Commentary By: Gordon King
When things in this life get bad, when it turns ugly, when the darkness sets in, do not be overcome by it but instead be overcome by the light!
We will all go through difficulties in this life, we will all face trying times, and when we do then we must know how to face them, how to overcome them successfully. We can choose to be overwhelmed by them or we can choose to rise above them, its our choice.
The darkness is led by the evil one, by Satan and his demons, they are liars and thieves seeking to destroy us. Know who your adversary is, know who it is you follow, and if you are a believer in Jesus Christ then you already have what you need to succeed.
Jesus is the light and the light has already overcome the darkness, the darkness being evil, being Satan and his demons.
‘ Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” ‘
When we become born again then we have many blessings, not only spiritual blessings but also blessings in and for this life. We have already overcome the spiritual world by the light of Christ, but my friends we have also overcome the world in which we live if we only acknowledge it and use it to our benefit. When we have Christ we have the light of life!
We need to understand that it is the light of Christ within us that gives us this power, that with it we can do all things, overcome all things! We have won the battle just as Christ has won the battle, we are victorious though Christ, the light of the world. We need to know this, we need to understand this, and we need to acknowledge this, we need to profess it with our mouths, speak it into being into our lives.
On the other hand we can forsake what Christ has given to us and done for us, He will not forsake us, but we can forsake Him. We can fail to know, understand, and acknowledge what He has done for us, not only our salvation, but life itself, life in the eternal and life now on earth. We can allow ourselves to fall, to be overcome by the world, to live in sin. We can allow the lies of Satan to infiltrate our lives, to lead us astray, to destroy us and our life. Remember, Satan is the father of all lies, He was a liar from the beginning, from the foundation of the world.
“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.“
When darkness strikes we must not dwell on it, when trials and tribulations come our way we must not be overwhelmed by them, but instead focus on God, focus on the light, focus on the things of heaven up above. It is the light that overcomes the darkness, and when we focus our attention of God and the things of God then it will overpower the darkness. We may still be in the darkness, we may still be going through these trials and tribulations, however when we bathe ourselves in the light of God then we shall overcome, we will have strength, courage, power, peace, and comfort, we will know that God is with us and is walking beside us during these times of trouble.
Focus on God, pray to God, listen to God, walk with God and you will see miraculous things happen. Many believers wonder why they don’t see miracles in their life, it’s because they don’t look for them! It’s because they don’t acknowledge them when they do happen, because they are not aware that miracles are taking place, or perhaps they just don’t believe in miracles or that God still does miraculous things these days. Miracles from God don’t have to be like block buster movies, they can be very small yet still miraculous.
If you are walking with God then you will see God moving in your life, if you walk with God then you will see miraculous things happen, from the big to the very small. You will hear God’s voice, you will see Him answer your prayers. It’s exciting to see God answer our prayers, it builds our faith and encourages us, and God knows this. He is a good God and wants whats best for us, He wants us to live a good life, to know that He loves us, and for us to love Him even more! So why wouldn’t He answer our prayers, perform miracles in our lives, listen to us and answer us back? That’s just it, He would and He does!
When we feel the darkness closing in around us it can be overwhelming, what we must do is go directly to God, speak to Him, pray to Him, thank Him, worship Him, read, study, and meditate upon His word, apply it to your life. He will give us what we need, He has already given us what we need.
2 Peter 1:2-4
“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.“
Focus on God, be anxious for nothing, and the God of peace will be with you.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.“
God shall supply all of our needs.
“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.“
The light shines in the darkness.
2 Peter 1:19
“And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.”
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
