Commentary By: Gordon King
How shall we live in this world? By following the empty words of those out to deceive us or by following the words of God?
The apostle Paul tells us in:
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.
Do not be deceived, that seems to be a common theme in the New Testament. Jesus Christ also warned us not to be deceived.
“And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.”
“Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.“
The apostle Peter tells us:
2 Peter 2:1
“But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.”
The apostle James wrote:
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
We are told that the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience, therefore do not be partakers with them.
As believers in Jesus Christ, we are not to partake in the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them.
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”
We are to live as God lives not as the world lives.
“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.”
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.”
This is the will of God my friends, to be living as God lives, to be walking in the light, as children of light, finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. People often wonder: what is the will of God? The will of God is to live righteous and holy as He is righteous and holy.
1 Peter 1:15-16
‘but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” ‘
We are to imitate God, this is what He wants for us, this is how we are to conduct ourselves as children of God. We are not to live our way, but to live His way! We are not to live the way of the world, but the way of God Almighty!
We are not to only agree with God’s word, but to live God’s word, to act it out in our daily lives.
2 James 2:15-17
“ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
Living out our faith is God’s will, not merely believing it, but applying it! Let’s not deceive ourselves by being hearers of the word only. Live for Christ, be holy as He is holy.
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
