Why Even Care About the Jews or Israel? Because God does!!!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

The Jews are God’s chosen people and have been since Abram thousands of years ago.  God made a very special covenant with the Jews, covenants are promises and God never breaks a promise!  If God were to ever break even one of His promises then He would be a God that we could not trust.  Yet, there are people even Christians that believe that God is done with the Jews, that Christianity has taken the place of Judaism and the nation of Israel!  This my friends is not in the bible, and in my opinion is very dangerous and a form of antisemitism.

God has made everlasting covenants with the Jews that means forever!

Genesis 13:14-16

And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; 15 for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever. 16 And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered.

What is so difficult about understanding the word “forever”?!  Forever means forever not until you mess up!  Of course the Jews messed up, of course they turned their backs on God, no one is denying those facts, they are the truth, however, God has not turned His back on the Jews!

Jeremiah 31:31-34

“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

The Lord is surely not done with Israel, and there is verse after verse, chapter after chapter in scripture that tells us these things if we only read and see!

Where in the bible does it say that God is done with the Jews?  Where in the bible does it say that the church has replaced Israel?  Where?!  It doesn’t anywhere and that’s the point!  We can interpret scripture by our own private interpretation and not from the bible, yet we are told not to do this.

2 Peter 1:20-21

knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

We can interpret scripture by our own minds, we can change it to mean whatever we want, but by doing do we are taking away from the truth of God’s word and giving it a new meaning, our own and personal meaning!  We must allow scripture to interpret itself, we must understand the truth of God’s word, we must rightly divide the word of truth!

2 Timothy 2:15

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Some people believe that I focus too much attention on Israel and the Jews.  They don’t understand why I do it, they just don’t get it!  There are people who just don’t care, and then there are those who don’t really want to know the truth for some reason or another.  But if we are to be honest with ourselves then we need to know the truth for the truth will set us free.

First of all the entire bible (after the great flood of Noah, Genesis 7 and God’s promises to Abram Genesis 12) revolves around the Jews and the nation of Israel.  Of course it goes much deeper than that, it is a historic account of the fall of man and God’s redemptive plan for man to be reconciled back to God.  The Jews and the nation of Israel are the people God used to bring it all to fruition.

So why do I do it?  Because God does it, that’s why!  I don’t do it to push a Jewish agenda, or to promote the Jews as a perfect people, of course they aren’t, they are anything but and they have been chastized severely by God for it!  However, the bible is the truth of God, of His chosen people, of His redemptive plan of salvation through the Jews, of His people falling away, and of His people being reconciled back to Him!  It’s the history of God’s period of grace upon the world, all of the world, of all nations, peoples, and tongues.  It’s a historic account of how God can save us even after we have blatantly disobeyed and rebelled against Him!  It’s past history but also of history to come, and we must keep our eyes on the Jews and the nation of Israel in order to accurately know bible prophecy and just where we stand in God’s prophetic timeline!

Many people including many Christians push the Jews aside as God being done with them, but that’s not what God tells us.

Romans 11:1-2

I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew.

God is not done with the Jews, He has not cast them away!  What is so difficult to understand about this?!!!

Romans 11:7-8

What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded. Just as it is written:

“God has given them a spirit of stupor,
Eyes that they should not see
And ears that they should not hear,
To this very day.”

Salvation has come first to the Gentiles in order to provoke jealously to the Jews!

Romans 11:11

I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles.

Romans 11:26-27

And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:

“The Deliverer will come out of Zion,
And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;
27 For this is My covenant with them,
When I take away their sins.”

God is most definitely not done with Israel, it is written in scripture!  Approximately 2600 years ago the old testament prophet Jeremiah prophesied about Israel once again becoming a nation.

Jeremiah 30:1-3

The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, “Thus speaks the Lord God of Israel, saying: ‘Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you. For behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,’ says the Lord. ‘And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’ ”

How do I know that Jeremiah wasn’t speaking about the return of the Jews from Babylon?

Jeremiah 30:5-7

“For thus says the Lord:

“We have heard a voice of trembling,
Of fear, and not of peace.
Ask now, and see,
Whether a man is ever in labor with child?
So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins
Like a woman in labor,
And all faces turned pale?
Alas! For that day is great,
So that none is like it;
And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble,
But he shall be saved out of it.

The prophet Jeremiah is speaking about the latter days, the end times, the time just before the “time of Jacob’s trouble”.  The time of Jacob’s trouble is referring to the Tribulation period, a time for the Jews to become reconciled back to God Almighty, for he shall be saved out of it, the Jews!

Jeremiah 30:24

The fierce anger of the Lord will not return until He has done it,
And until He has performed the intents of His heart.

In the latter days you will consider it.

The prophet also tells us that God will deal harshly with those who come against the Jews.

