Commentary By: Gordon King
The world is full of distractions, chaos, confusion, and it can be overwhelming most of the time. It can be very easy for a believer in Jesus Christ to become distracted and lose sight of what is really important, who we are in Christ, what awaits us, and our calling from God.
All of us can get caught up in the things of this world, especially over the past two or three years. Things like the plandemic, Covid jabs, mandates, job loss, rising crime and homelessness, isolation, rising energy costs, inflation, threats of coming famine/economic collapse/war, and disease, all while world leaders are guiding us in the direction of disaster and destruction!
As followers of Christ, we must remain steadfast in our faith and trust in the Lord. We must never forget who we are in Christ, what Christ has done for us, why we are here, and what the good Lord has in store for us!
As Christians, we are the children of the Most High God of the universe! He has made us kings and priests, and one day we will be ruling and reigning with Him for a thousand years!
Revelation 1:6
“and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
Revelation 20:6
“Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.”
We are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, we are the people of God!
1 Peter 2:9-10
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.”
We are the beloved saints of God, we are His jewels!
Romans 1:7
“To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Malachi 3:17
‘ “They shall be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts,
“On the day that I make them My jewels…’
We are the light of the world, the children of light!
Matthew 5:14
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
1 Thessalonians 5:5
“You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.”
As children of God, we are here to shine the light of Christ into the world, to expose the darkness, and lead others to salvation.
Matthew 5:16
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Ephesians 5:11
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”
Mark 16:15
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
We are to fight the good fight and lay hold on eternal life.
1 Timothy 6:12
“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
Remain steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord!
1 Corinthians 15:58
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
Endure to the end and receive crowns from the Lord!
James 1:12
“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”
1 Corinthians 9:24-25
“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. “
2 Timothy 4:7-8
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”
1 Thessalonians 2:19
“For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?”
1 Peter 5:2-4
“Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.”
These crowns represent our faithfulness to God, our love of God and our commitment to Him. They represent life, eternal life, and God’s eternal love. These are the prizes that we can hope for, our eternal life with God, the eternal love of God, and the eternal blessings of God!
As believers in Jesus Christ, we have a lot to look forward to my brothers and sisters in Christ! Let us not become overwhelmed by the world, but love those in the world, performing the will of God in a decaying society. For it is the light of Christ in the darkness that those of the world can see the goodness of God, repent of their sins, and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior! Amen.
We are to shine a light on the glory of God, so that the world can see in the darkness, so that they can open their eyes, ears, and hearts to the truth!
Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior!
God bless my friends! Maranatha! Looking up!!!
