Trusting in God!

Commentary By: Gordon King

Even during times of great adversity God is good!  The Lord God Jesus Christ is always good, He is righteous, holy, faithful and true!

We trust in God when times are good, but do we trust in Him when times are difficult?  It’s easy to trust in the Lord when things are going our way, when life is good, when we are at peace with the world, but it’s not always so easy when the chips are down, when it seems as if the entire world is against us, when there is chaos and turmoil surrounding us.

I am telling you from experience my friends that God is always good, that not only can we trust in Him when times are good but even more so when times are bad!

It’s not always so easy to see God’s hand in our life when things are going our way, but His hand really sticks out when times are difficult, in fact the more difficult they are the more that we can see God’s hand working miracles!

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah

There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;
God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord,
Who has made desolations in the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.

10 Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!

11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah”

The year 2020 has been filled with misery, heartache, pain and suffering, and it almost feels like we have reached the end of all things, and in many ways perhaps we have.  However, with that being said, God is still with us!  The good Lord is here and His miracles never cease.  Through the darkness, through the evil and wickedness, the Lord is showing His hand throughout the world, bringing many to salvation, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and clothing the naked.  But He is doing so much more than that, He is our shelter, our refuge, and our strength, He comforts us in times of trouble, He hears us and answers prayer!

I don’t know about you but I have seen the hand of God working in my life throughout the year, even during hardship and adversity, the Lord has listened to my prayers and answered them!  Amen.  God is good!

The more that I see God working in my life the closer I get to Him, the more that I see that He cares for me the stronger my relationship with Him becomes, for I know that He is listening to me and hears my cry.  My trust is in the Lord, my God, my Savior Jesus Christ, the Rock of my salvation!

Through my experience with God I would have to say that it is easier for me to trust in God when things are bad, for I can see Him much more clearly working in my life.  When the Lord works in my life during difficult times it’s much easier to see then in good times, just as a light shining in the darkness is much easier to see then a light shining in the middle of the daylight.

The righteousness of God really stands out in times of adversity as well, when the world becomes darker, more evil and wicked, then the truth of God shines like a beacon, it exposes the darkness, and those who are led by darkness don’t like it one bit!  We witness this more and more each day, as believers are mocked, scorned, and ridiculed, with increased persecution against us as the days go by.

As the evil and wickedness increase in the world day by day God is still with us, and God is always good!  He can be trusted in both good times and in bad, during the calm and through the storms.  We may not always see it but He is providing for us, we may not always feel His presence but He is there, we may not feel that He cares but we are precious in His sight and He loves us dearly!

As believers in Jesus Christ, as His followers we are also God’s His children, loved by God in a special way.

1 John 3:1

“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.”

He loves us so much that He is sharing His inheritance with us!

Romans 8:16-17

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”

The good Lord is with us always, in times of trouble, both in good times and in bad, and nothing will ever separate us from His love, nothing!

Romans 8:35-39

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

As long as we are born again then the good Lord will not allow anyone or anything from snatching us out of His mighty hand!

John 10:27-30

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.30 I and My Father are one.”

When we witness the goodness of God, when we see Him answering our prayers and performing miracles in our life then we know that we can trust Him.  We can trust God in all things at all times, good times, bad times, all times.  Not only can we trust Him in caring for us and loving us but we can also trust the promises that He has made to us, each and everyone!  This means that we can trust in our salvation, we can trust in our eternal life, we can trust that the Lord will come in the air one day to take us home!  Amen.

Increase your faith, trust in God!  Be aware of God working in your life, and know that He is with you always!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. Thank you Gordon this was encouraging!
    Brother will you pray for me please.?…
    I had a dream last night where I saw the rapture people going up , I think God asked me if I was willing to be left behind and I said Your will be done, I raised my arms and prayed and praised and as I was praying and praising God, I hoped He would change His mind and take me up with everyone but I was left behind.
    I have prayed about it this morning and the word ‘doubt’ came to my mind. I believe it is because I doubted that I was fully forgiven. I have recently become so condemned by the enemy and ruminating on my past sins and failings and constantly repenting of the same things over and over again, only to feel condemned again a day or so later. I had come down so hard on myself, feeling so ashamed and unworthy and only worthy of destruction, I felt worn out and like giving up , I hated myself so much.
    If you read this I would really appreciate prayer. I repent of doubt and unbelief and long to be fully restored in faith believing on the finished work of Jesus, saved by the grace and mercy of God.

    God bless you brother

  3. Thanks for your comment Myrtle Esther!

    I’m sorry that you are going through this sister, I truly am. But I have to say that it is not from the Lord.

    Psalm 103:1-5
    “Bless the Lord, O my soul;
    And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
    2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
    And forget not all His benefits:
    3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
    Who heals all your diseases,
    4 Who redeems your life from destruction,
    Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
    5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
    So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

    The Lord has forgiven you of all of your sins sister, all of them!

