Stand Upon the Rock, Jesus Christ!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

Who am I?  Who am I to say what is right and what is wrong?  Am I so righteous and holy that I know all things, that I know what to say and when to say it, that I can preach about the messages that God has given me to share?!

My friends, it is not I but God!  I am unworthy to be called a child of God, yet I am.  I have no righteousness within me to say who is right and who is wrong, it all comes from the Lord!  By the grace of God!

Without God I could do none of this, without God I am as useless as a rock!  Yet it is not I who does these things but the Rock upon which I stand, Jesus Christ!

I have no special attributes which make me able to share what God has given me to share, no unique qualities that I can stand upon to enable me to do what I do.  Without God I am just another soul to be counted upon the masses, a sinner doomed for failure, headed for a destructive life, for eternal destruction!

Yet God sees within me what I cannot see within myself.  He has used me for His will, He has placed within me what I need to get things done, to make things right, and to fulfill His will.  I am found righteous in the eyes of the Lord, not of my own doing but by His grace and mercy upon me!

What I do for the Lord is all from the Lord.  What I see of God and heaven above is from the Lord.  And what I hear from God is all from God!  Nothing that I do which is good is of my own doing but from God.

I share of the goodness of God, of His tender mercies and of His loving grace.  I speak of God’s word as if it has authority and power over our lives, because it does, because He has given me the power and the will to do so!  Nothing of my own doing, it is all from God.

Without God in my life I know who I am and it is not a pretty picture!  However, with God in my life, as my life, I also see who I now am, a child of God, a saint, a king, a priest.  I am righteous and holy in God’s eyes, I am able to do all things through Christ who strengthens me!  My Father in heaven sees me as He sees His Son, although I do not deserve it this is how He sees me, perfected in all things!

It is by the blood of the Lamb, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross that has enabled me to be called a child of God!  It is through His tender mercies and grace that I have been changed from a lost soul with a dead spirit to a living being, a new creation, one with God and His Spirit, a possession forever of the God of the universe!

And now that it has been done in my life, I can live a life which glorifies God.  The power is within me is given by God to enable me to share the truth of God’s word.  It gives me courage and strength, wisdom and understanding, truth and conviction!

Nothing that I do which is good comes from myself, but from my Creator, Jesus Christ!  All good things come from God, all good things are done by God, and all good things glorify God!

Whatever is good comes from the Lord, whatever is righteous and holy comes from God.  It is God who gives us strength and courage, it is God who provides all things, it is God who convicts us of our sins, and it is God who chastens us for our sins.  With God we can accomplish all things, but without God we can do nothing, for all things were made by God and for God, and He holds all things together!

Do not worry about tomorrow for God will provide us with our needs, do not worry if you are good enough for none of us are.  But remember this one thing, a person must be born again of the spirit in order to see the kingdom of heaven!  The only way to be born again is to repent of ones sins and to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, there is no other way!

If you are a child of God then you are precious in God’s eyes, you have been found righteous and holy in God’s eyes whether you think you are or not!  Your sins have been removed from you as far as the East is from the West, that is eternity.  You have been filled with the Holy Spirit of God, He shall never leave you nor forsake you!

Do what is good in the sight of the Lord, not of your own doing but through the power of God Almighty!  Perform His will for you and He will provide you with what you need to succeed.  Listen to God, meditate upon His word, and apply it to your life!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. Thank you Gordon, I agree with what you have said and can identify with so much of that working in myself the closer I get to Him the more I see myself in His light and see there is no good in me, His righteousness alone is my confidence I am made worthy in Him. I pray I will be found worthy to escape all these things coming upon the Earth in the Tribulation but He is my worthiness so this prayer can’t fail can it ?
    God Bless you!

Can we be found worthy to escape the Tribulation coming upon the Earth? Can you? Well sister you already have! Both you and I, and all true believers in Jesus Christ already have escaped the coming Tribulation! You said it yourself, Christ is our worthiness, it is not anything we have done ourselves but all that He has already done for us.

Have faith that God will do as He says that He will, even as small as a mustard seed can our faith be. God has already done many great things told about in the old testament, all of the prophecies given which were to have passed by this time have passed and been fulfilled with 100% accuracy. If we can trust God by what has already happened and been accomplished, then why can’t we trust Him with what He says that He will do and will happen? I can trust the word of God because of what He says would happen in the past happened just as He said that it would.

The Tribulation period is the wrath of God, it is for those who are unrighteous, but we are found to be righteous in Jesus Christ.

    Romans 1:18-19
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.”

The apostle Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians about those who are of the darkness:

    1 Thessalonians 5:1-3
“But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.”

He goes on to tell us about the children of the light, believers in Jesus Christ:

    1 Thessalonians 1:8-11

“But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”

We are of the light, of the day, not appointed to wrath but to salvation, to live with Christ! He tells us to comfort each other just as we are doing!

Many Christians believe that they must go through the Tribulation period in order to be cleansed, but just how is that going to cleanse us?! And if this were so then why did the apostle Paul tell us just the opposite? The only way for us to be cleansed is with the blood of Christ on the cross, no other way!

The apostle Paul also tells us of our rapture into heaven, and to comfort one another with these words. Why would he tell us this if we had to go through the Tribulation period? What comfort at all would that be?!

    1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

Immediately after these verses in chapter 5 he goes on to tell us about the wrath of God upon the world and how we will escape. Why would he say these things immediately after telling us of the rapture of the church if escape didn’t mean the rapture? I believe that it does mean the rapture, and I believe that the Tribulation period is not for believers but for unbelievers, and a time for the Jews not the church.

None of us are righteous without Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior Christine, not one! However, by being born again we have been made righteous through the blood of Christ! We are worthy in God’s eyes, perfected in Christ, made a new creation! Why would God then turn around and make us go through the Tribulation period and suffer? That’s the point, He wouldn’t!

God does not want us to be confused about this situation, about our redemption, about our standing with Him. But many people have made it very confusing, and evil spirits and doctrines of demons have confused the matter even more!

You are on the right side Christine! Just for you to be concerned about these matters tells me that you have nothing to worry about. Take comfort in these words sister, and know that God is with you and He always will be!

    God bless Sister! Maranatha! Gordon

  3. Thank you Gordon! We know He is our righteousness, He has dealt with us and prepared us to know our condition apart from Him. We are accounted worthy by faith in Him alone. It is all a work of grace for us who believe.

    God bless you!
    Christine

  4. Thanks for your comment Christine!

You are most welcome sister! We as children of God need to know that although we may not feel His presence He is always with us, that if we would always remember this one thing then our journey here on earth would be much easier for us.

We have been given the most cherished possession in all of the universe, the Holy Spirit of God! If God is for us then who can be against us? And if God is within us then what can stand against us?

    God bless sister! Maranatha!
