Living on Borrowed Time!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

We are all born into this world without knowing just how much time we have to live it out.  None of us are given a specific number of years, none of us are promised to live a long life, but all of us are living on borrowed time!

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away.

Job 1:20-22

Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked shall I return there.
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.”

Job was given much by the Lord, then it was all taken away, he lost it all, his children, his livestock, even his servants!  Yet Job continued to bless the name of the Lord, nor did he blame God for doing any wrong.

The point is my friends that God is the creator and giver of life, but the length of our life is by His hands.  None of us know what lies ahead of us, only God knows, and it is God who knows exactly how much time that He has given to us.  The time that we have to live is all given to us by God, it is His time to do as He wills, it is borrowed time!

Making the assumption that you will live a long and full life is very proud and egotistical at best!  Our life is not determined by who we are or what we do, but by the God of the Universe, Jesus Christ!  He is the one who holds all things together, He is the one that created all things, and He is the giver of life, He is the Life!

For some reason most teenagers seem to feel as though they are invincible, that they have some sort of immortality, when the truth is that anyone of them could vanish off the face of the earth in an instant!  None given a certain number of years, none promised anything more than life and death, unless of course you are a believer in Jesus Christ!

Believers in Jesus Christ are the only ones that have a chance of not physically dying by being raptured with the church.  But wait you might be thinking, what about Hebrews 9:27 (And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment)?  Doesn’t that contradict the rapture?  You have to look at Hebrews 9:27 and 9:28 in it’s entirety.

Hebrews 9:27-28

“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.”

I believe what the apostle Paul is telling us is that we are appointed to have only one life physically on this earth, that we will not be physically born twice, that once we die that’s it, no more chances to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  I do not believe that he means that no one ever will not see death, in fact Enoch nor Elijah ever saw death but were taken by God.  Jesus Christ was also born physically into this world once, He will never do it again, and when He comes again it is for our salvation, to complete our salvation.

My point to all of this is that our lives are short and none of us know how long they will be or just when they will end.  There is only one way to see the kingdom of God and that is by being born again!  This is a choice all of us have to make.

John 3:3

‘Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” ‘

Did Jesus actually mean that we have to be physically born again?!  No!  Absolutely not!  He was talking about being born of the Spirit, the Spirit of God!

John 34:5-7

Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ “

The only way to heaven, the only way to be born again is by repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior!  It’s the only way!

John 14:6

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Some will argue with me that we will not go to heaven, but where is the Father’s throne room but in heaven?  I’m not here to argue but to tell you the truth!

Become Born Again, Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!
