The Signs of the Times are Prophecies coming to pass!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

What does insanity and the end times have in common?  They are both marked by the presence of evil, by the overwhelming increase in evil spirits leading the lost to perform crazy acts, rebellious acts of chaos, confusion, and violence.

This common thread is what divides good from evil, right from wrong, and the holy from the unholy.  It is what separates the godly from the ungodly, from those in rebellion to God and to those following God and His ways.  Society will continue on a downward spiral until the coming of the Messiah, until his physical appearance upon the earth, upon His second coming.

2 Timothy 3

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

These are signs that the closeness of Christ is at hand, that the return of our Lord and Savior is even at the door!  They are not merely signs of the times, but bible prophecy!  These are prophecies which are now coming to pass in our time.

Matthew 24:4-14

And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

There are many who preach that the gospel must be preached to “every” person before the end will come, however, Jesus said that it will be preached “in all the world to all nations,” not to every person before the end comes.  So then just how close are we?  With all of the modern technology, television, internet, radio, and cell phones worldwide it would seem that this is very close to being fulfilled if it hasn’t already!  I mean, the world really isn’t all that big, and with all of this technology it sure would seem like this should have already happened.

Whatever the case maybe, we are getting much closer to the return of Christ than ever before, and with all of the signs now coming into play it would seem even much closer!  There are more prophecies which are coming to pass, and more which are ready to come to pass.  Here are a few of them:

Isaiah 17

“Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city,  And it will be a ruinous heap.

Zechariah 12:3

And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.

Ezekiel 38

Gog and Allies Attack Israel

All of these are prophecies I believe will take place before the Tribulation period begins, however with that being said, I also believe that the rapture of the church will occur before this time, I know many of you don’t agree with me and we won’t all agree on everything.

The rapture of the church is also bible prophecy!

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

1 Corinthians 15:51-53

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

There are many, many more prophecies which will occur at the beginning of the Tribulation period and after, such as the coming of the Lawless one, the confirming of a covenant with Israel, God’s outpouring of His wrath upon the wicked, the abomination of desolation, the Mark of the Beast, the intense persecution of believers, the fleeing of Jews from Israel, the recognition of Jesus Christ by a remnant of Jews as their true Messiah, the second coming of Christ, and the Millennium period when Christ will rule the earth for one thousand years, and on and on it goes!

We are living in a time when bible prophecy is being fulfilled at a fast pace, when we can actually see it happening and falling into place, when ancient scripture is coming to life right before our very eyes!  We can relate what we see happening in the world to biblical scripture and make sense of all the chaos, confusion, and insanity in the world around us.  If we didn’t know Christ, if we didn’t know what was written in scripture, then we may be fearing for our lives!  But as believers in Jesus Christ we can rest assured that our salvation is affirmed, that what God tells us will happen will happen, that what is happening in the world will take place for a reason, and the end result is our eternal salvation with God forever!

We are here for a reason, if not then God could have just taken us home once we were saved, but He didn’t!  We are here on a mission for God, each and every one of us, we all have a purpose in this life.  And when times get dark we can remember that God does have us here for a reason, that He is with us to see us through, and that if we are doing God’s will then nothing can stop us from accomplishing His will but ourselves.  If God is with us and for us then who can stand against us?!

As believers in Jesus Christ we have Him living within us, we are His temple on this earth.  None of us are perfect, we all make mistakes, we all at times sin, yet we are children of the Most High God of the universe!  Let us be the people who He created, each of us with our own unique personalities, our own faults and weakness, yet created in His image.  He loves us for who we are not who we wish that we were or who we want to be.  Remember, God gives grace to the humble, but He resists the proud.  Let us not think more of ourselves than we really are, but humble ourselves before God and give Him the thanks, worship, praise and glory that He deserves.

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

Hello Gordon, It is easy to see these signs all around us in the present days but recently I have been very concerned for so many of the young people I know in my wider family and children of neighbours and friends just do not seem to fit the pattern as described in 2Timothy 3. Nearly all seem to be so very nice in all aspects especially in honouring and loving their parents and families and friends etc. I wonder what is to become of them as they are not professing to be Christians. They would find it hard, I think, to see themselves as downright sinners because in comparison to most they are really doing rather well and are a credit to their parents in worldly standards. If it is was worthiness that saved and not by faith alone then they are definitely more worthy than I! How to pray for them?

