Commentary By: Gordon King
Hold fast to the word of God, keep it tightly held within your heart, lest you be deceived by false doctrines and fables, falling away from the truth following Satanic lies!
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.“
God is faithful, and His promises are binding forever. We must not lose sight of this, nor should we waver or fall away. When things in this world become even darker, when we find ourselves caught in the crossfire, then it is this hope that will see us through.
We must always remember just who we are in Christ, we must always remember the promises of God. We are the children of the Most High God of the universe, and He promised to give us eternal life, to make us like Christ, to never leave us or forsake us!
If and when we hear a doctrine which sounds different from the one Christ taught us, then we must test it against His word. And if it does not exactly meet God’s word then we must discard it, for it is not the truth! We cannot waver back and forth from one doctrine to the next, not really knowing what the truth really is. God gave us the truth in His word, it has been from the beginning and shall always be, not a word shall pass away! And God forbid that anyone should add to it or take away from it.
“For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”
The apostle Paul tells us that we are to hold fast to the gospel that he preached, that Jesus is the Christ, that he died on the cross and arose from the dead, that he then ascended into heaven and is now with the Father, that He is the only way to have eternal life.
1 Corinthians 15:12-19
“Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.”
Any other doctrine is a lie, and if Jesus did not rise from the dead then our faith is futile, then none of us have any hope of salvation and eternal life!
1 Corinthians 15:1-2
“Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.”
Jesus Christ was the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep, the first resurrected from the dead!
1 Corinthians 15:22-23
“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.“
The apostle Paul is telling us that we will be resurrected at Christ’s coming, he is speaking about the rapture of the church!
1 Corinthians 15:51-53
“Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.“
This body of flesh that we have is corruptible, yet the spiritual body is incorruptible, we are born into corruption, yet we will be resurrected into incorruption with our new spiritual bodies! We are born from the dust of the earth, physical and corruptible, when we are resurrected to Christ we are of the spirit which is incorruptible.
1 Corinthians 15:50
“Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.“
What is of flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, meaning that unsaved people cannot inherit the kingdom of God, one must be born again, given a new spirit, only then can a person enter the kingdom of heaven!
1 Corinthians 15:58
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.“
This is being a Christian, being steadfast no matter what happens, being immovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that our labor is not in vain in the Lord, but that His promises are true, that one day soon we will be united together with Christ, made in His likeness, given a new immortal spiritual body!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
