Commentary By: Gordon King
When times are tough, when we are under the stresses of this world, it is often difficult to wait upon the Lord to answer our prayers. Besides us just being impatient, we don’t know just how God will answer our prayers, or for that matter when!
We must remember that His thoughts are not our thoughts, and our ways are not His ways.
‘ “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.” ‘
Many things of God are mysteries to us, and we don’t always know just how or when God will answer our prayers, but He will answer, we may not like the answer but He will answer.
“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
The word of the Lord shall not return to Him void, meaning that it shall be accomplished.
“And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
“Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,
And your justice as the noonday.
7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.”
Trust in the Lord and do good. Delight in the Lord. Commit your way to the Lord. Trust in Him and He will bring it to pass. Rest in the Lord, wait patiently for Him. Do not worry about those that bring wicked schemes to pass (how relevant for the days we are now living in!).
If we trust in the Lord, if we walk in His ways, then He will bring our prayers to pass. We are also told to wait patiently for the Lord, to rest in the Lord. It’s not always so easy to wait upon the Lord, however, by waiting upon the Lord we are trusting in the Lord to follow through!
“But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
By waiting upon the Lord we shall have renewed strength, we shall mount up with wings like eagles, we shall run and not be weary, we shall walk and not faint! How great is that?! Waiting upon the Lord is not only a wise thing to do in order for us to have answered prayers, it’s a wise thing to do because it builds us up and strengthens us. Waiting upon the Lord increases our faith and trust in the Lord as well. It also teaches us to be patient with the Lord, knowing that He hears us and that He will answer us in His own time.
The more that we wait upon the Lord the more faith that we shall have and the greater our trust in God will be. It’s all about our relationship with God. He created us and He will provide for us, He just wants us to love Him and trust Him.
God may not always answer our prayers the way that we want Him to, but still He will answer them, maybe not in our timing. But God knows what is best for us, and He knows that many if not most of us will go through some very difficult times. However, God makes all things work together for the good of those that love Him, to those who are called according to His purpose.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
The good Lord loves us, God is so good! His love for us is real, it is unconditional, and nothing can ever separate us from the love of God, nothing!
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
So whatever happens to us in this world God is with us and for us, and nothing can separate us from His love! The love that Jesus Christ shared with us on the cross is eternal, it’s the most loving thing that anyone could ever do for another!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
