Do you believe the Bible to be the Whole Truth, or just Bits and Pieces?

Commentary By:  Gordon King

The Holy Bible, God’s written word, more than just a book, it’s the history of mankind, it’s the future of mankind, it’s God’s love story to mankind, and it’s life itself!

Many Christians don’t really believe all of the bible, they believe that much of it is merely allegory in order to make a point, like a parable.  In fact, I bet that most Christians don’t even read the bible, or rarely at best!

Many who profess to be Christians do not really know God, and those that do know God yet do not believe that all of His words are true are misled, ignorant, or apostates.  It could also be that they don’t want to believe everything because it just doesn’t suit their lifestyle, which again is ignorance, self-induced ignorance!

What about non-Christians, do they ever read the bible, and even if they do will they understand any of it?

Spiritual context: Why unbelievers cannot understand the Bible

Contrary to common knowledge, there is a prerequisite to understanding the Bible. You must be a born-again believer. This requirement isn’t optional. Apart from being filled with the holy spirit, one cannot understand scripture.

1st Corinthians 2:14 says this, “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

In order to understand the bible a person must be born again.  He or she must be filled with the Holy Spirit for discernment of the truth.  How many Christians do you know that do not allow the Holy Spirit to be their guide?  I know many.  Instead, they grieve the Holy Spirit by not allowing Him to do His job within them.

Many who claim to be Christian do not actually believe that Moses parted the Red Sea, that Jesus raised people from the dead, that there were giants (Nephilim) in the land and afterwards, that there was a great flood and that Noah and his family built an ark, that a donkey spoke, that Jesus told Peter to go fish and find a coin in the fishes mouth, or even that Jesus Christ is God, that He died and was raised from the dead, that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven!

Why don’t they believe these things?  The bible tells us that they actually happened, they are not allegory but true facts!  Is it because they sound so farfetched that it sounds impossible?  Perhaps.  But, we must remember that with God all things are possible!  Our God is a God of miracles, He is God.

The point is that we believe in God because we have faith, and we should believe all of God’s word or none of it at all.  If any of it is in error or false, then why should we believe any of it?  How would we know that Jesus is actually God, or that He is the only way to heaven and why should we believe it?  It takes faith my friends, faith in God and His word!  Remember, without faith it is impossible to please God, therefore we must have faith.  We were saved because of faith, and we should believe all of God’s word by the same faith.

Do you have enough faith to believe that all of God’s word is the truth?  Even the parts that seem downright crazy and impossible?  We must not see things from our own earthly perspective, but from a heavenly perspective, from God’s perspective.

I don’t for the life of me understand how anyone claiming to be a born again believer in Jesus Christ can doubt that any of the bible actually happened.  Wouldn’t that then place doubt in the veracity of the entire bible?  Wouldn’t we then believe that the bible was merely written by man and not by the inspiration of God?

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

The bible clearly tells us that ALL scripture is given by the inspiration of God, all of it, that includes the old testament and the new!  That includes the parting of the Red Sea, the raising from the dead, the Nephilim, and the gospel of Jesus Christ (just to name a few things)!  It includes both heaven and hell, historical events, and future events.

The apostle Peter warned us that in the last days there would be scoffers.

2 Peter 3

knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,”

They don’t believe God’s word, they don’t believe the gospel of Jesus Christ, and they don’t believe that the bible is the truth.

On a side note, in the last days there will be an apostasy of the church, meaning that many who claim to be believers will walk away from the truth, they will believe lies.  The apostle Paul tells us of a great apostasy that will take place before the rapture of the church.

2 Thessalonians 2:3

“Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,”

I believe that this is a shaking of the church to separate those that are true Christians from those that only claim to be Christians.  Apostasy means to fall away from, to abandon, and you cannot fall away or abandon something that you did not formerly belong to.  Many who belong to a church are not born again, although they may claim to be a Christian.

Matthew 24:10

“And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another.” (ESV)

Matthew 7:21-23

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ “

Don’t we already see that happening now in great numbers?  Many in the church are falling away from the truth of the bible and believing lies!  This my friends is apostasy!  How many so-called believers have you heard of that don’t believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven?  Or that the parting of the Red Sea never actually happened, or even that Jesus Christ is not actually God but was a “good” prophet?

Believe what you will my friends, but for me I choose to believe that all of scripture is the truth, that all of it happened and will happen in the future, just as the bible told us it would!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!
