Knowing God is a relationship with God!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

God is infinite, infinite in power, in love, in all of His ways, the depths of His knowledge is unfathomable!

When I was a new believer I thought that I knew pretty much all there was to know about God.  How naive is that?!  As I grew closer to God and gained new wisdom and understanding about God and His ways then I knew that there was more to learn about God, but not that much more.  Still naive!

However, as I gained even more and more knowledge of God, as I grew to know God more, to love God more, to have a closer relationship with God, then I found out that there is so much more to know about God that I could ever understand, not only in this lifetime but throughout eternity!

This is true with life in general, as very young children we are very naive, when we become teenagers we think that we know it all, this continues on for the most part into young adulthood, when we think that we know everything!  How many of us have witnessed that with our children?  However, as we become more mature then we can see that we have much more to learn, this continues on into adulthood as we age, and this is the same as being born again, the more mature we become in Christ the more we know that we have to learn about Christ.

The bible is a guide-book for believers, it is God’s word to us in order for us to know many things about Him, but also to know why we are here, what we are supposed to be doing, how to live and how not to live.  But, it is also the essence of God Himself, it shows us just who God is.  With that being said, it could never completely tell us everything there is to know about God.

The truth of the matter is that the more knowledge that I learn about God, the closer that my relationship with God gets, the more that I become aware that I have so much more to learn about God.  As we grow in the Lord then we become more aware of just how magnificent God really is, at how the depths of God are immeasurable, at how infinite He is.

As humans we could never know just how great God really is, not until we have been perfected in Christ.  Our minds are very limited at this time, we can only know so much, or it would be too overwhelming for us.  An example of this would be knowing what lies ahead of us in this life.  If we knew everything then we wouldn’t be able to handle it!  We have enough problems in life to have to deal with things that haven’t even happened yet, let alone what we may currently be dealing with.  How many people struggle daily with perhaps just one problem in life?  Far too many I presume.  If they were burdened with one more, two more, or an unlimited number of events coming their way how would they then be able to handle them as well?!  They wouldn’t be able to.

My point is that if we knew everything about God that there is to be known then we wouldn’t be able to handle it.  For one thing I don’t believe that we will ever know everything that there is to know about God, even when we get to heaven, and we will have all of eternity to learn more about Him.  He gives us just enough to know about Him, and one reason is so that we will continue to search Him out, to build our relationship with Him, to get closer to Him.  If we thought that we knew all there was to know about God (as I did as a new believer, a babe in Christ) then just how many of us would continue to search Him out?

We are to continually search God out, to learn more about Him and His ways, this is a continual process even throughout eternity.  As we grow in our knowledge of the Lord then we will also grow in our relationship with the Lord.  This is how it is meant to be, and this is also how are relationships here on earth were meant to be as well!  This can be a very difficult task for many people, myself included.  Many of us have not done well with our relationships, I have failed many times at my relationships with people, and I have also failed many times with God!  But it is an ongoing process, a process in which we must be willing to put in time and effort, an effort at trying to know God better.  And if we are truly born again then God will correct us in our errors, He will chasten us and bring us back in the right direction, its not always easy for us nor is it always a pleasant experience.

The depths of the knowledge of God are infinite!  Understanding all of God and all of His ways are unobtainable, yet something that we should all be striving for.  It is not knowing all about God that matters, it’s learning more about God that does!  For when we learn more about God then our relationship with God grows and flourishes.

Our sanctification includes knowing more about God and growing in the Lord!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. Good article brother. I truly believe in God and it’s important to having a good relationship with God/Jesus Christ. Without God, I’m nothing.

Reading the Bible is like having a relationship with the Lord. It various of people how they read their Bible. To me, I want to understand the Lord, to understand of the timeline from Old to New Testament, and it does help me to grow up and more mature and somewhat wisdom. It is not easy to be a Christian. And of course I like to studying the end times and prophecy.

Let me ask you this question, when we are rapture, what are we doing for 7 years in the Heaven? It possible we will learning about God , the rules, and etc. I don’t know. We will coming back with Jesus as 2nd coming as the Christ’s Armies and we will be witnesses Jesus will beat Satan. We will having a new Earth and Heaven. I can’t imagine it. No more tears, death, pain, etc. Awesome.

To answer your question, I’m not exactly sure. But I do believe that we will be getting ready for the Marriage of the Lamb to the church, that we will be Wed to Christ during that time, and I also believe we will have the Marriage Supper at that time also, that’s a lot going on. We could also go before Christ at His Bema Seat judgment, I’m not sure when this will occur, will it be in stages or all at once? If all at once then we must wait until the end of the Millennial period when Christ rules the world for one thousand years.

And I presume that we will also use that time to just soak it all in! To enjoy our new home, to fellowship with each other, after all, there will be thousands upon thousands of other believers to meet, and many things to catch up on. Could you imagine speaking to Abraham about what it was like when he heard from God for the first time, or asking Moses what it was like going before Pharaoh and demanding that he free the slaves, or talking with the apostles and asking them what it was like to be walking with Jesus during His ministry here on earth?!

Seven years will be a very short time for all of the things that we will be doing in heaven. And perhaps Christ will give us some time to prepare for His second coming, we will be riding with Him on white horses! I also believe that Jesus will give to each of us certain positions, things that we will do and be in charge of, perhaps we will have some time to use those gifts.

I believe that God will give us all of eternity to learn more about who He is, His ways, His thoughts, it will be a never-ending experience!

      God bless Jim! Maranatha!
