Commentary By: Gordon King
Most of us have probably heard the sayings “You are so earthly minded that you are no heavenly good” and “You are so heavenly minded that you are no earthly good”!
Well, both could be true if we allow them to be. Being so earthly minded means that we are so intermingled with the world, so engaged in earthly pleasures that we neglect God and the things of heaven above. However, by the same token, we could be so focused on God and heaven that we neglect those living in the world. Not that we shouldn’t be focused on God, we most certainly should, yet we also need to remember that we are still living in this world, and we are here for a purpose!
Just how many of us are so intently focused on God and the things of heaven above that we neglect the world and those living in it? Have we become so godly that we have forgotten just who we are living in the world and just what it is that we are supposed to be doing?
I am in no way saying that we are not to be godly, nor that we should not strive to be more Christ-like, of course we should. However, being more like Christ means to be more loving, more helping, more self-sacrificing to those living in the world.
It doesn’t really take much to divert ourselves from the needs of others, nor does it take much to divert our attention away from God. Our focus must remain on God, but God is much more than just the Creator, much more than just a Spirit up in heaven that we worship and praise, we cannot put God in a box. God is love, He is light, He is self-sacrificing, He is life, He is immeasurable!
In order for us to be more like Jesus Christ, then we have to act more like Christ! We need to do as Jesus did, we need to think as He would think, and we need to be self-sacrificing as Christ is also.
We are here on this world to perform God’s will, and this includes spreading His word, sharing, loving, and fighting against evil.
The last days are upon us, evil will increase the closer we get to the Tribulation period. We are to shine God’s light upon it, expose the evil for what it is, to stand against it, and to replace it with the light.
Doing these things is not the popular thing to do these days, nor are they according to the ways of the world. We are called to do what is righteous and holy, and there will be opposition to it! We must stand firm and hold fast to what is of God, we must live it out in our daily lives.
I am writing these things not in order to impress you, not to instill guilt or ill feelings, but to warn you that our time is short and we must be about our Lord’s work! That things are about to get much worse than they already are, and that we must be ready at all times! Be aware of what is happening around you, listen to the Holy Spirit within and follow His lead.
None of us are perfect, we are all on a journey, and as such we should be growing in our faith along the way. On this path we will encounter many pitfalls and traps, this is why it is so vitally important to remain alert, be prepared, and keep the faith!
Whatever happens to us God is always with us, He will never leave us nor forsake us. Keep Him at the forefront of your life as you perform His will on earth as it is in heaven!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
