Commentary By: Gordon King
The evidence is before us, there are no excuses given by man for which we should not believe that Jesus Christ is God!
The heavens declare the glory of God!
Psalm 19-1-3
“The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
2 Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.“
I spoke with a couple of Jehovah’s Witnesses today and they invited me to an Easter celebration at their church. I told them that I am an evangelical Christian and that I could not attend their service. They said that’s alright, there are many other people coming who are not Jehovah’s Witnesses either. I said that it matters to me, I believe that Jesus Christ is God and you do not. They attempted to argue with me about it in a nice way, I told them to read the book of John, it says in very clear terms that Jesus Christ is God! They said that there are some differences in what we believe about Jesus, and I told them that they are very significant differences, differences which determine our salvation! I said that we shall disagree, thanks but no thanks, God bless and have a nice day!
What do we believe about Jesus Christ, and does it really matter? Of course it does, it makes all the difference in our eternal destiny! If we believe that Jesus was merely a man then we are not placing our faith in God, therefore we cannot be saved. Jesus Christ was not just a man but God in the flesh! We must place our faith in God not in man, it is only God who can save.
But, you may say, Jesus was the Son of God, but He was just man, God sent him as a ransom for our salvation, this doesn’t mean that he has to be God! Well, I will tell you, how can a man save the world? If Jesus were just a man then he must have sinned, and if he sinned then he was blemished, and if blemished then he was not perfect, and it takes perfection to save, a perfect sacrifice, untarnished blood.
1 Peter 1:19
“but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.“
Scripture tells us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, if this is true and if Jesus were just a man then he also would have sinned making him blemished and tarnished, an imperfect sacrifice, in other words no sacrifice at all! Man cannot save man, only God can do that!
Scripture tells us over and over again that Jesus Christ is God. The first verse from the book of John tell us is no uncertain terms that Jesus Christ is God.
John 1:1
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.“
So who is the Word that the apostle John is speaking about? Verse 14 from the same chapter tells us.
John 1:14
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.“
Jesus never came out and said “I am God”, but He did claim to be God.
John 10:30
“I and My Father are one.“
Jesus said that He and His Father are one, meaning that He is God! You can see this perfectly clear when the Jews accused Him of claiming that He was God.
John 10:33
‘The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.” ‘
Jesus claimed to be God when He told the Pharisees that He is “I AM”.
John 8:58
‘Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” ‘
Scripture tells us that God is “I AM”, read from the book of Exodus.
Exodus 3:14
‘And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ‘
Jesus said that He was “I AM”, therefore claiming to be God!
The apostle Thomas was doubtful until Jesus told him to touch His wounds, then he declared that Jesus Christ was God!
John 20:28
‘And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” ‘
Jesus healed a blind man, the blind man believed that Jesus was God and worshiped Him.
John 9:38
“Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.“
We are told over and over again to not worship anything or anyone other than God, we are also told over and over again in the new testament that people worshiped Jesus, God. If Jesus were a mere man, a good teacher, then people in the new testament would not have been worshiping Him!
Revelation 19:9-10
‘Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.” 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” ‘
The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Why would He say that unless Jesus is not God?! Jesus Christ is God, the bible is the story of God’s love for us, and the spirit of prophecy is the testimony of God, Jesus Christ!
You can believe that Jesus Christ was merely a good man, but if you do then you are not understanding what the bible tells us is the truth, you are missing the point of scripture itself, the meaning of what God is trying to tell us! He loves us so much that He gave Himself as a sacrifice for our sins, He came down to earth in the flesh, actually God Himself in the flesh! This is what scripture is all about, it’s the prophecy of Jesus Christ, the prophecy of God.
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
This is a great article. I mainly face this argument of “Where in the Bible did Jesus claim to be God” or “Where in the Bible did Jesus say he should be worshipped?” by Muslims. I myself can point to tons of scripture both OT and NT to validate my point of view. The problem with ppl that dontbelieve Jesus is said to be God is they either misinterpret scripture or they think NT has been altered to miscontrue the nature of Jesus but that’s not possible because there is prophecy upon prophecy concerning a messiah, concerning the coming of Jesus and he is called God even in OT. I guess ppl miss the fact that in Isaiah he was called Emmanuel for “God is with us”. But idk. There’s only so much you can say haha.
