Surrounded by Darkness in the World!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

In a world where just about anything goes people are basically good.  The intentions of their hearts are good not evil.  They can choose any path which will ultimately lead them to heaven.  There are no absolute morals or values, it all depends upon what you believe is right and wrong.  They can save themselves by their own actions, by doing good deeds.  And as the world grows ever darker if they just stick together and work through it then they will come out smelling like roses!  I don’t believe any of these things to be the truth, this is what the world believes, this is what demonic spirits are telling them is the truth.

The bible tells us that people’s hearts are evil and wicked.

Jeremiah 17:9

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

The bible also tells us that there is but one way to heaven.

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” ‘

God tells us over and over again in scripture that there are absolute morals and values.

Exodus 20:1-17

And God spoke all these words, saying:

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

“You shall have no other gods before Me.

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

13 “You shall not murder.

14 “You shall not commit adultery.

15 “You shall not steal.

16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

The bible tells us that our “good works” will not save us.

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

The bible says that those of the world will be condemned.

John 3:18-19

He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Those not found in the Book of Life will stand at the Great White Throne Judgment and be judged according to their works as they have chosen.

Revelation 20:11-15

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

The point is that we must be saved in order to be found worthy to enter the kingdom of heaven!  The only way to be saved is to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  Our works will not save us no matter how good we think they are, no matter how good we think that we are.  If we are not saved then our names are not written in the Book of Life, then our good deed will fail us, then we will be cast into the lake of fire!  Satan will try to convince us otherwise, that our good works will save us, this is a great deception in the world today.

The world is inundated with cultural norms and values which tell us that there are many ways to heaven.  That if we are good then we will get there.  That we can worship nature itself and be saved, that creation not the Creator is to be worshiped, that if we label ourselves as “spiritual” then we are on the right path.  The only thing is there are both good and evil spirits, which ones are we following?!

We must be born again to enter the kingdom of heaven.  What in the world does this mean?  It means that because of the fall of man our spirits are dead.  They are dead to God and the things of God.  At one time (before the fall of Adam and Eve) our spirits were alive.  They walked and talked with God, they were alive with the Spirit of God, but that all changed once they sinned against God, their spirits died!  They no longer had the ability to commune with God as they once did, they took upon themselves and all of their offspring the penalties of sin.  These penalties include the death of the spirit, the death of the flesh, and the inability to commune with God.  But most importantly it decided our eternal fate, punishment in hell forever!  All people are born into sin, they are born with a sin nature, no one is exempt from this.  All of us must be born again of the spirit in order to be saved, in order to go to heaven, in order to escape eternal punishment in hell!

All of us have within us choices to make, if not then we would all be mere robots!  We have the ability to choose between life and death, the ability to choose God’s ways or Satan’s ways.  Even believers in Jesus Christ can sin, and we all do.  If we say that we don’t they we are liars and make God out to be a liar as well!

1 John 1:8-10

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

Every single person, saved or not saved sins!  This is a fact.  Even the most faithful believer sins, do not be deceived and do not make God a liar.  None of us have yet been perfected in Christ, no not one!  But, if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

There are many forms and types of deceptions in the world today.  The world is a very dark place and getting darker by the day.  It’s very easy to be overwhelmed by the world, to be overtaken by deceptive doctrines, by heresies, by wickedness.  It’s all around us each and everyday.  And when we are smack dab in the middle of it all it can have a detrimental effect on us physically, mentally, and spiritually!

We do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against evil spirits and powers in high places.  In order to fight off these evil spirits we must put on the full armor of God each and every day!

Ephesians 6:10-20

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

We must dress ourselves in the attire of God in order to withstand the wiles of the devil, if not then we could be overcome by him.

Our God is a good God, He is faithful and just, and He protects those who seek His face.  Do not be deceived by the world whose ruler is the wicked one, but rather seek God and the things of God!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!
