lawmakers,” by explaining, “that it regularly purchases ammunition in bulk to save money and noted that “the 1.6 billion number was misleading because the language of DHS’s purchase said it would need ‘up to’ a certain amount.”

The article then quotes Fox News’ Charles Krauthammer who claimed that, “the amount of ammunition (purchased by the DHS) is less than in previous years.”

However, while the DHS’ own figures show ammo purchases of just over 100 million rounds purchased in the previous two years, over the last 12 months the agency has committed to purchasing at least 1.6 billion bullets. Even if you spread this figure out over the next five years (and discount additional purchases which are happening on a monthly basis), it still amounts to 320 million rounds a year – a threefold increase on previous years.

By attempting to debunk the matter as a conspiracy theory, Think Progress has followed in the footsteps of other news outlets who dismissed the whole story as a non-issue by citing the glib statement of a single DHS official, who claimed the bullets were being bought in bulk to save money and were for training purposes only.

However, as the Think Progress report fails to address, the notion that the ammo is being purchased in bulk to “save money” is completely erroneous since most of the bullets are hollow point rounds, which are almost twice as expensive as regular firing range bullets and therefore unsuitable for training purposes.

As former Marine Richard Mason told reporters with WHPTV News in Pennsylvania earlier this month, “We never trained with hollow points, we didn’t even see hollow points my entire four and a half years in the Marine Corps.”

Not a single one of the “debunking” pieces has even addressed this fundamental flaw in the DHS’ explanation for why it is buying ammo in bulk. Either the DHS is lying about its claim that the bullets are for training purposes only, or the agency is wasting tens of millions of dollars of taxpayer money while simultaneously releasing illegal immigrants claiming it is broke.

In addition, if the number of bullets being purchased by the DHS is normal, as Think Progress claims, then why would the DHS need to justify its bulk purchase of them in the first place? To concede that the bullet buys represent “bulk” purchases is to concede that they are being acquired in unusually large quantities.

Furthermore, the claim that the DHS is nowhere near approaching its “up to” figure of 1.6 billion bullets purchased is contradicted by the fact that large ammo purchases are being delivered to the same locations consecutively. For example, last month the agency bought 240,000 hollow point rounds to be sent to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Mexico, the same destination for an additional purchase of 360,000 bullets which was announced last week.

As we have previously documented, Think Progress claims that it is a “nonpartisan organization,” and yet is bankrolled by the Center for American Progress Action Fund, a think tank headed by Bill Clinton’s former chief of staff John D. Podesta , who was also head of Barack Obama’s presidential transition team after the 2008 election.

According to SourceWatch, “CAP’s Progressive Media project emerged as a major communications war room on behalf of Obama’s domestic and foreign policy agenda and CAP became a strong advocate for escalation in Afghanistan. Progressive Media is run through the Center for American Project Action Fund, the more political 501(c)4 arm of CAP. It coordinates closely with the Common Purpose Project, an effort to create message discipline among the pro-Obama organizations, with a direct tie to the White House.”

According to Center for American Progress director Jennifer Palmieri, the organization is focused around “driving the White House’s message and agenda.”

Think Progress is also closely allied with Media Matters under the umbrella of Podesta’s Progressive Media propaganda campaign. An investigation by the Daily Caller last year revealed that Media Matters is an Obama administration front that strategizes with the White House on a weekly basis on how to influence and direct the news media.

Though the Center for American Progress is shy about revealing its financial backers, according to SourceWatch, no less than 58 foundations have donated over $15 million dollars since 2003, as well as corporations and elitist philanthropists such as George Soros, who donated $3 million for “general support” in 2006.

Given that Think Progress is a little more than a PR firm for the Obama administration which routinely invents its own conspiracy theories in order to denigrate its ideological adversaries, it’s unsurprising that the organization is once again running defense for the federal government.

U.S. Marines rattled by bullet shortage

Rank and file told to conserve as Big Sis buys by the billion

Marine flag sequester

At least one branch of the U.S. military is scrimping and saving every bullet it can while the Department of Homeland Security is on a bullet-buying spree.

Marine Corps Commandant James F. Amos blames sequester budget cuts for causing the Corps to have to scrimp and save every bullet.

In a video to Marines, he says, “I ask you to save every round, every gallon of gas, that you take every single aspect, or opportunity, in training to get the most bang for the buck.”

“This is no time to do business as usual. Things have changed. The landscape has changed. I need you to be conservative in the way we do business,” Amos continued.

Sequester cuts do not seem to have slowed down the massive purchase of bullets by DHS. WND bas been closely following the department’s big buildup of ammo, reporting how DHS bought more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition over the last year.

Members of Congress are demanding the Obama administration explain why it is stockpiling a huge arsenal of ammunition and weapons. “They have no answer for that question. They refuse to answer to answer that,” said Rep. Timothy Huelscamp, R-Kan.

“I think Congress should ask the department about both of those issues, and I would like a full explanation as to why that has been done, and I have every confidence that the oversight committee … should ask those questions,” said Rep. Leonard Lance, R-N.J.

DHS has argued that it is buying in bulk to save money, explaining it uses as many as 15 million rounds a year for training law enforcement agents. But the 1.6 billion rounds of ammo would be enough for more than 100 years of training.

Additionally, the DHS is buying hollow-point bullets, which experts say are rarely used for training exercices. The DHS ordered 240,000 hollow-point rounds last month and has now placed an order for 360,000 more rounds.

It’s not just the Marines who are struggling to get by. Even local law enforcement agencies are having a tough time finding ammo.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said she believes the federal government is building an arsenal to prepare for civil unrest if the country goes bankrupt.

And retired U.S. Army Captain Terry M. Hestilow has written a letter to Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas warning that “the recent appropriation of weapons by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that can only be understood as a bold threat of war by that agency, and the Obama administration, against the citizens of the United States of America.”
