We belong to Christ forever!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

There is much discussion and controversy regarding whether or not a Christian can lose his or her salvation.  Many believe that once saved always saved, while many others believe that a believer can absolutely lose their salvation.  I believe what the scriptures tell me is the truth, that once we are saved we will always be saved, that nothing can separate us from the love of God, and that Christ will lose nothing which has been given to Him by the Father.

Ephesians 1:3-14

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

True believers in Jesus Christ have been predestined by God to become children of God!  We have been chosen before hand to receive His inheritance, being sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession.

This doesn’t sound to me like those who have been chosen, those who have been predestined to become Christ’s personal possession could lose their salvation.  We have become possessions of Christ and He will gather us together for Himself!  Everything that is His He will never lose, nor can anything take us away from Him.

John 6:37-39

“All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.”

Although we will sin, we will fall short of His glory, we are neither justified nor sanctified by our own works but by Him who saved us!  He shall lose none of all those who the Father has given to Him, that includes all of those who were saved in the first place, and nothing can separate us from the love of God, nothing!

Romans 8:35-39

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

We are not found worthy to be saved by anything that we have done ourselves, nor are we sanctified by what we ourselves do.  It is all done by God for God, by His grace, by which he made us acceptable.  If we can lose our salvation by our works, then how did we ever get saved in the first place?  And if this were true, then most of us would lose our salvation the very same day that we obtained it, and the rest not long after!

Our Father in heaven does not see our sin, rather He sees us as He sees His Son Jesus, pure, holy, and righteous.  Our sins have been washed clean by the blood of the Lamb, now and forever more!

Brothers and sisters in Christ, rest assured that your inheritance is eternal, that God saved you to be His personal possession forever more.  Let us not believe that the world is stronger than the One who created it, nor that the creation is greater than the Creator either.  God is all-powerful, all mighty, and able to do all things, including keeping what belongs to Him, no matter what stands in the way, even ourselves!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

I agree with you Gordon. I have come under some strong temptations to mix grace with some Law keeping at times, which would have caused me to lose my confidence and the assurance of my salvation.. As you have said , knowing there is nothing I can do or add to Jesus finished work to earn my own salvation is where my confidence lies and wherein I am comforted because I would have lost my salvation by now if any of it depended on me to be adding something vital to Jesus’s work.on the Cross. I agree to walk in obedience to the cross carrying mine daily because I know I must decrease that Christ can increase in me but this is His transforming work in and through me by His grace so I am reckoning myself dead to the flesh and alive in Christ.
Deception abounds and evil is all around us and closing in, therefore, we must see ourselves seated with Christ in the Highest Place and know we have the Victory in Him over all the works of the devil and everything is placed under His feet and we are in Him and He is in us so His victory is ours. He is our righteousness and we are found worthy in Him. We must abide in Him then we can REST in that assurance of our eternal security. We enter into the true Sabbath Rest by ceasing from our own striving , a labour of works or a mix of works and grace based Gospel. Just resting on the finished work of our Lord Jesus on our behalf, It is a revelation when we have that knowledge but we must be sure of what we believe because we will be blown off course by every false wind of doctrine that blows our way unless our confidence is rooted and grounded in Him alone.
I have learnt to keep short accounts with the Lord and know immediately when I have grieved The Holy Spirit in my heart so I am quick to confess and repent because nothing is more important to me now than to have peace with God in my heart. The only thing that makes us as believers feel separated is our fear or feelings of guilt because He will never leave us or forsake us and therefore we can remind ourselves it is the atonement of His blood that is our assurance so we need never separate ourselves from Him because He will never separate Himself from us and promised to forgive and cleanse us from all our sin so we can run to Him not away from Him if we do fall.

    God bless

    Maranatha!

      Thanks for your comment Christine!

Very nicely said, well stated and to the point, some very good points, I feel the same way!

We must know that it was only what Jesus did on the cross that saves us, and that should be enough for us to take comfort in our salvation. When we come to realize this then it frees us to do God’s work, to live a life that He intends us to live, and to have the peace that only He can give us.

