Commentary By: Gordon King
How can we neglect so great a salvation?! If we fail to accept the gospel of Jesus Christ then we are doomed for eternal death. This is the greatest thing in life that we could do, accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior. Without it we have no hope, with it we have the blessed hope, the coming of our King to take us home! This is what the bible tells us is the truth, do we believe it?
If we believe these things then do we believe the other promises of God? Do we believe all of scripture or only parts of it? As believers in Jesus Christ I am telling you now that we should believe the whole thing! All of God’s word is the truth.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.“
So, if we believe all of God’s word to be the truth, then we must also believe in all of the promises of God whether we like them or not!
God chose Abram to be the father of a great nation, of God’s nation, chosen to be the leader of a chosen race the Jews, a chosen people, in a chosen country Israel, with a chosen city as its capital, Jerusalem.
“Now the Lord had said to Abram:
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
2 I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.“
Jerusalem, the city where God Himself wrote His name, the city where He chose to dwell!
2 Chronicles 6:1-2
‘ “The Lord said He would dwell in the dark cloud. 2 I have surely built You an exalted house, And a place for You to dwell in forever.” ‘
2 Chronicles 6:6
“Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.“
Israel is God’s country, the Jews are God’s chosen people, and Jerusalem is God’s chosen city! If all of these things are important to God then they should also be important to us as followers of God!
We are told in scripture to bless Israel, to pray for Jerusalem, to help His people!
“I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.“
God made a promise, a promise which had no time limit, a promise which He honors even to this very day. Bless Israel and you will be blessed, curse Israel and you will be cursed! Many people, even believers in Jesus Christ do not believe this, yet it is God’s word! He is speaking to everyone on earth, every person, every tribe, every nation.
Some people say that God was only referring to blessing or cursing Abram, but I wholeheartedly disagree, He was speaking about Abram and his offspring, about his nation, about his people. This promise not only holds true for during the time of Abram but for all time!
God says that He will judge all nations.
“For behold, in those days and at that time,
When I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will also gather all nations,
And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat;
And I will enter into judgment with them there
On account of My people, My heritage Israel,
Whom they have scattered among the nations;
They have also divided up My land.
3 They have cast lots for My people,
Have given a boy as payment for a harlot,
And sold a girl for wine, that they may drink.“
God will judge all nations after He regathers His people whom were scattered among the nations. This regathering is happening now folks! It is called Aliyah, which is the regathering of the Jews who were scattered throughout the world after their dispersion two thousand years ago. So what will God be judging them for? He will judge them for how they treated His people, for what they did to them and what they didn’t do to and for them.
Most of the world is against the Jews, against the tiny nation of Israel, but God will not be mocked, He knows who is for Israel and who is against her, He knows who has helped His people and who has come against them! This prophecy is a promise of what God will do, it is a promise that He will keep.
I don’t know about you but this is a very exciting time to be alive! We are living in the middle of bible prophecy coming to pass! The very prophecies that the old testament prophets wrote about thousands of years beforehand, they are true, they are real, and they are happening now!
The prophet Zechariah prophesied that in the end times Jerusalem will be a cup of trembling to all people around her. He also said that Jerusalem will be a burdensome stone for all people. This is happening now! Jerusalem is a cup of trembling, all people are trying to divide her, she is the center of attention throughout the world.
“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.“
God says that He will seek to destroy all the nations who come against Jerusalem!
“And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.“
The whole word of God is the truth, His promises are still true today as they were thousands of years ago, nothing has changed with God! People changes, society changes, but God never changes, He is the same today as He was yesterday as He will be tomorrow!
Listen to God, hear His voice, follow His lead. Have faith that what God promises is true and will come to pass. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.“
In order for us to have faith in God and His promises we must hear God, and we hear God by reading His word, for it is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth! You can believe God, you can take Him at His word, or you can only believe what you want to believe. But the truth still remains the truth, God will bless those that bless Israel and curse those that curse Israel, He will judge all nations for how they treat His chosen people!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
