Commentary By: Gordon King
I have heard many believers tell me that the wrath of God doesn’t begin during the Tribulation period until halfway through, I’ve even heard that the wrath of God doesn’t even take place during the Tribulation period. I’ve heard that the first half of the Tribulation period isn’t going to be “that bad”, but according to scripture it is!
In the beginning of Revelation, once the apostle John finds himself in the throne room of heaven, in the presence of God Almighty, and in His hand was a scroll sealed with seven seals (the beginning of God’s judgment/wrath).
“And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.”
The only One found worthy to open the seals was Jesus Christ Himself, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David (Rev 5:5), the Lamb of God!
“And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.”
The Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior!
‘And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals;
For You were slain,
And have redeemed us to God by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
10 And have made us kings and priests to our God;
And we shall reign on the earth.” ‘
The opening of the very first seal is the conqueror, riding on a white horse, I believe this to be the Antichrist, as this is what initiates the Tribulation period, the beginning, “and he went out conquering and to conquer”.
The second seal is a fiery red horse, “to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another”.
The third seal is a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. This represents food scarcity, and a day’s wages will only purchase enough food for a loaf of bread.
The fourth seal is a pale horse, “the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.”
The fifth seal is the cry of the martyrs that were slain for the word of God.
The sixth seal is cosmic disturbances, it will be so bad that the people will say to the mountains and rocks: “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”
The sixth seal tells us that these seals are in fact the wrath of God! Do any of these things sound good or “not that bad”? And this is only the beginning of the Tribulation period! The seventh seal is a prelude to the “trumpet judgments” that happen next, and things keep getting worse, and we haven’t even gotten to the halfway point yet!
God tells us in His word that believers are not “destined” for His wrath (1 Thess 5:9), that He “will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world” (Rev 3:10).
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness”.
The wrath of God begins at the beginning of the Tribulation period, the bible tells us this, it also tells us that believers are not destined for God’s wrath, but it is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteous men. God’s wrath is for unbelievers, it is His vengeance upon a wicked world.
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
