The Act of Omission is also a Sin!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

If we take part in evil in the world then we are doing wrong in the eyes of the Lord, if we do what is unrighteous and unholy then we are out of God’s will and are actually in rebellion to Him!  But, what if we see evil happening around us and we don’t participate, in fact we don’t do anything at all, is that still evil?

We convict ourselves when we perform evil acts, however, we also convict ourselves when we do nothing at all by the act of omission!  Performing evil deeds is bad and ungodly, but so is the act of doing nothing, it is the act of omission that leads us astray, that convicts us of evil, that is itself a sin.  When we neglect to act it can be thought of as dereliction of duty, the failure to perform what we should be doing in the face of evil itself!  As Christians we should do something against evil in the world, whether that means just speaking up or helping out in some way, it definitely means praying against it, but it also means taking some sort of action, doing something to evoke a change towards righteousness.

Our faith is dead if not followed up with action.  We can say that we have faith, but if we don’t act it out in our lives then what good is it?  We can tell a hungry man to go and be filled, but if we don’t give him food then what have we really done?!

We can say that we love God, that we support Him and follow His will, but if we fail to support what He supports then what good is our faith?  God loves Israel and the Jews, He tells us to support them, but if we fail to support them then it’s the same as not supporting them!

We can’t change people, we can’t change their hearts or their minds, but we can tell them what we believe, what is right and what is wrong.  Sometimes this is all we can do, sometimes this is all we need to do.

If we see antisemitism in the world and participate in it then we are by definition antisemitic, but if we see it and do nothing then isn’t it the same as being antisemitic by the act of omission?!

The Lord has told the world that He will judge those that come against His people, His nation, and His city.  This must be very important to God for Him to tell us this!

Joel 3:1-3

For behold, in those days and at that time,
When I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem,
I will also gather all nations,
And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat;
And I will enter into judgment with them there
On account of My people, My heritage Israel,
Whom they have scattered among the nations;
They have also divided up My land.
They have cast lots for My people,
Have given a boy as payment for a harlot,
And sold a girl for wine, that they may drink.

This is a very telling and significant piece of scripture, one that must not be taken lightly nor ignored!  How are the nations treating God’s nation, people, and city?  How are you treating them?

Bible prophecy is coming to pass right before our very eyes!  We are living in biblical times, in prophetic times, in times like no other!  Do not hide your head in the sand, do not be sleeping, awake!  For the time is near when the good Lord will judge those who are in opposition to His people!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!
