Commentary By: Gordon King
For the love of God! Isn’t this what it’s really all about?
How do we carry on in our daily lives? What is it that drives us to do the things that we do?
As believers in Jesus Christ ours is to love those in the world as God first loved us. The love that God has for us should be the force that drives us to reach out to others in the world with compassion and love. It should be the force that compels us to help others, to treat others with kindness, to encourage one another.
The world expects us to be like them, to follow their ways, to agree with their methods. Yet God tells us differently. He tells us not to follow the ways of the world, that the opinions of man are folly, and that the paths of the world only lead to destruction!
The word of God has been twisted by the world, it has been altered to suit their needs, to suit their lifestyles. We must as believers take the word of God for what it really is, for what it really says.
Matthew 22:36-40
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
If we are to love the Lord God with all of our heart, soul, and mind, then how can we deviate from the truth? If we follow this greatest of all commandments, then we will obey God, we will want to perform His will and not our own. And by obeying God and His commands we are following the truth, and the truth shall set us free!
Let us love one another with the love of God. Let us confront the world with God’s love, with the same love that He first showed us! Sometimes love hurts, sometimes it really hurts to hear the truth, but the truth shall always remain the truth.
The world does not want to hear about God’s truth, nor does it agree with it all or any of it. However, as believers in Jesus Christ we must remain true to our faith in God, we must remain steadfast no matter what the world throws at us.
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