You know, a very great deception is one which comes in a very small package, and by that I mean that there are signs of the times which are so very subtle that they are often overlooked. So many people, believers included, only really look at sensational news stories, at events which can easily be attributed to bible prophecy, while they overlook the small and what seem to be rather insignificant, yet they are signs that we are living in the last days. People believing that they are good without Christ is one of those signs, believing that they will get to heaven without Jesus Christ and by their good works.

This is a very great deception, the fact that so many unbelievers think that they will get to heaven because they are good people, because they do good things and they don’t get into trouble. The fact of the matter is it doesn’t matter how good we are, our works do not save us! Our good works are as filthy rags to the Lord, and it is not until we are saved do they count for anything when done in Jesus name.

If we have not accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior then we are rebelling against Him, this in and of itself is a sin. I once heard a women that I worked with tell me that she is going to heaven because she is a good person, she doesn’t believe in Christ, but says that she does good things and is basically a good person. Well, no matter how good she is, she will never be good enough to get to heaven, she can never repay her sin debt, only Jesus can do that for us, we can only get to heaven by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior! He is the only way.

And though you may not see it, we all sin, each and every one of us. While they may not seem like big sins to us, to God they are sin, and they separate us from Him and heaven. We are all born into sin, we all have a sinful nature. Lusting after someone, wanting something that someone else has, wishing harm upon another, lying, cheating, saying the wrong things, gossiping, these are all sins.

Scripture does not say that all people will be as described in 2 Timothy 3, but I think that it will be the overtone in society in the end times. 2 Timothy 3 also tells us that people will be unholy, being ungodly, not of God. So then, if a person does not follow Christ then he or she is ungodly and unholy.

We need to pray that God will show them the truth, that He will soften their hearts and open their eyes, that He will bring them to repentance and salvation. We should pray without ceasing, being steadfast and remaining in prayer. It’s up to God to change the heart, ours is to set an example and share the truth.

Unfortunately this is a great deception that so many people fall victim to, believing that they are good enough. It’s actually a trap that is much worse than a person who is so noticeably sinning (ie, murdering, committing adultery, stealing, etc). Satan is the father of all lies, he is the great deceiver, and many shall fall victim to his schemes.

      God bless! Maranatha!

Thanks Gordon, I agree , it is so much harder for the self righteous to know they need a saviour, I almost wish they would do something outrageous that will leave them without any doubt that they have messed up. Anyway I do pray as you have said for them and I do ask The Lord to bring on them the conviction of their sinfulness. I also last night was listening to a teaching about the great white throne Judgement when all sins are laid bare even secret sins every thought word and deed all Judged in the open ….Wow! If that doesn’t bring people to repentance I don’t know what will. Thank God that there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus!

    God bless!

I know of people who said that they went to church for years, but have turned away from the Christian faith, and in fact are antichrist in their words and actions. They are proud, arrogant, and self-seeking. They cannot see God nor do they know Him. I was thinking about this last night, and was wondering if it must take a tragedy in the life of themselves or their family members to wake them up?! Must something terrible happen to them in order for them to see the light? Unfortunately I believe that it must for many to be able to see the truth, to humble themselves and bow down before their Creator. And some point in time we will all bow down before Jesus Christ and confess that He is Lord, however, at that time it will be too late!

I wholeheartedly agree, thank the Lord that we are no longer under any condemnation! Amen. God is so good!

      God bless! Maranatha!

I believe many will turn again in the tribulation and will be martyred for their renewed faith .It will be a time of purification for those that Endure. Surely every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord to the Glory of The Father! Those that receive the mark of the beast will have sold their soul to Satan who is filling the false Christ and will worship The Anti Christ they shall be damned .

    God Bless

It shall be a time like no other, when the rule of Satan upon the earth will be in full force. I for one do not want to be here when that time occurs. Looking forward to our blessed hope!

      God bless! Maranatha!
