Scoffing and Mocking of the End Times!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

The study of bible prophecy and eschatology (the study of the end times) is something which seems to be foreign to most of the church today.  Yet we are told that those who read, hear, and keep the things written in the book of Revelation are given a special blessing from God!

Revelation 1:3

Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.

So why is it that most churches, preachers, and Christians don’t study or preach it, and most don’t even talk about it?  And not only do those of the world scoff and mock Christians who talk about the end times and bible prophecy, but many Christians do as well!  Why is that?!

2 Peter 3:3-4

knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”

The bible tells us that scoffers will come in the last days, and this is exactly what we see happening today, even within the church!

We are told in scripture that there will be apostasy in the end times, meaning that many in the church will fall away from the truth!  I believe that this is a major sign of the times, a sign which warns us of the soon return of Jesus Christ back to earth!

1 Timothy 4:1

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons

Most people, even a large segment of the church don’t want to hear about what is coming upon the earth, instead they want to hear what is pleasing to their itching ears!

2 Timothy 4:3-4

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

It’s very sad my friends but it was prophesied to happen!  I can understand the secular world scoffing and mocking Christians who believe in the entire word of God, but it astounds me to hear other believers do it as well!  And if it wasn’t written in scripture that it would happen then I would be completely dumbfounded!!!

As believers in Jesus Christ we are to study His word the bible.  We are even told in the bible that all scripture is given by inspiration of God.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

It is given for us to know the truth, to teach the truth, to understand the truth, and to live the truth!  It is all true, not allegorical as some claim, not stories and fables as some claim, but the living truth!  What was told in the bible that happened in the past actually happened in the past, and what we are told will happen in the future will actually happen in the future!  Jesus Christ Himself taught from scripture, He quoted scripture, and He fulfilled scripture!  Jesus is the Word of God, the living Word of God Almighty!

There are those in the church that condemn believers who speak about and believe in the rapture of the church.  They say it is not written in the bible, that it is something new, made up by man.  However, it is written in scripture, and if you take the original text written in Greek then you will see that the word rapture actually is in the bible!  Of course it’s not written in English, but it was in Greek!  This was written almost two thousand years ago by the apostle Paul.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 4:17 tells us in English that those who are alive and remain shall be “caught up”, this is the English translation for the Greek word used in the bible harpagēsometha, which means shall be caught up.  This Greek word translated into Latin is rapiemur, which is translated into English as the word “rapture”!  Amazing!!!  The word “rapture” is actually written in the bible, just not in English!

If what is spoken of in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 is not the rapture of the church then what is it?!  It’s definitely not the second coming of Christ, it cannot be for many reasons, just as I believe that the rapture will also be pre-tribulation for many reasons.  And if you look around you will see that Christians who believe in a pre-tribulation rapture of the church are condemned much more than those believing in mid, post, or no rapture.  Why is that?  Is it because it’s a false doctrine?  Or is it because it’s the truth?!

I cannot for the life of me understand Christians who do not believe that what is written in scripture will actually happen.  Many believe that most of it is allegorical, many others believe that it is merely spiritual in meaning, others believe that it’s only written as a guide for righteous living but won’t actually happen, and others just don’t want to hear about it or even know about it!  These are Christians my friends, I’m not speaking about secular people, but about believers in Jesus Christ!

I make no apologies for believing that the entire bible is the truth, that it actually happened as stated and that it will actually happen as stated!  I make no apologies for studying bible prophecy, for trying to understand it in relation to the times that we are now living in, none whatsoever!

We are told by Christ Himself to study bible prophecy, to be ready at all times, and to be watching.  If we are to do these things how can we if we ignore them and denigrate them?!  How can we be obedient to the Lord if we ignore what He tells us to do?

Revelation 19:10 tells us this:For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy“.  Jesus Christ is prophecy, the gospel is prophecy, what has happened in the past and what is coming in the future is prophecy!  If we ignore bible prophecy then we are ignoring the spirit of prophecy, we are ignoring Christ and His testimony!  By the same token, if we scoff and mock bible prophecy then we are in fact doing it to Christ, the very One who saved us and gave us eternal life!

All of us as believers must be very careful about what we say, what we do, and what we don’t do as well!  Much of the church is opposed to bible prophecy for some reason or another, much of the church refuses to teach bible prophecy, to teach about the Antichrist, to teach about the Mark of the Beast, the abomination of desolation, the coming One World Government!  Much if not most of the church refuses to teach about bible prophecy and relate it to what is now happening all around us in the world today.  And an even sadder thing than that are the many pastors and teachers who are scoffing and mocking those of us who do study bible prophecy!!!

The thing about the truth is that there will be very few who will believe it.  There are few who will find the straight and narrow path which leads to righteousness, and many will even fall away from the path.  Just because a majority of people believe something does not make it true.  The righteous shall be persecuted for their faith, they shall be hated for the truth!

