Discern the Truth from Lies in a Darkening World!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

How can we know the truth from lies?  The world is full of people who are out to deceive, powerful people, regular people, people from all walks of life.  If we believe everything that we hear, then what is to keep us from being deceived ourselves?

As time marches on the world will become more and more evil, more wicked, and full of more and more deception!  It is up to each and every one of us to be able to discern the truth from lies, no one else will do it for us.

And if Satan and his demons can transform themselves into angels of light, then we better be darn sure that we are able to discern!  We must know the truth, we must know lies when we hear them, and we must be able to sort them all out.

What we see on television and in the movies is not always the truth, and in fact I would bet that most of the time it’s not!  However, this is where most people in the world get their information, and as such form their opinions about the world around them.

As the world gets darker the chaos, confusion, and deception becomes more intense.  And the closer we get to the beginning of the Tribulation period the more and more this will be the case and it most certainly is.

It’s not easy living in this world, and it’s even harder for the believer.  Those of the world follow world views, they go with the flow, but for the believer it’s just the opposite, or at least it should be.  We not only have to contend with tribulations in this life but also with the lies and deceptions of the world!  And on top of all that we have to contend with unbelievers persecutions against us as well.

This is a most vital time for believers in Jesus Christ to know without a doubt what is the truth and what is a lie.  We must not just guess, we must know!  The word of God is given to us so that we would know, and the Holy Spirit of God is the Spirit of Truth.  Each and every believer has the Holy Spirit living within them, we can listen or we can ignore, we can follow God’s lead or we can be led by the world and we know who the ruler of the world is.  The Holy Spirit is within us so that we would know the truth, so that we would be able to discern, but we also need God’s written word, it is not only informative but enlightening and powerful in the life of a believer.

If we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us then we will be able to discern, we must not grieve the Holy Spirit by disobeying God, but by following God’s ways, by knowing God’s word, and by being led by the Spirit of Truth!

Evil times are coming, they are headed our way, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out (they probably wouldn’t anyway).  Holy scripture tells us that these things are coming, it tells us that things will get worse and worse leading up to the beginning of the Tribulation period, and much, much worse during the Tribulation period.

I for one do not believe that the church will be here during the Tribulation period, for we are not appointed to wrath but to salvation through Jesus Christ.  We are to take comfort in knowing that we will not endure the wrath of God, but that He is coming to take us home before that time.  To me this is very comforting to know, however if I believed that we must go through the Tribulation period then I find no comfort in that, in fact just the opposite!

The beginning of the Tribulation period is started by the confirming of a covenant by the Antichrist, this begins the wrath of God upon a wicked world, upon a world in rebellion against God, not upon God’s precious children.  And as far as I know this has not happened yet, the rapture of the church is imminent!  Nothing in this world needs to happen before the rapture of the church takes place, nothing.

With all of that being said, we will still live in a world with great deceptions, with many lies, with chaos and confusion, and all of it getting much worse until we are taken home.  We must be prepared to stand firm in our faith, to take a defensive posture in fighting the enemy, to not be led astray, to contend for our faith.  We must fight off the fiery darts of the enemy, and the way to do that is by putting on the whole armor of God, by praying without ceasing, by having faith in God and His promises to us, by knowing what God tells us is the truth, and the truth shall set you free!

I am not writing these things to give you fear, just the opposite, to give you encouragement, faith, and knowledge of the truth, in order to be well equipped to live in the world around you when times get dark.  We are fighting against spiritual darkness, darkness which seeks to destroy what is holy and righteous.  And we must always remember that He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

Thank you Gordon. I agree we must be very sensitive to the guidance of The Holy Spirit who guides us into all truth. I was only thinking today how important that must have been in years gone by when most people were unable to read for themselves. I thank God we have the Holy Spirit inspired Bible and The Holy Spirit indwelling as our guide. There is so much deception out there and so many predictions coming in from Christians concerning dates for the Rapture. God is not a God of confusion and if we look to man and lean on getting guidance from Man we will become confused for sure because they are not all saying the same thing but sound so convinced that they are right, so there must be error amongst Christians too.
However, I did have a flash picture given to me the other day just as I was waking up, it was totally out of the blue and not something I had been thinking or dreaming about so it took me completely by surprise, it was so quick it took literally just a second and it was a picture of President Trump with his head turned up looking up into the sky! I am taking that as confirmation ( last trump, lift head up) Rapture coming soon. No dates set and 1 day and a 1,000 years are as tomorrow with The Lord but I am getting my house in order, spiritually and practically too because I want to be prepared with lamp lit and plenty of oil should He tarry.