    It could be that some of it is coming from you yourself, as we become closer to God then we feel more convicted of our sins, we feel less worthy. However, the good Lord told us that He has forgiven us of our sins, all of them, and removed them as far as the East is from the West.

    Psalm 103:12
    “As far as the east is from the west,
    So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

    As far as the East from the West, that is for eternity!

    I have no doubt that you are born again! If you were not then you wouldn’t even be concerned about these things, however it really bothers you, this is a sign of a true believer.

    I feel your struggle, for I too find myself repenting of past sins over and over again, even though I know in my heart that God has already forgiven me of them once and for all.

    Like I said earlier, some of this is coming from you, but it may also be coming from Satan. For Satan is a liar and a thief! His is to steal, kill, and destroy. This is what he is attempting to do with you, to steal your joy, to kill your spirit, to destroy what God has justified, sanctified, and glorified as righteous and holy, to destroy what belongs to God Almighty, Jesus Christ!

    We are in a battle, not only a struggle between the flesh and the spirit, but an all out war against evil spirits! Put on the whole armor of God and know that He loves you, and nothing shall separate you from His love for you, nothing!

    Doubt, it’s one of the most powerful weapons of the enemy, and once he has successfully placed it in our mind then it can be a difficult battle to overcome. But never forget that Jesus Christ has already overcome the enemy, and that we are one with Christ and Christ is one with us! Therefore, we ourselves have already overcome the enemy as well!

    None of us are worthy of salvation, no, not one! Each of us has sinned against God, it’s not what we do that gets us into heaven but what He has done for us, it’s all by the grace of God Almighty! That’s what makes it so wonderful and special.

    Of course I will pray for you sister! Without a doubt. And I will continue to pray for you.

    Good Lord in heaven, my Father, listen to my prayer, please oh Lord have mercy upon us, have mercy upon my sister Christine. For she is being filled with doubt by the enemy. I pray that You bind the evil spirits that are hindering her, that are placing these doubts in her mind and in her dreams. I pray that You not only bind them but cast them far from her, as far as the East is from the West. I pray that You fill Christine with Your Love, with Your peace, with Your comfort. I pray that Your restore her faith, that remove any doubts that she has in her mind, and that You feel it instead with faith, with certainty, and with Your love. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

    God bless sister Christine! Maranatha! Gordon

    And thanks so much for the bible verses, very much needed in these times of trouble!

    God bless! Maranatha! Gordon

  5. Thank you Gordon and amen!
    I have come through that attack and I am standing in the promises of the Lord!
    Yes Satan loves to condemn and sow doubt and when you are going through an intense attack it is hard to recognize where it is coming from especially when he uses dreams of the rapture.
    Any way I am fully submitted to The Lord resting in Him so what he mean’t for harm God has turned it for good!
    Jesus is our blessed hope and I truly believe we will not be waiting much longer!

  6. Great to hear that Christine!

    God is so good, faithful, and true. It’s often difficult going through adversity, we always need to remember who we are in Christ, and that God is so much bigger than we are, He will never leave us nor forsake us! Amen.

    God bless! Maranatha! Gordon

  7. Hi Gordon

    I am not entirely sure the dream was from the enemy or myself although it could have been because of my feelings of unworthiness and battling doubts for some days/weeks before I had it. However, I did learn somethings from it that has helped me to come to a place where I am submitted and resting in The Lord, it was my first actual rapture dream, I share the sobering interpretation I had…. Are we submitted to God’s will so no matter what we are facing in our life, we will be submitted to Him and allowing Him to use us for His Glory and purpose even if we face persecution, maybe even death? We can think we are submitted when we think we will escape the worst of persecution but what about if we are asked to stay behind ? In the dream I thought I heard The Lord ask me if I was willing to be left behind, I said ‘Your will be done’, and I was left behind. When I woke up , I was downcast all day, distressed that I had been left behind, I really struggle in this world and have been watching and waiting for our blessed hope for years. Anyway, to cut a long story short after seeking through prayer the interpretation of that dream, I did receive the word doubt and thought it was because of my struggles under enemy attack of condemnation which had been going on relentlessly for some time but later came to understand that although I had said ‘your will be done,’ I did not really mean it, I was not totally submitted to His will without any conditions added. Then I thought of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus felt the need to pray three times in Gethsemane before He reached a sense of peace. Too often we feel obliged to move immediately into “Yet your will, not mine” before we have lingered with our true feelings and expressed them to God. The dream showed me that I am not as submitted and as honest with God as I believed I was ,so I lingered in prayer and wrestled with self and God to truly come to that place of peace where I am resting, trusting God and His grace whatever lies ahead for me. . Pray always you will be found worthy to escape all these things but remember God’s grace is sufficient for all our needs. I don’t know if that dream was an enemy attack or was from my own fears based on condemnation of the enemy or was it truly from the Lord so I don’t want to say it was or wasn’t but either way The Lord has turned it to good bringing me to a better place of surrendering my will to The Lord.

