Commentary By: Gordon King
I believe that most believers at some time or another cry out to God for help. They wait for God to respond or intervene, somehow, someway. Or perhaps they think that God will just miraculously solve their problem. But it doesn’t always work that way.
God is the Creator of all things, He even created angels. Angels were created for many reasons, they worship and glorify God, they fulfill God’s will both on earth and in heaven, they battle against the enemy, and they also help humans on earth, both physically and spiritually.
We may not always hear God, but He may in fact be sending angels in His place to help us or to minister to us, to give us messages, to fight for us, to protect us, or to give us strength.
Hebrews 1:14
“Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?”
Daniel 6:22
“My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.”
Matthew 4:11
“Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.”
Exodus 23:20
“Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.”
Luke 1:19
“And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings.”
Luke 22:43
“Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.”
2 Kings 6:16-17
“So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
There are many, many more instances of angels helping and assisting those who will inherit salvation. The point is that we just don’t always know if they are angels or not!
Hebrews 13:2
“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.”
I don’t know about you, but I have encountered angels before in my lifetime. I didn’t always know it at the time, and I think that many times we don’t even know that they are there. However, there is one very specific time that I believe I did meet an angel.
It was shortly after my father passed away, about 7 years ago. I was driving very far away from home in order to go through some of his belongings. It was about 4pm and very sunny out, very clear skies, and warm. I was driving on the freeway, going about 35 mph, since I could see that the cars (which were way ahead of me) were slowing down, not very many cars around me. All of the sudden my truck was hit very, very hard, in fact it felt like I was hit by a semi-truck going full speed! Everything happened very quickly but at the same time in very slow motion, doesn’t make any sense. My truck was shaken violently as was I, it lurched forward and then off to the left side, then to a stop. Needless to say, I was very shaken, and my head was spinning, it took me a couple of minutes to figure out what happened. If I wasn’t wearing my seat belt I probably would have gone through the windshield, that’s how hard I was hit. I opened the door and stepped out, trying to get my balance. I walked to the back of my truck to see what happened, no cars were stopping to help at all. Then I looked towards the front of my truck and a man was walking towards me, but I didn’t see any cars parked nearby. He asked me if I was okay, then told me that the guy that hit me was going over 90 miles per hour. I looked away for one second, then looked back at the man, but he was gone! I didn’t see a car or anything in front of my truck. I didn’t really think too much about it at the time, but afterwards I did, and it didn’t make any sense. I believe that this man was actually an angel that God sent to protect me from the accident. The bed of my truck was smashed into the cab, the right rear wheel was completely twisted off of the axle, the truck was a complete loss and undriveable. I looked across the lanes of the freeway and saw a mangled pile of sheet metal 3 lanes over from me, and I could only tell that it was a car from the front because of a Toyota emblem on it. I walked as fast as I could over to the car, while at the same time a very young man was walking towards me. He was the one that hit me, he wasn’t injured other than a minor cut on his arm. I thought that I was going to see a very dead person in that car, but miraculously both of us were not severely injured. Although I did go through a few months of physical therapy for back pain and muscle spasms.
If this man was actually an angel, which I truly believe that he was, then he just looked like a regular man. He was about 5 feet 7 inches tall, slim build, short blonde hair, nothing unusual about his features. What I did notice though was that he was very calm, and that he reassured me that everything was okay. The point is that we just don’t always know if we are entertaining angels or not.
We can ask God for help, sometimes He just does it, but sometimes He sends angels to do His work for Him. We don’t always have to ask for God to send angels to help us, minister to us, or to protect us, sometimes He just does it.
I truly believe that God uses His angels to protect us, to fight for us, to reassure us, to give us strength, and to minister to us. God loves what belongs to Him, and He wants us to know it.
Another instance that happened to me was feeling the presence of angels in my room. Many of you may have already read my post about it, I kept smelling a sweet aroma, while at the same time I felt the presence of angels. I believe that the good Lord was reassuring me and telling me that He was well pleased with me! I will post the link to it here:
God knows what we need and when we need it. I have personally experienced the presence of God and the presence of angels. Believe me my friends, they are real and they are for us, at least the good ones, I’m not talking about fallen angels.
Don’t be afraid to ask God to send you angels when you need them, that’s what they do!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