I also agree that we must be firmly grounded in the word of God so that we are not blown here and there, not really knowing the truth, but being led astray by false doctrines. The world is such a mess and full of lies, that it is not so hard to be blown off course, unless of course you know the truth of His words. And of course, this will only intensify the closer we get to His return.

It is so true that if we do not repent of our sins immediately, then we will feel separated from God. It is sin that makes us feel guilty, it is sin that keeps us from the blessings of God. More than anything I want to be in His favor, yet at times my flesh pulls me in the wrong direction, and when it does then I immediately repent and ask the good Lord to forgive me. Yet I know in my heart that He will never leave me nor forsake me, that even though I don’t measure up to His standards of perfection I will always belong to Him!

Jesus does not want us to be uncertain of our salvation, but to be assured and know so that we can be set free to do our Fathers will, just as He did.

When we as believers come to realize these things then we can free ourselves from the world, we can focus on God and the things of heaven above, we can be the children that God intended for us to be. We are His, we belong to Him, and nothing shall ever separate us from His love!

      God bless! Maranatha!

Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received – only what you have given: a full heart, enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage.

Hi Gordon, I agree. Love is the essence of God in all its purity.
Our salvation begins in the heart. There’s a conversion that must begin there and usually when we’re at our lowest point in our lives. Instead of giving up we have a one on One, a heart to heart conversation with God. It might involve many tears, it might involve screaming, might drop us to our knees, but getting it out of our system is the beginning of healing. It’s a personal journey we must go through to find our way home. It’s a personal relationship He’s looking for, in us individually. Forgiveness is given with a humble heart and with the intentions of not repeating the offense. Staying in the relationship acquires work like in any relationship. Like any relationship, on occasions we falter yet, He loves us so very much He sent His Son to redeem us, forgive us from the strong hold of the enemy. But one has to stay within His grace, sincerely repent and ask for help to deal with the trials presented on a daily bases. If we can only catch our thoughts of doing wrong on that level before it materializes into action, and pray about it, we’d save ourselves and others so much grief.
But if we ignore His Spirit prompting time and time again, you have decided in your heart to let go of the relationship. There comes a time He will let you do as you wish. Do you loose your salvation at this point..?.. God will always be there it’s up to the individual to come back or not. To listen to the little voice within (your conscience) to return to God’s loving arms or not. There is only two paths and we’re given the choice to choose. One leads to life and beauty the other destruction, chaos and death. Look around to see the truth of that. Society is so twisted that good is bad and bad is good –just as in the days of Noah. But I digress…

God does not push anyone into loving Him. He gave us freewill to decided on our own. Begs the question ‘were you really saved to begin with?’. Scriptures tells us if you’re not for Him you’re against Him, if you were once a part of the believers and leave you never truly believed, for if you did you wouldn’t have left; countless examples are found within Scriptures’ pages.
Everyone backslides we’re only human and a good reason we need to walk with Christ everyday because of these tendencies. Jesus is our hope, He experience the same emotions, was tempted but never gave in, He died for us all. He paid our debt and rosed to victory so we can part take in His glory. He is awesome, always there, in our good times but especially in our weakest moments. Our part is not to give up even in our worst nightmare, He tells us to endure til the end (whether it’s our own mortality or His arrival) ’cause where we’re going is so much greater then our imaginations can fathom. Focus on the end game salvation brings not the current madness that’s happening worldwide. Stay within the wings of our Lord doing all that you can to endure with His grace in us, not let the world overcome you. But with His armor on, God is in control. Be reconciled with God and our journey will have its trials but He will make it work for our good. There’s a whole new world coming and it’s not the enemy pulling the strings of men, although at present it seems he has the upper hand. Scripture tells us who wins in the end. God loves each and every one of us! Let’s fight the good fight, let our love shine brightly so men can see the light of grace is in us.
God bless us all to realize just how much love is poured out to each one of us. We belong to Christ forever on His part, but do we want to be..?.. The choice is ours to make…
Thank you Gordon for a timely message and in answer to your question only we as individuals can loose our salvation. God never changes we must. God bless, my friend.