We can choose to not believe, we can choose to be ignorant, and we can choose to be led astray.  But whatever we choose we are sowing seeds and shall pay the consequences of our actions or failure to act.

I truly believe that there are many Christians who want to hear about bible prophecy from their church but never do!  I believe that there is a hunger and thirst to know more about what is happening in the world today in relation to what the bible says will happen in the end times.  It’s a very sad thing when a believer cannot be fed the entire truth of scripture from their pastors at church, and an even sadder thing when they are scoffed at by other believers and even their pastors for talking about it!

Jesus said when you see these things beginning to take place then look up for your redemption draws near!  But I guess if you don’t study bible prophecy or hear it from your pastor then you wouldn’t know that!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. It is true we who are Bible believing Christians are in the minority in these days and hated by all.
Everyone around me seem to be having such prosperous, jolly happy lives without a care for God in their well ordered lives except perhaps for, just a token nod to Him, say at Christmas ,Easter or Christenings and Weddings and they all seem so ultra nice too ,they have no perceived need of The Gospel Message and think I am crazy because I do not fit their box for what a Christian should be like.

  2. Last week I saw an article that said only 20% of pastors are preaching the end times. Yes, there are increasing sign of scoffing and mocking. Even Christians are mocking and scoffing at the Christians whom they believe the end times and prophecy.

I haven’t seen my Christian friends since Christmas 2017. I knew it was because of my belief. They can’t handle the truth. Oh well. It’s their problems, not mine.

Another day I was talking with my Christian friend and I mentioned about coming 3rd temple and peace plan under of Trump administration, she doesn’t know that, I’m like, WTH?!!!

  3. Thanks for your comment Christine!

I know what you mean sister, I see it around me as well, or at least the lack of need or desire for God. They seem to have all of the right answers without God in their lives, and instead of turning to God in good times or bad they instead turn to the world or themselves! They lack the sense of God’s presence and holiness, they lack the wisdom and understanding of what is coming upon the world, and they seem to lack the knowledge of Satan and demons in the world, at least that’s the way I see it! They seem to be ignorant of most of scripture.

I never thought that I fit the mold for what a Christian should be like, at least not what the majority of Christians are like. I’m not perfect, I have problems, I don’t live a holly jolly life, I know that I am not better than the next guy, at times I sin, but even so I am a saved child of God Almighty! I know that God loves me even if I don’t deserve it and I don’t! I know that I cannot do it on my own, I know from experience that I need God in my life, to direct my life in both bad times and the good! I can see my blessings from God and I thank Him everyday for all of them! I also know that as a Christian I should be studying the entire word of God, not just parts of it, not omitting any of it. I am told by God to be watching, to be ready, and the only way to do this is by studying bible prophecy! But I also know that if I do righteous things for the Lord then I will suffer persecution for it, both from the world and from demonic spiritual attacks. But it’s like you have quoted many times before, He is our shelter, our refuge in times of trouble! Amen.

    God bless sister! Maranatha!

  4. It is so nice to find a like-minded person! I believe the signs are all around us in everything – the increasing number of earthquakes, the mass die offs of animals, the crazy weather, the swarming of insects, families falling apart, the exponential increase in the number of LGBT marriages, and even the “Peace Plan.” We seem to be going thru a filtering process to determine who will actually follow the scripture as written. Personally when I look at the news I think G-d must have tremendous patience! How much can He tolerate?! I can barely turn on any news channel without seeing story after story of people turning their backs on G-d. Thank you for respecting and upholding the truth!

  5. Thanks for your comment Jim!

I would like to have read that article, it would give more credence to what I have written and stated in this post. I have heard the names of several well known pastors that scoff and mock Christians who study end time bible prophecy, yet I cannot remember all of their names, however I do remember one, Hank Hanegraaff (The Bible Answer Man), who scoffs and mocks believers who believe in the rapture of the church and especially the pre-tribulation rapture, among other important biblical teachings. As believers we must be very careful who we listen to for biblical explanations and always, always compare it to the word of God least we ourselves be deceived!

    God bless! Maranatha!

  6. Thanks for your comment the2chairs!

It’s always a blessing to find other believers who are in tune with the Holy Spirit and with what is happening in the world in relation to bible prophecy!

I write about these things all the time, such as this post: Increased Signs of the Times! Look up!, or this one: Signs of the Times? Stop and Wonder Why! I’ve written over 1,200 posts since I first started this blog in October of 2012, and it’s interesting to look back at them from years gone by and then see where we are in the world today, to see how the world is falling even deeper into darkness, and how bible prophecy is in fact coming to pass right before our very eyes!

The Lord is patient because His will is for no one to perish but for all to come to repentance and salvation. But there will come a time when He says enough is enough, and I believe that time is coming very soon! But it’s like the apostle Peter said in 2 Peter 3 that the Lord is not slack concerning His promise, for one day is as a thousand years to the Lord and a thousand years is as one day.

    God bless! Maranatha!
