Commentary By: Gordon King
As Christians we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Immanuel, on the 25th of December. There are those who don’t believe that we should be celebrating the birth of our Savior in December, they claim that Jesus wasn’t born in December. But what difference does it make my friends? None of us know the month or the day of Christ’s birth on earth, should that stop us from celebrating His birth into this world?!
This is the day that was chosen, and this is the day that we celebrate. We shouldn’t be bickering over such trivial things, for none of these things have any bearing on our salvation, or for that matter whether or not God is pleased with us! What does matter is recognizing that God loves us so much that He sent His only begotten Son into this world, both fully man and fully God! That He sent Him so that we might be saved and have eternal life with Him forever! This is what’s important! This is what makes the difference between life and death!
And than there are those who claim that Christmas is a Pagan holiday, that as Christians we shouldn’t be celebrating Christmas! That it is really a ploy of the world for us to celebrate the things of this world, to not celebrate the birth of Christ but to celebrate the Winter Solstice! The world will do everything that it can to separate us from Christ, to delude us into believing that Christ is not God, that we are nothing more than animals which have evolved from slime, that it is not Christ who we should be celebrating but creation itself!
My friends, brothers and sisters in Christ, we must know who we are in Christ, we must know that the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was born into this world in order to save us of our sins, that this should be the most cherished event ever in the history of mankind other than His death, burial, and resurrection from the tomb!
There is nothing wrong for a believer in Jesus Christ to be celebrating Christmas, as long as we are doing for the right reasons, as long as we are doing it from our heart. In fact, we should be celebrating Christmas, we should be celebrating the birth of Jesus!
It all goes wrong when the world celebrates Christmas for the sake of celebration alone, when the world takes Christ out of Christmas! Christmas without Christ is like a car without a motor, it just doesn’t work! And oddly enough the world celebrates Christ’s birthday while acknowledging that Christ is not God, that God is not real, and that Jesus Christ was merely a man!
Why in the world would unbelievers even want to celebrate Christmas?! It really doesn’t make any sense at all. They don’t really know what they are doing, they are blind to the fact that Christmas is all about Christ, that it is about our eternal salvation through Christ, that it points to God wanting a relationship with us! They cannot see that the birth of Jesus Christ points to Easter, they are both inseparable, and Christmas without Easter makes Christianity merely a religion! If Christ was not God, if He was not born of a virgin, if He did not die for our sins, if He was not resurrected from the dead, then Christianity is merely a religion and Jesus Christ cannot save us!
The world will celebrate almost anything without even thinking about it, they will turn anything into a celebration! Yet, they deny God, they deny the power of God, they deny that Jesus Christ is God, that He is the only one who can save us from our sins, the only way to heaven, the only way to have eternal life with God forever!
People celebrate Christ’s birth without knowing God, they celebrate the day that God appointed for man to be reconciled back to God! They do it without even thinking about it, just as they rebel against God without considering the eternal consequences of their actions!
God came into this world so that He could cover us with His righteousness, so that He could forgive us of our sins, in order for us to live with Him. Being in the presence of an all-powerful, all-mighty, holy and righteous God requires perfection, and the only way to obtain that perfection is through Christ! Evil, sin, rebellion, wickedness, unholiness, unrighteousness, uncleanliness, none of it can be in the presence of God, and it is that reason that we must be cleansed by the blood of Christ, so that we can be found perfect in the eyes of a holy God!
In heaven there is no sin, there is no evil or wickedness, only perfection! And one day the good Lord will complete His good work in us, perfecting us in the likeness of His Son, Jesus Christ, this is our glorification! When we see Him as He is we will be made like Him, in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye!
Once we are perfected in Christ we will be with the Lord forever! We will stand in His presence, we will see His face! God has created for us unimaginable things, real things, much more real than what we have here on earth! Things which have not been corrupted by sin, things which have not been touched by the world. We will enjoy all that God has created while being in His presence, and this is what it’s all about, being with God, enjoying God and His creations, enjoying them with Him forever! We will learn more about God and His ways, we will love God with all of our heart, and God will pour out His love upon us with great intensity, much more than we have ever experienced here on earth and it will last forever! We will always be in the glory of God!
If you ask me that is much more than enough to be celebrating! The birth of Christ on earth is enough for me to be celebrating, but there is just so much more, so much that we don’t even know about yet! Christmas is about the birth of God on earth as our Savior, it’s about His sacrifice for us so that we would be reunited with Him, so that we could live with Him and be in His presence forever, because that’s how much He loves us! It’s not because we loved Him first, but because He first loved us!
If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, if you have been born-again, do not neglect our salvation, do not neglect to celebrate the birth of our Lord into this world in order for us to have eternal life with Him! He gave His life so that we may have life!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
