Commentary By: Gordon King
Is the world nuts, has it gone mad? Yes it is, and even more so than we would like to believe.
Yesterday a teenage man went into a high school in Florida and murdered seventeen students in cold blood! For what purpose, what reason would anyone have for murdering innocent human lives, defenseless lives, unprepared lives?
Let us pray for the victims of this horrific tragedy, for the peace and comfort of those who have lost loved ones or have children that were wounded. Let us grieve with the families and send them our love. May the Lord bring good from this tragic event, may He bring salvation to the lost and turn the hearts of people towards Him and not the ways of the world. Amen.
2 Corinthians 1:3-5
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.”
The world that we live in is a world where anything goes, where morals and values are not absolute but are subjective and wide open to interpretation. America as a nation has turned her back to God, we have taken Him out of our schools, we have taken Him out of the public arena, we have turned from His ways. Americans have murdered millions of unborn children, as if they have no life, as if they have no value. Our society has turned everything into good, even that which God says is an abomination to Him!
Is it any wonder that we now see horrific events happening all around us such as these school shootings? Do we wonder why such things are happening when we have told God that we don’t need Him, that we can do it better than He can, when we follow the ways of Satan rather than the ways of God?
America has been hit with many tragedies over the past decade, 911, economic collapse, storms, floods, droughts, and fires of biblical proportions, numerous deadly shootings and attacks, the division of people, civil unrest and the loss of self-control, the list goes on my friends! Are these things happening merely by coincidence? Or could they be God’s judgment upon America?
Has the good Lord brought these things upon us for our rebellion and disobedience to Him? Have we gone so far over the deep end that we are now being judged by God? At the very least He is allowing these things to happen. We reap what we sow, and America has sown some very dark seeds over many decades now. We have divided the family, usurped what God has deemed as righteous and holy and replaced it with what is ungodly, and now we are paying the price for our actions! We have submitted to idols, replaced God with false gods, and even gone so far as to worship nature! Satanism is on the rise, antisemitism is on the rise, as is witchcraft and sorcery, black magic (pharmakeia), self worship, and other doctrines of demons! Many Christian churches have even go so far as to believe and teach that Jesus Christ is not the only way to heaven, that we all worship the same god, and that we will all eventually get to heaven, all lies, all deceptions, all from the pit of hell!
Perhaps God is allowing these things to happen because of our disobedience to Him as a nation. On the other hand we must also remember that we are living in the end times, the last of the last days. We are told in scripture that these things will happen, that they will get worse, as in the times of Noah! However, it could very well be that not only is this bible prophecy being fulfilled but is also the consequence of evil seeds being sown, and I believe that this is what we see happening now.
We cannot avoid tragedies such as these when we submit to evil spirits which are the ways of the world. When we welcome these spirits into our land then we will reap the rewards of such. What we cannot see with the naked eye is the spiritual realm, this realm is very real and active. When we perform acts which are in rebellion to God then we are welcoming in evil spirits. When we live with evil we will experience evil, it’s just that plain and simple! When we accept evil things into our world then we also accept the evil spirits which accompany them.
There is so much more to our physical world than meets the eye, it’s the spirits behind it, either good spirits or evil spirits. What we do and think is from our heart, and when we act in rebellion to God then we are acting from evil, when we act in obedience to God then we are acting from good, there is a spirit behind each act, whether it be an evil spirit or a good spirit. Without God our hearts are evil continually, yet with God our hearts can be clean and pure, righteous and holy if we remain obedient to God.
We often sin because of evil spirits whether directly or indirectly, however, if Satan and all evil spirits were locked up in hell we would still sin without God! Our spirit can be led astray, even as believers we can and do sin, we can allow ourselves to be deceived, our hearts and minds can be tainted with evil thoughts and evil desires. This is not godly, not from the spirit but from the flesh, it is carnal for a believer!
Do not be deceived into believing that just because you are saved that you cannot sin, that your heart will always be in the right place with God. As a matter of fact we can be led astray, we can be deceived even by our own minds and thoughts. When we sin we act according to the flesh, this my friends is carnality! However, when we obey God and do what is right then we are walking in the spirit not the flesh, this is holy and righteous, this is godly.
This is why the scriptures tell us so many times to remain steadfast, to hold onto what is holy, righteous and pure. Why we are told to remain strong and courageous to the end, to persevere and not give up or give in, not because we can lose our salvation but because we can be led astray, led to believe lies, and led to live an ungodly life even though we have been made new creations!
As believers in Jesus Christ we have been made new creations, we are one with Christ and Christ is one with us. We are not to live as the world lives but to live as He lives. He paid the ultimate price for us to live a holy and righteous life, it’s up to each one of us to obey Him, to love Him! We cannot serve two masters, only one. The Holy Spirit lives within each and every believer in Jesus Christ, and when we sin then we are subjecting Christ to our sin over again!
The evil we see happening in the world today is a direct result of our disobedience to God! Whether or not it is God’s judgment upon us seems irrelevant, we will reap what we sow. And when we act out our thoughts of disobedience then we are sowing seeds of sin, and when they grow they will become infectious, ultimately leading to death and destruction!
We need God! We all need God whether we know it or not. We must bow down humbly before the Lord and repent! We must turn from our wicked ways and seek to please God. We must put God first in all things, seek God in all things, and trust God in all things!
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.“
If God’s people will humble themselves, pray and seek His face, and turn from their wicked ways, then He will hear from heaven, He will forgive our sin and heal our land! The bible doesn’t say He might but that He will!
2 Chronicles 7:14
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
God says that if we do these things that He will forgive us our sin and heal our land, but is it too little too late?! Are there enough of His children who are called by His name doing these things? And how many of His people need to be doing this? All of them? I don’t know! I do know that there are many faithful believers in America doing this very thing at this very time. I do know that there are many prayers for revival in America, that many Christians are down on their knees crying out to God, I do know this.
Whatever the case may be, however the good Lord responds, we must seek the Lord in all things, we must trust in Him, and He will make all things work together for the good of those that love Him, all who are called according to His purpose. This is a promise of God! And whatever happens in this world we know that God loves us, that He will never leave us or forsake us, and that one day we will be together forever with the Lord! This should give us great hope and joy in the face of tragedy, trials, and tribulations.
This is how God wants us to be: holy, righteous, and pure, not of the flesh but of the spirit, not following the ways of the world but His ways. It isn’t always easy being a follower of Jesus Christ, but it is the right thing, the holy thing, the godly thing! Walk not with the world, be not carnal, but rather walk in the spirit, be of the spirit not the flesh!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
