The Wonders of God…Listen to His Voice!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

It’s amazing to me at just how connected we are to God, from everything that we do, from all that we are, God is interconnected with us much more than we think He is!

I’ve been told recently that dreams which I have had from God are merely my own brain waves, either that or indigestion, but is that really the truth?  We can read throughout scripture and find many times when God has spoken to people through visions and dreams, they are real and they do happen, they still do!

A few years ago I was having many dreams, dreams which I believe were from the Lord, they all had significance and meaning.  Most of these dreams occurred to me from 2013 to 2016 and I have posted many on this website, I occasionally still have them, but nothing like I did then.  I have also had visions from the Lord, visions of His presence, visions of dangers shortly coming, and they in fact did come to pass!  I’m not a prophet and I have never claimed to be one, however, that does not mean that the Lord does not give us visions and dreams, perhaps not everyone, but some believers do receive visions and dreams from the Lord, even some unbelievers do!

God is with us, He is within us, so why would it be so far-fetched to believe that He would speak to us through visions and dreams?  He speaks to our spirit and our soul, so why not in visions and dreams?

God gives us so many signs, signs of who He is, signs of what He is about to do, signs of what is about to come.  The bible even tells us that we are to be watching for signs, very specific signs, signs that signify the closeness of His coming.  He tells us to watch and be ready at all times.  He also tells us to listen to His voice.

John 10:27

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

As believers we need to be listening to God, we need to hear His voice, and sometimes He speaks through visions and dreams.  We should never cast aside all visions and dreams as if they are our own imaginations, but listen, pray, and compare it to God’s word.

When God speaks we need to listen, and God speaks to us in many ways, some being visions and dreams, some in our spirit, some through other people, through circumstances, through answered prayer, and of course always through His word the bible.

If God is Almighty, if He is Omnipresent and Omniscient, then why is it so hard to believe that He could or would speak to us through visions and dreams?

Other times we may have a sense of something, a deep seated feeling inside about something, a situation, or a person.  The Holy Spirit within us is our guide, He gives us this sense, He discerns for us.  We should not grieve the Holy Spirit by not heeding His voice, but give heed to it!

I believe that many have given visions and dreams from God a bad name, many have come in the name of the Lord giving false prophecies, this has led many to believe that visions and dreams from God are not real, that they are just our imaginations.

First of all, just because a person has a vision or dream from God does not mean that it is a prophecy, it could be a warning of things to come, and not all dreams or visions are from God. For some reason I believe that God gives some of us these visions and dreams, why? I’m not always sure, but I do know that He is telling us something, something of significance and importance!

There are too many Christians that don’t believe in the supernatural power of God, it just seems too “supernatural” to them. But that’s just it, God is supernatural! They attribute the supernatural with the occult, with sorcerers and witches, and things that are out of the norm they brush aside. Of course we are to stay away from witchcraft, from things that are not of God, but not from God or the things of God!

Being a Christian does not mean that we will have a “supernatural” experience with God, however we can.  We shouldn’t be waiting around for God to give us visions or dreams, but we shouldn’t deny that He can or will either.  I am not waiting by each day for the Lord to give me visions and dreams, and when I have received them they were always unexpected, always!

When I was born again I felt God’s presence within me, rushing through me, I know that many if not most believers don’t have that experience, but I did.  This doesn’t make me any better than the next, it just means that I did.  It’s the same with visions and dreams, I cannot help that I received them, I just know that I did.  It doesn’t mean that I am any better than anyone else, but I do feel blessed that I have!

So who is to tell me that what I have experienced with God is not real?  Who is to say that what God has given me is not from God?  Sure, people can tell me that I haven’t really heard from the Lord, but I know differently!

I’m not sure exactly why I have heard from God as I have, but I can tell you that I am a very sensitive person, and I believe this just may be one of the reasons why, it’s both a blessing and a curse.  In order to hear from God we must be willing to hear from God.  We also must be listening and not discard it as not being from God.  We must be sensitive to His Spirit.  I believe that because I am sensitive I am also sensitive to His Spirit, I can feel it, sense it, and am aware of it, at times much more then at other times.

Our perception of who God is plays a vital role in how we view what God can and will do, and it either limits our ability to hear Him or gives us the ability to hear Him.  When God speaks do we perceive it as being from God?

Job 33:16-18

For God may speak in one way, or in another, Yet man does not perceive it.  15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, When deep sleep falls upon men, While slumbering on their beds,  16 Then He opens the ears of men,  And seals their instruction.”

I think that is fascinating!  The book of Job is the oldest known book of the bible, written almost four thousand years ago, yet sounds like it was written yesterday and is just as pertinent today as it was then!

God speaks to us in one way or another, yet man does not perceive it.  In dreams, in visions of the night, while we slumber in our beds, then He opens the ears of men.  Is this the truth or a lie?  It’s written in the pages of scripture, so you either believe all of scripture to be the truth or you don’t.

God is Spirit, He is the same today as He was yesterday and always will be!  God does things beyond our comprehension, and giving us visions and dreams is a walk in the park for God, it’s what He does!

I for one will not limit God’s ability to communicate with us, I will perceive what I believe to be from God from God!  It is through His Holy Spirit that I know these things to be true.

Sometimes God chooses to speak through us through visions and dreams because that is the best time that He can get our attention.  When the cares of this world have been put to rest, when the hustle and bustle of life is at a stand still, when the noise is to a minimum, when our thoughts are at rest.  He wants our attention and sometimes that’s the only time He can get it!

Believe what you will, I’m not going to twist anyone’s arm to believe that visions and dreams can and do come from God.  As for me, I believe it!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. Some of the worst moments of conviction I’ve ever experienced came from Him, by way of my dreams. I still shudder and cry at the thought of some of the dreams He’s used to convict me of wrongdoing. Trust and believe He communicates with us through our dreams….

I believe it brother, but not all Christians do, just as many do not believe in the rapture of the church either.

    God bless! Maranatha! Gordon

  3. I’m still undecided on the Rapture, as I haven’t researched it, yet. It’s on my to-do list, but I’m focused on my current topic, the Sermon on the Mount.

As far as the rapture goes I have written quite a few posts regarding it. They can save you some time if you would like to read them, they are full of bible verses. If you go to the heading links at the top of the page you will see “Don’t Get Left Behind, Prepare!!!”, hover over that link then a drop down menu appears, scroll down to “The Rapture” and click on it. I have 5 posts there that I have written. You can also type rapture into the search menu as well, but I suggest the other way first.

The rapture does not affect our salvation, however it is a very important biblical doctrine, as Jesus Himself tells to be ready and watching for His return for us.

    God bless! Maranatha! Gordon
