Commentary By: Gordon King
Today, August 21st, 2017 is the day many have been waiting for, the total eclipse of the sun over America!
This uncommon event will occur during the morning hours on the West coast of the United States and ending in the afternoon hours on the East coast.
As we gaze carefully into the sky (only use recommended safety glasses) we must take into consideration the thought of whether this is merely a celestial phenomenon which occurs naturally every so often, or could it actually be more than that?
The bible speaks of celestial bodies in the heavens as for signs, could this actually be a sign from God? Perhaps a sign of things to soon come?
“Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;”
The book of Deuteronomy warns us not to look up to the heavens and worship the sun, the moon, and the stars.
“And beware not to lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.”
The heavens and all that they contain are not to be worshiped as they are the creation not the creator!
And although we are not to worship the stars and the planets, we are to sit up and take notice, to be awe-struck and inspired by the handiwork of our Lord.
“He who made the Pleiades and Orion And changes deep darkness into morning, Who also darkens day into night, Who calls for the waters of the sea And pours them out on the surface of the earth, The LORD is His name.”
“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.”
The heavens declare the glory of God and the work of His hands. They are meant to show us just how great God is, to show us that we in fact are the handiwork of God Almighty!
But, they are also there to separate the day from the night, for seasons, days, and years, and also for signs!
You can take it as you will, but in the context of what is happening in the world and with the alignment of planets next month as spoken of in Revelation 12, I take it as a sign of the times! A sign that the closeness of Christ’s return to earth is soon, even at the door, that the rapture of the church is imminent, that the beginning of the Tribulation period is near, and that the Day of the Lord is not far away.
Perhaps there are even more meanings to this eclipse over America, and perhaps it does have some significance to America herself. Could it also be that the good Lord is warning America, that the darkness over America is not only from the lack of sun but also a spiritual darkness? And if this a sign regarding America, then it is a sign to the world!
“One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”, the last half of the pledge of allegiance, something that children used to say in school while standing at the beginning of each day all across America. I remember it, I used to do it. But things have changed, this is no longer allowed in public schools, God has been taken out of public institutions, He has been pushed out of the land. Perhaps, just perhaps the good Lord is warning us of our disobedience to Him, of our lack of faith in Him, and of American Christians allowing such things to happen in the first place!
America has crossed the line, we have allowed the spiritual darkness to overtake our government, our institutions and our land. America has pushed God aside and allowed this darkness to move in, replacing what was righteous and holy with what is unrighteous, unholy, and ungodly.
Take a moment to reflect upon these things, ask the good Lord to give you enlightenment, wisdom, and understanding. Search your heart, seek the Lord, and you will find the will of God!
Have a blessed and safe day!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
