God Calls the Weak!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

What is the significance of our life if we do not know God?  Just how important are we in this world if we ignore salvation?  And what status do we have in this world if we rebel against God?

Every single person living in this world should ask themselves these questions because it is not what we know that makes any real difference but who we know and how we respond to Him!

There are many people who claim to have a high status in the world, they and the world both see them as people of importance, people of value, people who make a real difference.  And in some ways they may be right, some of them have brought good things to society, good things into the world, however, many, many more are merely people of high status, they place themselves above others because of their status, regardless of either of these if we do not have a personal relationship with God and walk with Him daily then these things don’t really matter.

Romans 12:3

For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

I am of no significant importance in the world, I am not famous, I am not wealthy, I am of no great value to the world, I am merely a man who is struggling in the world.  I have made no great contributions to the world, and if I were gone tomorrow then most people probably wouldn’t even notice.  I am meek and mild, and in the eyes of the world they may see me as weak and even foolish.  But God sees things differently, He uses the meek and the mild, He uses the foolish to shame the wise, and He uses the weak to shame the strong.

1 Corinthians 1:26-31

For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— 31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.

God calls upon the weak and the foolish, not many who are wise in the world, not many who are mighty or noble are called.  He chooses those who the world does not in order to put them to shame.

We don’t have to be mighty men and women in this world to be used of by God, we do not have to be people of any significance in the world.  In fact, just the opposite is true.  He doesn’t want us to glory in ourselves but to glory in God!

I was a nervous wreck when God called upon me, I was at the bottom of the pit, I was as low as a person could go without ending his or her life, in fact I was there!  I had nothing to offer and I was in no shape to do it even if I did.  But the good Lord saw something in me that I never saw, a justified, sanctified, and glorified saint, a precious creation, His child that He wanted to use to spread His message and perform His will.

It is when we humble ourselves before the Lord that we are useful to Him, it is when we are emptied of ourselves, when we are weak that He will call us.  We must die in order to put on Christ, not physically die, but die to the flesh and live in the spirit.

I have been spreading God’s word through this site not of my own doing, not of my will but of His will and of His doing.  I do not do it for my own glory but to the glory of God!  It is the Holy Spirit within me that leads me and guides me through the darkness, He is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.  He leads me to write what I write and say what I say, all to His glory and for His will.

As children of God we must die to the flesh, we must be walking in the spirit, we must take God at His word and obey Him.  When we do these things then we know that we are in God’s will, we know that we are in His favor, and we know that all things will work together for our good.  If we do these things then we will be blessed.

It isn’t me personally that is telling you these things but the Holy Spirit within me.  God uses me to spread His word, He uses me for His will.  I am not a perfect person, I make mistakes and at times sin, I am not going to lie.  I struggle with the flesh just like we all do if you are honest with yourself, just as the apostle Paul did as well.  But, I love God, I trust God, I believe in His promises, I talk with God, I walk with God, yes even through the darkness!

Life is difficult, and the further along in my journey the more that I learn about God, the more that I understand His ways, the more I can see the light through the darkness!  I understand more and more each day that I must die to myself and put on Jesus Christ, it makes more and more sense to me each day.  At one point in time I really didn’t understand this message, I sort of did but not like I do now.

When we live for ourselves then we are not living for God but ourselves, when we die to ourselves then we can live for God, for His will, for His purpose.  This is when God can really use us, this is when He will bless us beyond measure.  When we live for ourselves then we are living in the flesh, but when we die to the flesh then we are walking in the spirit with God.  Enoch lived 365 years before God took him, he walked with God, Noah who built the Ark according to God walked with God, Moses who freed the Jews from Egypt and took them through the desert to their promised land walked with God.  These are famous biblical people, not because of their status in the world but because they listened to God, they lived for God, they died to themselves and lived in the spirit, they walked with God!

God takes small things and does great things with them, He plants small seeds that grow into giant trees, and He takes small people and builds them into giants for His kingdom.  It’s not what the world sees that counts, it’s what God sees!  It’s not what is significant to the world but what is significant to God.  If you do something for God that seems insignificant to you it is very significant to God!  If you plant a small seed for God He will turn it into something big for His kingdom.