Mormon, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Seventh Day Advent, Catholic, and other Christian cult do NOT believe Jesus Christ is God. Mormon and Jehovah’s Witnesses are both making me very, very uncomfortable. Of course many Jews in Israel don’t believe in God, but during the Tribulation many Jews will waking up. Last year I was walking with my dog and I saw 2 Jehovah’s Witnesses and I said out loud, Jesus Christ is the Lord and He is not an angel and he’s not Michael. Both guys wanted to challenge me and I said I have no time to argue but please look up book of John 1:1 and 1:14. and I walked away from them.
My personal opinion I believe elite organizations and United Nation, even Pope Francis knew Jesus is God and they don’t want humankind around the globe to know the truth. I honestly can say that secretive organizations are run by the demonic, I wish I could explain. Satan and demons know Jesus Christ is God and they are afraid of Jesus. Amen.
Thanks for your comment Jim!
I didn’t know that Seventh Day Adventists and Catholics did not believe that Jesus was God. That’s news to me.
We need to be very careful about who we listen to and who we worship with for these people many not be worshiping the same God that we are. Such as when the Pope had religious leaders from all religions come to worship together at the Vatican, as if we all worship God! There are many religions with many different gods, but there is only one true God, Jesus Christ!
God bless! Maranatha!
Thanks for your comment Shayo!
If people such as the Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t believe that Jesus Christ is God, then one, they must be reading from a different version of the bible than I am, one which has been altered, or two, they are misinterpreting scripture, or three, they choose not to believe scripture. This is why we must read and study the bible to understand the truth, otherwise we will be in error. When we know the truth the truth will set us free, but only if we know the truth!
We must know the truth in order for us to have eternal life, Jesus said that He is the truth, if we truly know Him then we shall know that He is God! If we say that He is not God then we do not truly know Him.
God bless! Maranatha!
Strange the Jehovah Witnesses celebrate Easter isn’t it when they don’t celebrate Christmas?
I think those religions are all part of the wicked Harlot system. The Bible tells us not to let anyone over our threshold that teaches a different Gospel. Catholics under the direction of the pope (a man
maybe false prophet) may end up tolerating every other religion by joining with them in their ecumenical worship services and will promote the lie that all roads lead to God but in doing so they deny The Lord Jesus Christ because He is The Way The Truth and The Life and no one can come to the Father except by Him.
They may end up making tolerance of all religion their Golden Calf but they just won’t be able to tolerate Bible believing Christians who stand on the Truth of God’s word and won’t worship along side them. Those that accept, promote or just tolerate false teachings and practices will be the main persecutors of Christians who worship in Spirit and in TRUTH..We will be lumped together with fanatics like ISIS and hated by all and accused of civil terrorism because we won’t bow our knee to their false christ. However, I do believe some of them that are in error now, will repent to be amongst the tribulation saints who are beheaded for their faith. Especially when they realise that those who stood for the truth as written in The Bible even under persecution have been taken and spared the wrath of God!
I saw a picture of a news paper headline when I was waking the other day it said ‘THOUSANDS MISSING!’
Praise Jesus He is coming soon!
Christine
Thanks for your comment Christine!
We will be persecuted because of our faith in Jesus Christ as God, not just in Jesus Christ the man, the good teacher, a prophet, but Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. We will even be persecuted by people who claim to be Christians, yet in their heart they do not believe that Jesus Christ is God, they also believe that there are many ways to heaven. The culmination of these things is coming to a head, the culmination of all things is coming to a head, and when this happens the Tribulation period will begin. But before this happens the rapture of the church will happen, and I believe that it is closer than we imagine.
I agree with you that many people who believe that they are Christians but are actually deceived, will turn their lives over to Christ after the Tribulation period, and some after the rapture of the church. They will see the error of their ways, they will see that what we have been saying for years is in fact the truth.