    Thank you for your prayers
    God bless brother

  8. Thanks for your comment Myrtle Esther!

    All of us can and do have some doubts at times, but where does this doubt come from, I mean ultimately come from? It sure doesn’t come from the Lord. We can have doubts from the world and those of the world, we can have doubts from our flesh but not from the spirit. I believe that ultimately all doubt comes from Satan, it is demonic. Satan is a liar, he lied to Eve in the Garden, he placed doubts in her mind, and she chose to believe Satan, and he has been lying to all of us ever since. Satan is the god of this world and those that are of this world, and his is to steal, kill, and destroy, especially the things of God including us.

    Since we are children of God we can trust in Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” God has used this for your good, to bring you into a stronger relationship with Him, Amen. He makes even wicked things against us work together for our good, that’s the God that we worship!

    I don’t believe that it was the Lord who placed doubt into your mind, however He did allow it to happen, and perhaps for a reason, perhaps for you to take a deeper look at your relationship with Him.

    Never forget that the enemy is out and about seeking whom they may destroy, they are evil and wicked, and they are attacking us continually. This is why it is so important for us all to put on the whole armor of God daily, for we are in a battle against evil spirits, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places.

    I’m not saying that this is how you are Christine, but many believers are this way, they believe in God by how they “feel”, by what they “experience” of God. They rely on their feelings and emotions as a guide to their relationship with God. But that’s not how it works, our emotions and feelings are fleeting at best, they change at a moments notice. Our relationship with God is according to His word, the word of God is the truth, His promises are true, and He is His word, Jesus Christ is the Word of God! I know that you already know these things, but it may help to hear them from another believer. This is why it is so vital for us to read, study, and know the word of God, so that we don’t get caught up in the myths, fables, and lies of the secular world.

    I’m sure you read my post today about our righteousness of God? I talked about how many in the church today are apostates, that they don’t believe the whole bible to be the truth, that they do not rely on it as the supreme authority for their lives, that they have itching ears and follow the doctrines of demons. We must be very careful that we do not get led astray by such people, by such a spirit which is not from the Lord.

    God loves us dearly, He wants the best for us, all He wants is for us to love Him in return, to trust in Him, to have faith in Him, that’s it.

    It sounds like you are feeling better and I am grateful and thankful to the Lord for that! He is good and has answered my prayers, Amen.

    Stay strong sister, shelter yourself under the mighty wings of the Lord and know that He cares for you dearly!!!

    God bless sister! Maranatha! Gordon

  9. Thank you Gordon,
    I always listen to what you say because I know your heart and trust you as a sincere brother in Christ. The Lord brought me into contact with you for a purpose and it has been good for me to have someone to share with and run things by over the years.
    ‘Two Are Better Than One, For If Either Of Them Falls, One Can Help The Other Up’ – In my case that is so very true because I didn’t have anyone in my family or close by who shared my faith in Spirit and Truth. As you say in your recent post many in so called churches today are apostates and I have been led out of such gatherings.
    However, I wish to share some good news with you…my Sister is now professing her faith in Jesus having repented to Him and she tells me she is born again. She has been reading a Bible I gave her some years ago. I notices since then she has been more receptive of hearing the things relating to the end times and tells me that she understands and is worried for her family so we have been meeting virtually at a set time each day in our separate homes for prayer in agreement for our family and their awakening to The Lord as their Savior too. My sister is asking me about being baptized in water too. So I believe she is saved!
    His timing is perfect, I have been praying for so many many years for her and my family and friends and acquaintances and sometimes tempted to despair of ever seeing a harvest but one verse always used to come to my mind and that was Song of Solomon 8:4
    “I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please.” (KJV) I knew that that The Lord would awaken them at the right time so the root will have gone deep into the soil and they will not fall away at the first sign of trouble. I know I am taking that verse a little out of context but that was how The Holy Spirit showed me to wait for the harvest to come at the right time and not give up on prayer and sharing the gospel.

    God bless you
    Maranatha!

  10. Thanks for your comment Myrtle Esther!

    Sometimes I may say too much, however I do it out of love and respect, and I pray that it comes across that way, I do it for encouragement and comfort. I’m glad to hear that it has helped you over the years as it has me just as much!

    I am also very glad to hear that your sister has accepted Christ! That is awesome. If she confesses it then I would believe it, no reason not to, especially if she is also asking to be baptized. Thank the Lord, praise God!

    God doesn’t always do things by our timing, nor in our ways.

    God bless sister! Maranatha! Gordon
