Commentary By: Gordon King
Life, it comes and it goes, as if we come from nothing and return to nothing! At least that’s what the world will tell you.
The world says that we came from nothing but a puddle of slime, that everything just evolved from nothing. They tell us that there really is no meaning to life but what a person gives it. They say that life is different for everyone, it’s all according to what you believe, and to some extent that is true. They say that there are no absolute morals or values, that it all just depends on how you feel and what you want to believe. They tell us that God is just a fairy tale, a man-made fictitious being that was created in order to instill order into society, to make people conform to a specific set of principles and values, but I say just the opposite is true!
Genesis 1:26-27
“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.“
Man did not create God, God created man! God created man in His image, that means that man was created in His likeness, with many of the attributes of God, I’m talking about love, kindness, gentleness, self-control, of being creative, of desiring good, etc. Before the fall of Adam and Eve, man was much more like God then we are now, they were not tainted with sin. Their hearts were loving and kind, and although there were only two of them they were able to show mercy, grace, and forgiveness without giving it a second thought. But after the fall men’s hearts became wicked and evil, it became increasingly more difficult to be loving and kind, to have mercy, grace, and forgiveness the way that God intended for us to be, and it continues on a downward slide just as it did in the days of Noah!
God created us to conform to His standards, to His principles, to His ways. But He also created us with a free will, and in doing so we had the opportunity to turn from Him and we still do! We were created by God because He wanted to live with us and to love us, but He also wants us to live with Him and to love Him back. If God did not give us a free will to make our own choices then we would be nothing more than robots! God didn’t want us to be robots, but to be able to make our own choice to commune with Him and to love Him, otherwise what would be the purpose?!
God created us to be His family, to be His children! Ask yourself why we as humans desire to have children? Well, God wants children for the same reasons! We inherently want children because God wants children, we were created in His image, with many of His attributes.
John 1:12-13
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.“
Life is not about nothing, there is a reason for our being, we are not called human beings because of nothing at all but because there is a reason for our existence. This life is about our choice, the choice we all have to make, the choice to spend eternity with God or not.
Hebrews 9:27
“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,“
God created man from the dust of the earth, and once we die our bodies return to dust. But we are much more than just physical bodies, we are also soul and spirit, and once we die our soul and spirit do not return to the dust of the earth but to either Heaven or Hades.
Ecclesiastes 12:7
“Then the dust will return to the earth as it was,
And the spirit will return to God who gave it.“
The saved in Christ go to heaven to be with the Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:8
“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.“
The unsaved go to a place called Hades, a waiting place before the judgment, then to a place called hell, eternal separation from God, eternal punishment, weeping and gnashing of teeth!
Luke 16:22-23
“So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.“
Matthew 25:41
“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels“
Matthew 25:46
“And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.“
Our soul and spirit are eternal, they will last forever, the body is temporal, it will return to dust. However, for the saved person God will give him or her a new body, an immortal body like Christ’s body!
Philippians 3:20-21
“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.“
Unbelievers don’t want to believe in God, they refuse to believe that He exists or they just refuse to accept Him as their Savior. Either way their eternal destiny remains the same, eternal separation from God and eternal punishment, that means forever! They don’t want God now and they won’t have Him then.
So what’s it really all about? It’s about our relationship with God Almighty, the Creator of the universe, the One who created it all and holds it all together! We either believe and accept Him as our Lord and Savior or we reject Him, there is no in-between. Jesus Christ came into this world as both man and God, not to condemn the world but to save it! All people have the opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, He came so that all may be saved!
Our lives are short, we don’t have much time, on the other hand eternity is forever! Where will you spend it?
Accept Jesus Christ now as your Lord and Savior!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
