Commentary By: Gordon King
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are to do just that, follow Jesus Christ! We are to stand firm in our convictions of the truth, to stand firm upon the Rock of our salvation.
It’s not always easy standing firm for your faith in God, in fact, at times it seems overwhelming to say the least.
I read an article today that reminded me of standing firm and what it means to be following Christ.
French general says unvaccinated citizens are “superheroes” who “embody the best of humanity”
Here are a couple of quotes from the article that I found fascinating and also relevant to what it means to be following Jesus Christ in the face of adversity:
“They are of a particular kind,” Gen. Blanchon says about the unvaccinated, adding that “these are the soldiers that any army of light wishes to have in its ranks.”
“They are beings above the average of their societies; they are the essence of the peoples who have built all cultures and conquered horizons. They are there, by your side, they seem normal, but they are superheroes.”
“These are the soldiers that any army of light wishes to have in its ranks”, the same can be said of the followers of Christ. They stand firm in their faith, they take a stand for righteousness and truth, and they have an unwavering ability to stand firm against adversity, no matter the cost!
“They are beings above the average of their societies”, this can also be said of the followers of Christ. Christians are justified by the blood of Christ, meaning that we are found righteous and worthy only through Jesus Christ, therefore, we are in fact above average. We are in the process of being sanctified, meaning that we are set aside from the rest of the world and being made holy as He is holy. And we will be glorified once Christ returns for us, meaning that we shall be perfected in Christ, we shall be like Him. We may seem normal to society; however, we are a special people set aside for God Himself and made superheroes through the blood of the Lamb.
Here are a couple of more quotes from the article:
It takes a certain kind of conviction and persistence to stand strong in the face of this relentless jab assault – especially when one’s job or family is on the line. People who quit a pressuring job and trusted God for provision instead deserve to be commended.
According to Gen. Blanchon, these folks along with everyone else who resisted “did what others could not do,” further describing them as “the tree that withstood the hurricane of insults, discrimination, and social exclusion.”
Followers of Jesus Christ have the conviction and persistence needed in order to stand strong in the face of adversity and trust God for our provisions. Followers of Christ resist what others cannot, as we withstand the storms that come against us!
Being a follower of Jesus Christ means to stand firm in our convictions no matter the cost.
Ephesians 6:11
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
1 Peter 5:8-9
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”
1 Corinthians 16:13
“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.”
Hebrews 10:23
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. “
Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
This life isn’t easy, especially if you are a follower of Jesus Christ! The world first hated Christ so it will also hate us as followers of Christ. However, we have God on our side, we have the good Lord with us who gives us comfort in all of our tribulations.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
God will give us the strength that we need in the face of adversity.
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are to stand firm against adversity, knowing that the Lord is all around us, hears us, and delivers us from all of our troubles.
Psalm 34:7
“The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them.”
Psalm 34:17
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.”
Psalm 34:19
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”
At many times in this world, especially today, we must stand firm in the face of adversity even when the world is against us. We must stand for the truth and what is righteous. It’s not easy as a follower of Jesus Christ, but God is with us and for us! Standing firm in righteousness and doing what is right takes courage and strength, especially when most of the world is against you. However, we are not alone, we have the God of the universe at our side! He will protect us and give us the strength and courage that we need to overcome.
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
