Commentary By: Gordon King
There is one door which leads to heaven, there is one path which leads to eternal life, there are not many, there is only one! There is only one way, one truth, one life, it sets us free from the world, it leads us to God in heaven. There is food which gives us life, food which came down from heaven, there is water which gives us life, living water.
“I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.“
Jesus Christ said that He is the door, He is the gate which leads to eternal life.
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.“
There is only one gate, one door which leads to life, to eternal life, and that gate, that door is Jesus Christ! There are many doors leading to the same place, they lead to destruction, to eternity in hell!
Jesus said that He is the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Him!
‘Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” ‘
He is the only way, the only truth, the only life! There is no other way to heaven but through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Jesus is our bread from heaven, as the Jews received manna from heaven in the desert for life, we too receive bread from heaven for eternal life!
“Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.“
‘And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” ‘
Jesus said that He is living water, that whomever drinks of this water shall never thirst again, that he or she will have everlasting life!
‘Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” ‘
‘Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” ‘
Jesus didn’t exactly say that He is living water, but referred to the Holy Spirit as the living water.
“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.“
The Holy Spirit is living water, and Jesus Christ is also living water, for the trinity of God is one God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, three distinct persons yet one and the same God. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ Himself!
Those who partake of the bread of life, of living water, those who enter the narrow gate, the door which is Jesus Christ, they have been given a gift from God, eternal and everlasting life! For those believers who think that we can lose our eternal salvation then please ask yourselves what part of eternal do you not understand?
God tells us in no uncertain terms that we shall inherit eternal and everlasting life when we believe in His Son Jesus Christ. He gave us no conditions with this promise, no terms which we must meet before receiving this free gift, nothing other than believing in the divine nature and being of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior! None whatsoever!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.“
Everlasting means just that, everlasting! It doesn’t mean until you mess up, until you commit sins again, it means forever!
“And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.“
I and My Father are one, Jesus Christ is telling us that He is God! He is telling us that no one or nothing will or can snatch us out of His Father’s hand, in other words we cannot lose our salvation! He has given us eternal life, we shall never perish! Never means never to me, it doesn’t mean for a short while or until we mess up again.
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.“
Nothing shall separate us from the love of God, this includes what we do and don’t do in the future, it includes sins past, present, and in the future! The blood of Jesus Christ covers all of our sins, if it didn’t then what would be the purpose of Him dying on the cross in the first place?!
We are to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the world, and if we could lose our salvation, then we must tell people the truth. We would then have to tell them that if you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior then you might go to heaven, but, if you mess up, if you ever sin again, then you will lose your eternal life, you will not go to heaven, so believe in Jesus Christ but don’t ever sin again! How much sense does that make? How many people would ever be saved in the first place if we had to tell them that?! How much love would God have for us if He saved us and then tossed us aside to burn in hell forever if we sinned again? God never said that we might have eternal life, but that we would have eternal life, that we will go to heaven!
The fact is that all of us have sinned again after our salvation, it’s just part of our human nature. And if we could lose our salvation then none of us are saved! God knows that we will sin again, does this make it right? No, of course not! But it will happen, and when it does then we must repent and seek the Lord. It’s not a matter of if we will sin again, but of seeking God in all things, of trusting in God, of following God!
Just because we are saved does not mean that we don’t still have within us our old sin nature, it is still there. The apostle Paul wrote about he himself struggling between the flesh and the spirit.
“For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. 16 If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17 But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.“
Our life as believers in Jesus Christ is a struggle, one between our flesh and our spirit, it is a continual battle. And if we fail to see it or ignore it then it can get the best of us.
God has a plan for all of us, and that plan includes molding us into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. It is part of our sanctification process, and at times He will allow us to sin in order for us to see the error of our ways, in order for us to see that we cannot do it on our own, in order for us to build our faith in Him. No one can follow the ten commandments perfectly, if we could then we wouldn’t need Christ’s sacrifice on the cross to save us, but we all do.
Good works cannot save us, not sinning cannot save us for all of us have sinned, nothing in this world can save us, only the blood of Jesus Christ can save us!
Jesus Christ is the door, He is the narrow gate, He is food from heaven, He is living water, He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one gets to heaven and the Father except through Jesus Christ, no one! He is the one who saves us, He is the one who leads us down the straight and narrow path, He is the one to give us eternal life.
If you are a born-again believer in Jesus Christ do not worry about losing your salvation, your salvation is eternal and everlasting! God made us this promise, and God never breaks a promise! God cannot lie, He is holy, righteous, and pure. Once sealed by the Holy Spirit always sealed by the Holy Spirit! Now that’s good news!
On the other hand, if you are not born-again then you already have eternal death, eternity living in hell! Our physical bodies shall die, this is the first death, however, we all have a soul and a spirit, and they shall live on forever in one of two places, heaven or hell. The only way to overcome this second death (eternally living in hell) is by repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, came down from heaven to offer you eternal life with Him forever in heaven. It’s your choice, eternity in hell, or eternity in heaven with God forever! Make the right choice, your eternity depends upon it!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