    God Bless!
    Maranatha!

      Thanks for your comment Christine!

I was also thinking about, before Trump became President, was the comparison of Donald Trump to “the last Trump” spoken of in 1 Corinthians 15:52 in reference to the rapture of the church. I was inclined to take this as a sign that Donald Trump would be elected president, and that just perhaps this is a sign to us that he would also be our last president before the rapture, it makes sense. And it’s sort of funny in a way, but God does have a sense of humor at times.

We don’t know this for sure, but if it is true then we surely don’t have much time left!

I hope and pray that you are well!

      God bless! Maranatha!

John the Apostle speaking: It is not every spirit, my dear people, that you can trust; test them, to see if they come from God; there are many false prophets, now, in the world. You can tell the spirits that come from God by this: EVERY SPIRIT WHICH ACKNOWLEDGES THAT JESUS THE CHRIST HAS COME IN THE FLESH is from God; but any spirit which will not say this of Jesus is not from God, but is the spirit of Antichrist, whose coming you were warned about. Well, now he is here, in the world. Children, you have already overcome these false prophets, because you are from God and you have in you One who is greater than anyone in this world; as for them, they are of the world, and so they speak the language of the world and the world listens to them. But we are children of God, and those who know God listen to us; those who are not of God refuse to listen to us. This is how we can tell the spirit of truth from the spirit of falsehood. 1John 4:1-6 Live as God’s children, break from sin, keep the commandments, especially the law of love, and be on guard against the enemies of Christ and against the world. Maranatha! God bless.
Pray all is well with you Gordon, in these troubling times. I agree with you we must be prepared and ready having the full armor of God on: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit (God’s word). God bless you.

      Thank you SweetJava!

I have been under increased attacks from the enemy this year, however, I am enduring because He who is in me greater than he who is in the world. Amen. Our momentary light afflictions are nothing compared to what we have inherited from our Lord, eternity with Him!

If we are born again into the kingdom of God, then we shall suffer in this world, and if we say that we don’t then we deceive ourselves. It’s not that I want to suffer, yet I know that it is for Christ’s sake and and it brings glory to His great name, so I count it as joy. And when I look at these things from a heavenly perspective then it makes much more sense and is much easier to endure.

I eagerly await the coming of our Lord to take us home! And even if He tarries a bit then so be it, for our life is but a flash in the pan compared to all of eternity.

Take care SweetJava, you are in my prayers. God bless! Maranatha!

Wholeheartedly agree with you, Gordon. People are having trouble believing let alone discerning truth anymore. Everything is being distorted. Then they hear truth from Scripture and push it aside. Not knowing in the gospel is the truth and wisdom they seek, of who we are and where we’re going. Believers get chastised for speaking it, living it. We’ve been programmed subtly for too long to believe everything but the gospel. Another reason we’re asked to come out of the world of deception.

Continue to stay focus on God and His kingdom in these chaotic days my friend, is also what I’m doing. No ill to anyone and loyal to God. God is refining us believers for a greater purpose in the challenges we’re facing on a daily bases. Staying steadfast God uses us, giving us His strength to persevere. Psalm 62:7 ‘In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.’ ‘So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:’ (2 Thes.1:4) I try to show by example in the way I live my life, when ask I say I’m a child of God and loyal to Him. If their receptive great I elaborate, if not I leave it at that and let God take over. We are asked to plant the seed not cause arguments, we are asked to show Christ living in you, doing our best in following through on His word. Trusting Him with everything in whatever situation we find ourselves, for everything works together for His glory. And so I try one day at a time. Some days are harder then others but I still get up with a prayer and His armor on.

Everything is aligning for His soon arrival, I too, am eagerly awaiting His return and a glorious return it will be! That’s our hope! And with hope we face another day. God is looking for a personal relationship with each of His children… How awesome is that! Praise be His Name! And like a Father/Mother/Caregiver He corrects, chastens, refines. No one’s perfect (on this planet), but we can strive to be by being honest with God. He knows us best, knows are weakness. Wants us to acknowledge it and He will instill in us His will through the gift of the Holy Spirit to change. While here trust Him to finish what He started with the grace, strength, love He gives us to pay it forward; with His free gift of salvation to all who calls on the name of Jesus.
Be of good cheer we’re going home, soon!
My prayers are with you as well, Gordon. God bless.
