Commentary By: Gordon King
Our world is being shaken by the Lord, and recently many, many people have been affected by severe winter weather all across the globe!
Many people believe that the storms are being caused by climate change, or perhaps just a once in a lifetime severe weather event. Others believe that perhaps it’s being caused by the seeding of the skies with chemicals. Some may believe that it’s God’s judgment upon the world.
I believe that the good Lord is shaking the world, as a warning of things to come. He is telling us that time is short, and He is directing us to look towards Him for salvation! However, there may be some validity to God also judging the world. God uses disasters to wake people up and as judgment. These are signs of the times!
Storm Elliot has caused much damage, both to life and to property. Many people were left without power, food, or heat, many didn’t survive. If God was the one that caused this, then why did He do it? Why would a good God do such a thing? God is in control, and whether or not God caused this to happen, He allowed it to happen!
I don’t have all of the answers my friends, I wish that I did. However, I do know that the Lord often uses things like this to shake up the world. He destroyed Sodom for their wickedness with fire and brimstone, He brought a great flood upon the world in Noah’s day, He scattered the people across the globe at the Tower of Babel, and He had the Babylonians destroy the city of Jerusalem and the Temple and took the Israelites captive.
Genesis 19:24
“Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens.”
Genesis 7:17
“Now the flood was on the earth forty days. The waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it rose high above the earth.”
The bible also tells us that God will use (super) natural disasters during the Tribulation period.
Luke 21:25-26
“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”
Isaiah 13:13
“Therefore I will shake the heavens,
And the earth will move out of her place,
In the wrath of the Lord of hosts
And in the day of His fierce anger.”
Revelation 8:7
“The first angel sounded: And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown to the earth. And a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.”
Revelation 11:13
“In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.”
Revelation 11:13 tells us that there was a great earthquake that killed seven thousand people and the rest were afraid, then they gave glory to God! This tells us that God does use natural disasters to wake people up so that they turn to Him.
I believe that the close we get to the Tribulation Period the more we will feel the shaking from heaven, that this is a precursor to the shaking that will happen during the Tribulation Period, sort of like aftershocks from an earthquake, but these are foreshocks! They are warning signs of the things to come.
The world is being shaken to its core, by storms, storms of severe weather, but also storms in all areas of our lives. The world economy is being shaken, the food supply is being shaken, the energy supply is being shaken, our morals and values are being shaken, all of these things and more are storms, storms that are shaking those living on the earth.
No person is immune from this shaking, not even believers in Jesus Christ! God is shaking all of us, either to wake us up to the reality that He is God, that He is the only God of the universe, or to repent of our sins and get closer to Him, for the time is short! He is telling us as believers, to shake off the things of this world that are ungodly, to focus on Him and the things of heaven up above, and to see things from a heavenly perspective! To perform His will on earth as it is in heaven.
The Lord is calling us to separate ourselves from what is ungodly.
2 Corinthians 6:17
“Therefore
“Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
The apostle Paul is saying that as believers we should separate ourselves from idol worship, from the ungodly things in this world, from sin. However, he isn’t saying that we should separate ourselves from the ungodly, in doing so we would have to not be living in this world, but that we should separate ourselves from a believer that is practicing these things.
1 Corinthians 5:9-11
“I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. 10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. 11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person.”
As believers in Jesus Christ, we must reach the unsaved, and we can’t do that if we don’t keep company with them!
None of us know just how much time we have left here on earth. It’s time to make a decision if you haven’t already. Today is the day of salvation!
Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior!
God bless my friends! Maranatha! Looking up!!!
