The Greatness of God! Miracles never cease.

Located in our galaxy about 5,500 light years from Earth, NGC 6357 is actually a “cluster of clusters,” containing at least three clusters of young stars, including many hot, massive, luminous stars.  The X-rays from Chandra and ROSAT reveal hundreds of point sources, which are the young stars in NGC 6357, as well as diffuse X-ray emission from hot gas.                                      This composite image contains X-ray data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and the ROSAT telescope (purple), infrared data from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope (orange), and optical data from the SuperCosmos Sky Survey (blue) made by the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope. Commentary By:  Gordon King

As time approaches the beginning of the Tribulation period the darkness becomes even darker.  Evil spirits are becoming more active and more blatant.  There is a division between the good and the evil, and this division is becoming more apparent with each passing day.

As we move even deeper into the end times we can see a widening separation of this evil and good, where the evil is becoming more wicked and the good is shining brighter, as if a separation of the chaff from the wheat!

There will be an increase in evil and wickedness in the world, these are signs of the times, the times just before the return of Jesus Christ to earth.  However, we will also see the hand of God moving over the globe, increased miracles, signs, and wonders!  The good Lord is not just sitting back in an easy chair in heaven, but pouring out His Spirit upon all flesh, performing His will on earth, fulfilling prophecies written about thousands of years beforehand.

We must not forsake the power of God Almighty, nor should we discount the miracles that God is and will perform here on earth, just as He did thousands of years ago.  How is it that some of us do not believe that God can still perform miracles today as He did with the parting of the Red Sea, of raising the dead, of making blind eyes see?  Are we denying the power of God?  Is God not powerful enough to continue performing such things as He did in the past, and even greater things?!  He has the power to save, the power to heal, and the power to do just as He wills.  Let us not detract from the awesome and mighty power of our God!

The bible tells us that Jesus Christ created all things, everything that was ever made.

John 1:1-3

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

The Word made all things, the Word is Jesus Christ, and the Word is God!

John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Jesus Christ, God, created the heavens and the earth.  Just think about that for a moment, let it really sink in.  He not only created the earth, but also the heavens, that includes all that they contain!  Scientists tell us that the universe is ever-expanding, they cannot find the beginning nor the end, they can only guess.

Galaxies

This Hubble Space Telescope image shows thousands of galaxies whose light took billions of years to reach Earth.   NASA, ESA, and J. Lotz (STScI)

The universe is so massive and expansive that we really don’t know just how big it is, in fact it is so massive that our human minds cannot truly grasp it, but we must try in order to know the awesome power, might, and glory of our Lord and Savior!

Scientists can only estimate just how many galaxies are in the universe, some say that there are hundreds of billions while others say that there are trillions of galaxies in the universe, but this is only an estimate, they keep finding that there are many more than they previously thought.

From Space.com“Kornreich used a very rough estimate of 10 trillion galaxies in the universe. Multiplying that by the Milky Way’s estimated 100 billion stars results in a large number indeed: 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars, or a “1” with 24 zeros after it. Kornreich emphasized that number is likely a gross underestimation, as more detailed looks at the universe will show even more galaxies.”

And just to think about how big one galaxy is just boggles my mind, yet alone more than trillions of them!  Scientists claim that our galaxy, the Milky Way, is 100,000 light years in diameter, and it is a small galaxy.  To get an idea of how massive this is, one light year is about 5.9 trillion miles!

According to Popular Science“Here’s how it breaks down: One light-year—the distance light travels in one year, used as the yardstick for interstellar distances—is about 5.9 trillion miles.”

That’s 5.9 trillion miles multiplied by 100,000!  I cannot even compute such a distance.  So if our galaxy is this large, and remember it is a relatively small galaxy, just how big must the entire universe be in order to contain hundreds of billions or trillions, or even more galaxies?!

Stars

Scientists have also said that there are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on all of the beaches in the world!  Once again, I cannot even fathom just how many stars that must be.

Our sun is a star, and it is a relatively small one at that.  However, it would take over one million earths to fill the sun.  And the amount of energy produced by our sun is enormous!

According to innovateus.net“Every second, the Sun produces the same energy as about a trillion 1 megaton bombs!! The Sun produces enormous energy every hour than the entire energy needs of human civilization from the beginning of time.”

And our sun is a relatively small sun compared to many others out there.  The largest known star or sun is VY Canis Majoris, which dwarfs our sun to almost nothing, and forget about the size of the earth compared to it!

When contemplating life and the universe, when meditating upon Jesus Christ and all that He has done, we must think about not only what He has created, but that He holds all things together!  Every little atom in the entire universe is held together by Jesus Christ!  This just astounds me and boggles my mind to think about how awesome, powerful, and magnificent our God is in order to not only create these things but to hold them all together, to control it all!

Colossians 1:16-17

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

It’s easy for us to think about God creating the earth and the heavens right above it, but to consider the immense magnitude of the entire universe and only what we know of it is off the chart!  There really aren’t any words to describe how great and magnificent God really is!

Psalm 19:1

The heavens declare the glory of God;  And the firmament shows His handiwork.

And if God can do all of these things, then why can He not perform miracles on earth, why can’t He do things which are supernatural if He has done much greater things than these?  If what we believe about God is only what we can see with the naked eye, then we are limiting God and His great power, we are minimizing His great majesty!

When we can honestly see what God has done in the universe, then we can appreciate what He has done here on earth.  When we can look up into the heavens and see His greatness then we can truly appreciate the miracles He performs here on earth, and nothing seems impossible with God, nothing!

Let us not limit the power of God, let us not put God in a box, for the power of God is limitless, His love is never-ending, and one day we shall see Him as He truly is, then we shall be like Him.

1 John 3:2

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

The glory of the Lord is visible in the heavens (and with modern technology we can see much more of it than ever before), if we only take the time to look and meditate upon Him and what He has done!  I believe in miracles, I believe in the power of God, and I know that all things are possible with God!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. Dear Gordon King:

Thank you for that awesome rendition of the Word of God.. our Creator, our Lord Jesus Christ!

As the apostle Peter stated regarding Jesus ‘Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory’ 1Pe1:8. Jesus’ greatness and glory are unspeakable, indescribable, unimaginable, and forever. But you have blessed us and given us a lot to think about! Praise God!

  2. Thank you Dr. Gold!

I cannot even imagine what God has prepared for us, the things no one has yet seen, and if what we can see is so magnificent and wonderful then the things He has prepared for us much be just as magnificent and wonderful! So much for us to be thankful for, so much for us to look forward to!

    God bless! Maranatha!
