Is talking about Jesus always a good thing, even if it’s false or misleading? Does it really open people’s minds to the truth of Jesus and the gospel?

Commentary By:  Gordon King

There has been a lot of talk lately about the “He Gets Us” campaign, especially the video shown during the Super Bowl.  Many Christians like them, while others believe that they are blasphemous!

I have personally seen two of the videos, and from what I see they are attempting to make Jesus Christ out to be a “Social Justice” warrior!  No matter the cost, no matter if it involves sin, He just gets us because He was just like us.  Really?!  Jesus was fully man, but He was also fully God at the same time, He was without sin, unlike us!

The Injustice of The Social Justice Movement

“Americans have a lot of rethinking to do when it comes to the role of government. Its legitimate function is to protect the liberty of each individual. But over the last 100 years, government has shifted to treating people, not as individuals, but as members of groups, and then using force to dispense privileges to favored groups. Everything is politicized, and the goal of each group is to gain control of the levers of power. This isn’t progression, but regression.”

Is that what Jesus is really all about?  The redistribution of privileges to specific groups of people, the redistribution of power and wealth?  I don’t see it, Jesus told people to help those in need, but He didn’t take from those that had and give it to those that didn’t, nor did He say for the government to do so either.  Jesus wasn’t about the redistribution of power; He allowed those in charge to remain in charge, and He didn’t separate people into groups, but rather brought people together as one (Ephesians 4).

Luke 12:13-15

‘Then one from the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”

14 But He said to him, “Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?” 15 And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” ‘

If you say that the Social Justice Movement is not about the redistribution of power and wealth, then why is it that our very own government is using it to demonize a specific group of people and praise another group?  Is this what Jesus is about?  I don’t think so!

Another one of their videos claims that Jesus was a refugee, just like the illegal immigrants coming into America.  First of all, Jesus Christ was never a refugee!  Second, He wouldn’t do anything illegal, for if He did then He would be sinning!

Many Christians say that it really doesn’t matter what the message of these videos are, just as long as people hear about Jesus!  But what they don’t take into account is that they paint a picture of Jesus that is not true!

Does God want us to lie about Jesus in order for the unsaved to listen?  Does He want us to embellish Jesus and the gospel so that people will not be offended?

1 Corinthians 1:18

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

For those that are not born again, the message of the cross is foolishness.  They don’t want to hear it, so does that mean that we should change it to their liking so that they will?

Romans 1:16

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”

We should not be ashamed to share the truth of Jesus Christ, whether or not it is well received!  We are not to change or alter the gospel, for if we do then we are preaching another gospel then what Christ taught us.

Galatians 1:8

“But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.”

Many people, even those that claim to be Christians, are portraying Jesus as someone that He is not!  They do it for many reasons, none of which are good.  They do it in order to appease those with itching ears, to bring in more wealth, to appeal to those that don’t want to hear the truth, and they also do it because they have fallen into apostasy!

2 Timothy 4:3-4

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”

Sharing Jesus is a good thing, as long as it’s the truth!  However, sharing a twisted and perverted version of Jesus is an abomination to God Almighty!  It is heresy and it is demonic!

Psalm 56:5

All day they twist my words;
All their thoughts are against me for evil.”

The twisting of the truth is evil my friends, and preaching another Jesus is an abomination to the Lord!

Proverbs 6:16-19

These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.”

Representing Jesus as someone whom He isn’t is lying, it is being a false witness and is spreading discord among the brethren, and God hates it!  Lying is bad enough, but to lie about our Lord and Savior, well, you get the picture!

Jesus Christ isn’t about “social justice” or the “redistribution of wealth”, that’s not what He came for my friends!  Jesus Christ is about our salvation!!!

Jesus Christ came not to condemn the world, but to save it!  He came in order for us to have a personal relationship with Him, for eternity!  He offered Himself as a sacrifice for all of our sins, to cover our debt, so that we may have eternal life.  That’s what Jesus is about, not our politics and wealth.  Of course Jesus cares about our health and well-being, He cares about us and our relationships, but not at the expense of our eternal destiny!

When we talk about or mention Jesus, we need to do it in truth, we must not misrepresent who Jesus is or why He came to earth just so people will listen.  The “He Gets Us” movement is misleading at best, and blasphemous at its worst!

How about just spreading the truth.  Jesus Christ is God, He came to earth as both man and God.  He died on the cross for all of us, to pay our sin debt so that we may have eternal life!  There is but one way to heaven, and that is by repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, there is no other way.  By not accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are destined for hell.  Why not share that?  It’s the truth, it’s not misleading, it’s easily understood, maybe not liked or accepted, but it’s the truth!

Matthew 6:33

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Matthew 22:37-39

‘Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” ‘

Let us not twist God’s word nor misrepresent Jesus Christ in order for people to listen to the gospel.  If they listen they listen, if they don’t then they don’t.  It’s not up to us to make a person heed God’s call, that’s up to God!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!  Looking up!!!