Jeremiah 30:20

Their children also shall be as before,
And their congregation shall be established before Me;
And I will punish all who oppress them.

Jeremiah 30:16

‘Therefore all those who devour you shall be devoured;
And all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity;
Those who plunder you shall become plunder,
And all who prey upon you I will make a prey.

Does this sound like God is done with the Jews?

Jeremiah 30:22

‘You shall be My people,
And I will be your God.’

God is speaking about the end times, the last days.

There are other old testament prophets that also tell of God dealing severely with those who come against His chosen people the Jews!

Zechariah 12:3-9

And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it. In that day,” says the Lord, “I will strike every horse with confusion, and its rider with madness; I will open My eyes on the house of Judah, and will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, ‘The inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength in the Lord of hosts, their God.’ In that day I will make the governors of Judah like a firepan in the woodpile, and like a fiery torch in the sheaves; they shall devour all the surrounding peoples on the right hand and on the left, but Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place—Jerusalem.

“The Lord will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall not become greater than that of Judah. In that day the Lord will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; the one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the Lord before them. It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

And in the last days, at the end of the Tribulation period there will be a remnant of Jews who see the error of their ways, their eyes will be opened to the truth of who Jesus Christ is, their Messiah!

Zechariah 12:10

And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

The old testament prophet Ezekiel prophesied about the nations surrounding Israel coming against her and the fury of His wrath against them!

Ezekiel 38:18-23

“And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” says the Lord God, “that My fury will show in My face. 19 For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: ‘Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, 20 so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.’ 21 I will call for a sword against Gog throughout all My mountains,” says the Lord God. “Every man’s sword will be against his brother. 22 And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. 23 Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”

There are many, many other bible verses and prophecies regarding Israel and those who come against Israel, about the anger and wrath of God against those nations, kingdoms, and people.

The Lord God has made Zion His holy mountain, He has written His name on Jerusalem forever!

Joel 3:17

“So you shall know that I am the Lord your God,
Dwelling in Zion My holy mountain.
Then Jerusalem shall be holy,
And no aliens shall ever pass through her again.”

2 Chronicles 6:6

Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.

Jerusalem is God’s holy city, in the nation of Israel, the nation of the Jews, God’s chosen people, at the center of the world, at the center of bible prophecy!

You can ignore what God tells us is the truth, you can simply walk away from it, you can twist it to mean what it doesn’t mean, you can say that it isn’t the truth.  But just because you don’t believe it, just because you don’t like it, doesn’t make it not true.  If God said it then it is the truth!  And if you have a problem with it then I suggest that you take it up with God!  He said it I’m just sharing it.  If you don’t believe me in these things then I challenge you to read the entire bible from cover to cover, then to re-read it by taking your time to study it piece by piece, bit by bit.  And if you do these things with the mindset of learning the truth then just perhaps you will see what I see.  However, if you are not a believer in Jesus Christ then you may not be able to see the truth for your eyes are blinded to it.  Our minds and our thoughts can be tainted by the world, by what we see in it, hear in it, and read in it.  This is why it is so vitally important to know the word of God, to study His word, to be influenced by His word and not the world, if not then you will never truly know the truth.  The wisdom of man is foolishness in God’s eyes.

1 Corinthians 3:18-19

Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.

The world is full of darkness and it is becoming even darker as we get closer to the return of Jesus Christ.  One major sign of the end times is the increasing persecution of not only Christians but also the Jews.  And when you see these things begin to happen look up for your redemption draweth nigh!  The fact that I am even writing any of these things are a sign that the return of Jesus Christ is near, even at the door!

Genesis 12:3

“I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

God told us that whoever blesses Israel will be blessed and whoever curses Israel will be cursed!  Did God mean those words or not?  We are talking about the same God that we put our faith and trust in, do we believe Him and what He tells us or do we turn our backs on Him and His word?!  And if we don’t believe what He says through His people then why in the world do we trust Him in the first place?!!!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. Thanks for your comment Shofar/Liz!

Thank you very much my friend! At least there are still some believers who agree that God has not forsaken the Jews!

    God bless! Maranatha!

  2. wonderful post Gordon, we owe the Jewish people a great debt we have a bible thanks to the Jewish people,God bless you Gordon Maranatha!!.

  3. Thanks for your comment Annime5!

We have the bible, but we also have a Messiah! Amen. The Jews have been an example to the world for thousands of years, an example of God’s mercy and grace, an example of how God deals with His people, an example of who God is and of His promises to us. This is why God chose a specific group of people in the first place. For anyone to condemn the Jews would be like them condemning the ones who came to help save them for eternity, it just makes no sense whatsoever! And for a believer to condemn the Jews is condemning the One that gives them eternal life, for Jesus came from the Jews, He is the Lion from the tribe of Judah!

    God bless! Maranatha!
