Commentary By: Gordon King
Our God is a God of grace. Grace, something given to us that is undeserved, unmerited, and unwarranted. It is the love of God showered upon us, not because we deserve it but because He loves us! It isn’t earned nor is it bought.
The bible tells us that we are not saved by our works but by the grace of God.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.“
God’s grace is a gift.
“And are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,”
It is God’s grace that saves us, it is His grace that supplies all of our needs.
“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.“
It is by His grace that we can do all things.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.“
When we are weak then He is strong, it is not of our own strength that we can perform His will but by His strength, it is given to us by His grace.
2 Corinthians 12:9
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Sin has no power over us as we are not under the law but under God’s grace.
“For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.”
God gives more grace to the humble.
‘But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” ‘
God gives us mercy and help by His grace.
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
God gives us grace upon grace, He continues to give us His grace each day.
“And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.”
The grace of God brings us salvation, it trains us in the ways of God waiting for our blessed hope who redeemed us from unrighteousness, our God and Savior Jesus Christ!
“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.”
Jesus Christ is full of grace and truth.
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 3:18
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”
We are to excel in the act of grace.
2 Corinthians 8:7
“But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also.”
God’s grace gives us sufficiency in all things at all times so that we may abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8
“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”
Grace was given to each believer.
“But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift”
God’s grace is extended to the unjust.
“So that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
We will suffer in this life, however by the grace of God He will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish us.
1 Peter 5:10
“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”
The grace of God, it’s all we need in this world, and by it we are saved, we are strengthened, we are given mercy. God’s grace gives us what we need even when we don’t deserve it, daily He gives, more and more each day, grace upon grace. We are justified by His grace, sanctified by grace, and glorified by His grace. By grace we await our blessed hope, the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
