Commentary By: Gordon King
All of us will go through trials and tribulations in this life, none of us are exempt from it. However, it seems that there are some who go through much more of them in this life and for the believer this seems to be the case, at least for some of us.
Why is it that some believers in Jesus Christ seem overburdened with trials, tribulations, and hardships?
I know the answer to that question my friends because it happens to me! There are times when I feel very overwhelmed with battles in life, that they are non-stop and never ending one on top of another. Some times I just feel like giving in and giving up! These are lows, these are valleys which seem to go on forever, but even through the valleys there is light and God is with us! Amen.
The reason that some believers go through more of these things than others is because they are doing things which promote the kingdom of God! They are spreading the truth and uncovering the darkness, they are sharing God’s word in a world that is ruled by darkness, a world that is under the sway of the evil one!
Yes my friends, it is Satan and his minions that are coming against us, “for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12)”.
These evil forces come against those that stand for the Lord, they don’t like the things of God nor the children of God, and they especially don’t like it when the light uncovers the darkness and tells the truth!
When we as believers are attacked for doing the will of God then this should actually encourage us to continue on, it should embolden us to stand firm and courageous because we then know that we are on the right track and doing the right thing in standing for our Lord and Savior!
If we don’t suffer in this life for doing the right thing then how do we know that we are doing the right thing? If nothing comes against us then how do we know if we are living for the Lord? Of course there are exceptions, we do reap what we have sown, and we all have consequences for our actions, even many, many years later! However, if we have been performing God’s will, if we have been spreading the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world, then we should be getting attacked by the enemy!
Some of us will suffer more persecution than others that’s just the way that it is, and if Christ suffered then we will suffer also. I don’t have all of the answers as to why, nor do I complete understand why, but some of us will suffer horribly because we are children of God.
“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. “
God loves us and He will reward us for standing firm in our faith, for performing His will on earth, for uncovering the darkness and spreading the truth . We face battles with the enemy each and everyday, and if we shine God’s light into the world then we will have more of them. But, God is with us, God is victorious, and nothing or no one can stand against the God of this universe! And if God is victorious then so are we, for we have already won the war, we have already defeated Satan!
Evil spirits are attempting to take down their enemy (that’s us) by whatever means possible. They are unrelenting in their attacks and will do everything in their power to stop us from performing God’s will. But, God is in control, and God uses His children to perform His will on earth as it is in heaven. We are God’s voice on earth, we are His foot soldiers, and as such He is our supplier and our protector, and He will never leave us nor forsake us!
“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.“
We see more and more evil taking place in this world and its no coincidence either, it is the physical manifestation of evil spirits battling in another dimension. This evil is just that, evil! It is focused on doing things which are ungodly, unholy, and unrighteous, on doing things which go against the very nature of God! Just as Satan rebelled against God in heaven he is doing it here on earth against God’s children. Just as God works through His children (Christians) here on earth Satan works through his children here on earth also. That is why we see so much evil taking place on earth, why we see people coming against both Christians and Jews with increased frequency and intensity!
I’m going a little off course here but it’s all related, it’s all part of a spiritual war. All of this is focused around the city of Jerusalem in the nation of Israel! Why is it that the world is so focused on Jerusalem these days? Why is it so focused on the tiny, tiny nation of Israel?
2 Chronicles 6:6
“Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.”
Israel is God’s chosen nation, and Jerusalem is God’s chosen city, He put His name there. Jesus Christ was born in Israel, was crucified and resurrected in Jerusalem, and will return a second time to Jerusalem! Jesus Christ will rule and reign from Jerusalem my friends and Satan hates that!!!
“At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the Lord, and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem….“
You see, Satan is attempting to stop and thwart all of God’s plans, that’s what this warfare is all about, he still believes that he will be supreme over God Almighty! Satan and the world hate the things of God, they hate Israel and the Jews, they proclaim that the city of Jerusalem belongs not to the Jews but to the Palestinians (who never actually existed!), and they hate those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior!
My friends, when we see all of these things taking place, when we see the increase of these things taking place, when we see a dramatic upswing in evil and wickedness throughout the world then look up for your redemption draws nigh! The end is approaching quickly, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior is coming soon to take us home at the rapture of the church!!!
“Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.“
All of these things should cause all believers to sit up and take notice, it should make us more courageous, more bold, and more willing to stand firm in our faith and persevere to the end! The increase of attacks upon us as believers is a sign that we are doing the right thing and it should embolden us to continue on in spreading the light of God into the dark world.
Once the rapture of the church takes place the world will have no light until the two witnesses of Revelation appear and when the 144,000 Jewish believers are sealed by God. Until that time the world will be so dark, wicked, evil, and violent that people will not hear the truth at all. This is why it is so important to spread God’s word now, so that people may remember what we have told them to be the truth, they will need it in such a dark, dark place. There will be people being saved after the rapture of the church and during the Tribulation period, and perhaps even just one of them will come to accept Christ because you have shared the truth of the gospel with them now!
We often get so caught up in the cares of this world of this life, that we often forget what it’s really all about! This life is a short life, it’s a life that was given to us for a reason, and that reason was to live with and for God Almighty! It was about our decision to either accept Him or reject Him and rebel against Him as Satan has done. This decision is so vital that it will affect our eternal destiny.
So if and when you are feeling a bit overwhelmed by trials and tribulations in this life then remember that you are not alone! And if you have been performing God’s will in any way, shape or circumstance then it just may be that you are being attacked by the enemy! This my friends should encourage you to stand firm in your faith, to carry on with God’s will, to be courageous, to overcome, to persevere to the very end!
“Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.“
We have already won the war my friends through Jesus Christ! Our place is in heaven and we already have eternal life!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
