Bible Prophecy in the Making!

The destruction of Damascus

Commentary By:  Gordon King

The world has become a hotbed of wickedness, and there shall be an increase in evil before the coming of the Great Day of the Lord!

Malachi 4

“For behold, the day is coming,
Burning like an oven,
And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble.
And the day which is coming shall burn them up,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“That will leave them neither root nor branch.
But to you who fear My name
The Sun of Righteousness shall arise
With healing in His wings;
And you shall go out
And grow fat like stall-fed calves.
You shall trample the wicked,
For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet
On the day that I do this,”
Says the Lord of hosts.’

As the days go by the world is moving closer to its destruction, and with each passing hour time is moving faster towards the culmination of events which will trigger the beginning of the Tribulation period!

Many prophecies of the old testament have already been fulfilled, yet there are many more which have not, and many which are now in process or in the making.

Focus in on the Middle East and you will see that bible prophecy is happening now.

Zachariah 12:2-3

“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.

Zachariah 12:9

It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Jerusalem has been a hot topic for decades now, when before this is was merely a city forgotten by the world.  Yet now it is the most controversial and fought over city in the world!  The debate on who Jerusalem belongs to has overwhelmed the world, and say it isn’t so that there has been much fighting over it.  Jerusalem has been made a very heavy stone for all peoples, and some people are attempting to take it away from the Jews!  Not only are they attempting to take away Jerusalem but also Judah!  The so-called Palestinians claim that the land belongs to them, and there is much controversy regarding both Jerusalem and Judah.

Isaiah 17

The burden against Damascus.

“Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city,
And it will be a ruinous heap.” ‘

The Syrian civil war has brought much destruction to this war-torn nation, and most of the surrounding areas of the city of Damascus are already a ruinous heap.  It sure wouldn’t take much for this prophecy to be completed.  In fact, there has been much tension recently over Israel making strategic bombings on what it says are shipments of deadly missiles headed for Hezbollah in Lebanon.  The Syrian government has said that if this continues they will take retaliatory action against Israel by firing rockets into Israeli cities.  If this were to occur, then it isn’t too hard to see what Israel’s response would be, more than likely a major strike on Damascus!

Another bible prophecy which is in the making at this very time is the Gog invasion of Israel.  The stage is set now for this invasion to take place.  Russia has moved into neighboring Syria and dug in its heels, and all of the other nations mentioned in this prophecy are against Israel.  How much longer before the Lord puts His hooks into their jaws and leads them out to invade the land of Israel?  I can’t really see this happening in the distant future as the stage is already set.

Ezekiel 38:1-13

Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords. Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; Gomer and all its troops; the house of Togarmah from the far north and all its troops—many people are with you.

“Prepare yourself and be ready, you and all your companies that are gathered about you; and be a guard for them. After many days you will be visited. In the latter years you will come into the land of those brought back from the sword and gathered from many people on the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate; they were brought out of the nations, and now all of them dwell safely. You will ascend, coming like a storm, covering the land like a cloud, you and all your troops and many peoples with you.”

10 ‘Thus says the Lord God: “On that day it shall come to pass that thoughts will arise in your mind, and you will make an evil plan: 11 You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will go to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates’— 12 to take plunder and to take booty, to stretch out your hand against the waste places that are again inhabited, and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land. 13 Sheba, Dedan, the merchants of Tarshish, and all their young lions will say to you, ‘Have you come to take plunder? Have you gathered your army to take booty, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to take great plunder?’”’

Another prophecy which is often overlooked is Jeremiah 49.  This bible prophecy is yet to occur, and it is regarding the nation of Elam, which is todays modern Iran.

Jeremiah 49:34-39

The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35 “Thus says the Lord of hosts:

‘Behold, I will break the bow of Elam,
The foremost of their might.
36 Against Elam I will bring the four winds
From the four quarters of heaven,
And scatter them toward all those winds;
There shall be no nations where the outcasts of Elam will not go.
37 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies
And before those who seek their life.
I will bring disaster upon them,
My fierce anger,’ says the Lord;
‘And I will send the sword after them
Until I have consumed them.
38 I will set My throne in Elam,
And will destroy from there the king and the princes,’ says the Lord.

39 ‘But it shall come to pass in the latter days:
I will bring back the captives of Elam,’ says the Lord.”

The Lord has a fierce anger against Elam or Iran, He promises to bring disaster upon them and the sword after them.  He says that He will break their bow, could this perhaps in our modern times mean missiles, the foremost of their might?  He will destroy their king and princes, he will scatter their outcasts among all nations.  What does he mean by the “outcasts of Elam”?  Could this be referring to Christians living in Iran?  Perhaps, and if so then just maybe they are sent out to evangelize the world, wouldn’t that be ironic coming from Iran?!  It sure isn’t difficult to see this prophecy happening anytime soon, as the tensions between Iran, Israel, and America are at an all time high!

When we move our focus of attention from the Middle East and look elsewhere in the world, then we can see that bible prophecy is also being fulfilled now, right before our eyes!

2 Timothy 3:1-5

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”

Matthew 24:4-14

And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

I don’t know about you but I see the world being like this right now!  And if the world looks like this now, then just how far could we actually be from the beginning of the Tribulation period?!

2 Thessalonians 2:1-12

Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

The Lord will come as a thief in the night, when sudden destruction will come upon those of the darkness, but as children of the light we are to watch and be sober.  We are not appointed to wrath but to salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ!

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

Watch, this is a command of God, be ready and waiting for our blessed hope!

Matthew 24:44

“Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!
