Redemption, Justification, Sanctification, Glorification, How much of it is on our part?

Commentary By:  Gordon King

What can we do to earn our salvation?  How can we as mere mortals sanctify ourselves to be holy enough to enter heaven and the presence of God Almighty?  Can we redeem ourselves?  Can we glorify ourselves?  Of course not!  There is nothing in this world that we could possibly do to obtain any of these things, other than repenting of our sins and accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior!  Nothing!

It is only by the grace of God and His mercy upon us that any of these things are possible.  It is only God who can justify us, only He who sanctifies us, glorifies us, and redeems us!  Only by the blood of Jesus Christ!

Ephesians 2:8-10

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Philippians 1:6

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

I was a sinner saved by grace through faith.  And although at times I still sin as we all do, I am now a child of God, a king and a priest to God, all of my sins covered by the blood of Jesus.  We must see ourselves as God sees us, Christ-like.

1 John 3:2

“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.”

Psalm 32:1-2

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.  Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.

Revelation 1:5-6

“…To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

The truth is that God Almighty justifies us, sanctifies us, glorifies us, and has redeemed us!  None of it is of our own doing, it is all from God!  By the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ!

Romans 8:30

Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

We have already been justified, sanctified, glorified, and redeemed!  It has been done once we are saved, not in the flesh, but in the spirit.  This is how God sees us now, as we will be in heaven.

Galatians 3:13-14

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

We have been redeemed from the curse of the law, from sin.  Jesus Christ took it upon Himself so that we wouldn’t have to.  By faith we have been saved, by faith we have been redeemed!  We have been purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ, we belong to Him.

Ephesians 1:1-14

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

We have already obtained redemption, an inheritance, being sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, the guarantee of our inheritance, it’s already a done deal in heaven!  Our redemption will be complete once we get to heaven, as will our glorification when Jesus comes to take us home.

In the eyes of God we have been justified, sanctified, glorified, and redeemed already!  This is how God sees us, just as He sees His Son Jesus Christ!  We are one with Christ and Christ is one with us.

Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

We not only have Christ living within us but we also sit in heavenly places with Christ!

Ephesians 2:4-6

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

We cannot by our works and deeds justify our-self, we cannot sanctify our-self, nor glorify our-self, only God can do that.  No amount of works can do any of these things, only the blood of Christ!

2 Corinthians 3:18

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!
