Commentary By: Gordon King
The intensity and growing rise of evil, wickedness and turmoil in the world is on the rise my friends! And if you cannot see it happening then I would ask you what world are you living in?
We are being inundated with immoral acts, thoughts, and actions. Members of our own government are seeking to impose laws which are immoral and ungodly. The media is very subtly changing our thoughts and our minds by imposing immorality through commercials, movies, and television shows. They are attempting to brain wash us, to slowly but surely desensitize us to what God calls evil, wickedness and abominations!
At times I feel frozen in time, I feel paralyzed to what is happening, as if there is just so much wickedness around me that I cannot even move! It is overwhelming to the mind, to the senses, to the soul. It not only affects the mind but also the body, it drains us of energy, it sucks the life right out of us!
If I wasn’t born again then none of this would probably bother me in the least, but I am, and it does bother me a great deal! I see it happening and I feel as though I can’t do a thing about it, it’s not slowing down a bit but ramping up rather quickly.
I not only see it in the world but also in the church! Many churches teach that there is more than one way to heaven, that Jesus Christ is not the only way, that we can choose to live anyway that we want even after we are born again! This is not what Christ teaches us, nor is it what the apostles told us in scripture.
1 Timothy 4:1
“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.“
Am I the only one that feels so overwhelmed by what is happening in the world today?! Are any other believers in Jesus Christ feeling the pressures of the world around them? I presume that I am not the only one, that many others feel it, that they also feel overwhelmed.
The evil, the wickedness, the abominations that are in the world are not static, they are very dynamic and growing each day, day by day they increase in intensity and frequency! Scripture tells us that these things will be, that they will increase the closer we get to Christ’s return. The increasing evil sure doesn’t make me feel any better, but what does make me feel much better is knowing that Christ’s return for us is even that much closer! But it’s the not knowing just how much closer that at times leads me to feel the pressures of the world.
As believers in Jesus Christ we have Christ to stand upon, He is our rock! And if we build our foundation upon the Rock then we will withstand the storms.
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.“
It is the Word of God that sees us through the storms, through the evil and wickedness, it is God that walks with us, it is He who helps us in our times of need, in our desperation, through tribulations in life.
Often in scripture we are told to stand firm in our faith, to persevere to the end, and I now really understand much more of what Jesus and the apostles were telling us!
“But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.“
“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love.“
“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. 14 Let all that you do be done with love.“
2 Timothy 3:13-15
“But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.“
The Holy Bible is our guide-book for living this life, it is our instruction manual for how to overcome what the world throws our way, for evading the fiery darts of the enemy!
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.“
We are not fighting against flesh and blood my friends, but against evil spirits! And when we are strong in the Lord and the power of His might then we can withstand the fiery darts of the enemy!
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.“
Our tribulations bring forth patience, and patience experience, and experience hope! It is through tribulations that we meet with God, that we learn and know more about God, about who He is, about His ways. It is not us who come to God but God who comes to us! It is God who gives us faith, it is God who gives us hope, it is God who saves us from our sins.
The world is coming at us at full steam, it is unrelenting, unleashing evil, hatred, and wickedness upon us. But we must remember who we are really dealing with here, it is not against people but against the evil spirits leading and guiding those people! Once we know who we are up against then it is much easier to deal with them, and this is why it is so vitally important to stand firm upon the Rock of our salvation, Jesus Christ! This is why it is so important to persevere to the end, to stand firm in our faith during hard and difficult times. Our weapons against the enemy are not knives and guns, but the word of God! Our weapons are not of this world for we are not fighting against flesh and blood, our weapons are our prayers, they are heavenly! Our weapons are the word of God, our prayers, our knowledge of God’s word, our putting on the whole armor of God! Our weapons are knowing God’s word, of believing and obeying the word of God, of obeying God Himself, of loving Him, trusting Him, of worshiping Him, of thanking Him. And most importantly of all our weapon is our salvation through Jesus Christ! Our weapons are not of ourselves or of our own doing but all come from God Almighty!
Take heart my friends, do not despair, for the Lord your God is at your side! He is your comforter and your shield, a mighty fortress, your stronghold!
“I will love You, O Lord, my strength. 2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.“
While we are still here living in this world we will endure tribulations, we will be surrounding by those living in the world, we will be tempted, and we will be attacked by evil spirits. But take heart my friends, we are not of this world, and our King is not of this world either! Ours is of a heavenly realm, a place where God dwells. And one day soon we shall be with the Lord forever, in heaven, ruling and reigning with Christ on earth for a thousand years, and then one day in a new heaven and on a new earth! The ways of this world will not last forever, they are temporary, but the ways of God are eternal, they shall last forever!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