We may never know just how important what we do for God really is, just who we have helped, who we have led into righteousness, whose life we may have helped save.  We may never know who we have encouraged, who we have led out of the darkness, who we have ministered to in faith.  The point is that when we do it from a humble heart, when we do it not for ourselves but to the glory of God then it will bear fruit, it will be beneficial to God’s kingdom and according to His will.

When we walk with God then we know His will, when we are walking in the spirit then we will be seeking His will, and if we walk according to His word then we are doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord, and isn’t that what really matters?

The life of every Christian should be to walk with God, to be living in the spirit and not the flesh, to lay down our cross and bear His.  This means to not live as the world lives but live as Christ lives, be transformed by the renewing of your mind in Christ Jesus.

Romans 12:2

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Then we shall know the perfect will of God.  Many Christians ask the question: “How can I know the will of God in my life?”  The answer is to be walking with God!  In order to walk with God we must first listen to God, we must read and meditate upon His word, we must apply His word to our life, we must lay down our own life and put on His, we must pray to God daily throughout the day, we must talk to God as if He is a friend beside us and He is, we must trust in His promises to us, and we must seek Him in all things, we must repent of our sins, we must seek to be more and more like Jesus Christ, we must obey Him.  If and when we do these things then we shall know the will of God, it’s really that simple.  Be walking with God and you will know the heart and mind of God, you will know His will.  There may be times when you have a decision to make and you are not quite sure what His will is, you must pray for insight, you must wait upon the Lord, He will give you an answer, you may not like it, you may be impatient, God’s timing is not always our timing.

The good Lord is always speaking to us but are we always listening?  Do we hear God?  If not then we must ask ourselves why?  Perhaps we are doing something in our life that is displeasing to God, perhaps we are sinning, perhaps we are living in the flesh and not the spirit, and if this is so then we are not walking with God.  This should be a wake up call to turn things around, to repent of our sins, to immerse ourselves in God’s word, to meditate upon it, to pray to God throughout each day, to turn over our worries to Him, to seek Him in all things, this my friends is walking with God, it is walking in the spirit, it is being a Christian, a believer in Jesus Christ!

I have had some Christians question me on why I seem to use the term Christian and Believer interchangeably?  Well, my answer is that a Christian and a believer is the same thing.  Believers in Jesus Christ was used before the term Christian even came about, believers are Christians and Christians are believers, there is no way around it.  We also have other names such as saints, the elect, followers of Christ, children of God, the light of the world, etc.

In closing I would like to say that if you feel that you are insignificant in the world do not feel alone, many of us do.  It is not whether the world sees you as significant or insignificant but how God sees you!  Even if you are not yet saved, if you are not a Christian, God still loves you, He cherishes you, you are His creation.  Remember, He chooses the meek of the world to shame the strong, at least this is true for believers in Jesus Christ.  It’s not who you are in this world that matters, it’s who you know and follow that does!  If you do not yet know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior then I strongly urge you to do so now.  It’s very easy to do and it will cost you nothing, you have nothing to lose except life itself if you don’t!

Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. I particularly liked this post because of its honesty and its emotional aspects. This is definitely a good read. Inspiring and brave. I hope you could also follow my blog page, if you don’t mind. Cheers! 🙂

  2. Thank you Gordon, I agree with all you have written here. More of Him means less of us, the way up is down and I just like you had to come to rock bottom with no confidence in my own abilities before I could be used for His service, just as you write when we die to ourselves then we can live for God, for His will, for His purpose. This is when God can really use us, this is when He will bless us beyond measure. When we live for ourselves then we are living in the flesh, but when we die to the flesh then we are walking in the spirit with God. I think The Lord protects us to keep us humble and perhaps that is why we don’t see many results in the physical realm for our labours, at least I don’t and even if there is no crown awaiting me for a reward for fruitful service, I will be eternally grateful that He saved me. My confidence is in Him alone.

    God bless you!
