The Spirit of Complacency!

Demonic Spirits gargoyle

Commentary By:  Gordon King

Complacency definition: self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies <When it comes to safety, complacency can be dangerous.>

By definition complacency is being satisfied with yourself (and I would argue also with the world around you) even if there are dangers which exist, dangers we are unaware of.  There is a danger which exists when we find ourselves complacent with both ourselves and the world, when we fail to see the evils in the world, when we fail to seek God first in all things!  Being complacent places us in greater danger, it blinds our eyes to the truth, it allows us to be deceived!

And isn’t this where we find much of the world today?  But what about the church of God?  I would say that much of the church is asleep, that they are complacent with their lives and the world!  There are great dangers associated with being complacent, such as evil overtaking what is good and not being found ready and waiting when the Lord comes.

I don’t know about you but I want to be found ready when Jesus comes for His bride!  I want to be found walking in the spirit and performing His will on earth.

The spirit of complacency is an evil spirit, it can lead us into believing that all is well, that everything on earth will just work its way out, and that the good will continue to get better and the evil will eventually just subside!  This my friends is anything but the truth, another great satanic lie!

Complacency not only leads us to believe lies, but it also distracts us from communing with God Almighty!  It takes away from our need for God and gives us the false sense that we can do it all on our own.

When the spirit of complacency comes upon us we no longer have a strong desire to seek the Lord, nor do we feel the need to perform His will.  This spirit comes upon us gradually than consumes us like a roaring fire!  Before we know it we have been filled not with the Holy Spirit but with a complacent spirit, a spirit which tells us that we are just fine and that we don’t need God.  This is a spirit of demonic origins, a spirit which leads us away from what God has ordained for us.

I truly believe that if we have been saved, that if we were truly born-again then we cannot lose our salvation.  However, this does not mean that we cannot lose our relationship with God!  We can walk away from God and it can become more and more difficult to hear God.  We can lose many blessings from God, and we will suffer the consequences of not remaining faithful to God!

Do we as believers seek God on a daily basis, do we pray to God throughout the day and seek His wisdom and guidance, or do we merely go through the motions?  Have we become like the Pharisees, performing religious rituals in order to do the right thing, but not believing in the power of the Holy Spirit?  Do we walk as the world walks, or do we walk according to the Spirit?  Do we believe what scripture tells us, do we live out God’s word in our lives or do we merely read the bible because as believers we are supposed to?

I know of Christians who treat other Christians like the world treats them, lack of respect, lack of love, lack of goodness and compassion.  They perform all of the religious rituals that they think will make them more holy, yet they are lacking in actually living out the word of God!  They can spew out bible verses like there is no tomorrow, yet where is their love for their brothers and sisters in Christ?!  It’s not enough to go to church, to read the bible, or to fast, no, it’s much more than that.  It’s about living our lives as the bible tells us to, it’s about allowing Christ to live in us and through us, to let His light shine and become a beacon to the world!

You might be asking yourself what does any of this have to do with complacency?  Well I’ll tell you, when we become complacent then we neglect the things of God.  We become self-righteous and arrogant, we become prideful and self-centered, all of which are sins in the eyes of God Almighty!  When we become complacent then we become unchristlike, we become like the world.

When we stay focused on God then we become like magnets of what is good, righteous, and holy.  We will become as a repellent to what is evil and wicked, however if we are complacent then we can become an attractant to what is evil and wicked.

Stay focused on Jesus Christ, let His light shine through you to a hurting world, encourage your brothers and sisters in Christ, love one another, be kind and forgiving just as Christ forgave you!  These things are righteous and holy, these are the things which set us apart from an evil world.  Do not become complacent in your walk with the Lord, but rather seek Him first in all things, give Him thanks, give Him the glory!  Amen.

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

Complacency is indeed epidemic both among believers and nonbelievers. We suppose that we have it made and don’t need to do anything, like the people of Laodicea, to whom our Master Yahushua (Lord Jesus) has Yochanan (John) write a letter to them, warning them that their complacency in their belief will have to be corrected by purchasing from the Master “gold tried in the fire” (Revelation 3:14-22).

A church I used to belong to used to teach that the Laodiceans were physically wealthy, and when I suggested that it meant they had it made spiritually, that this was their supposed riches, they pooh-poohed it, because then it would be the Master’s finger pointed at them, since they thought they had no more doctrine to learn. They had been close to a break-through at one point, where they could have gone from celebrating the feasts of Leviticus 23, weekly Sabbath and annual feasts, to learning and keeping the whole Torah, as the Master Yahushua did. They rejected that, however, and lost what little they had, going directly back into mainstream Christianity, the opposite of the instructions the Master gives us in Isaiah 52:11-12 and Revelation 18:4 to leave Babylon behind in favor of becoming a part of the restoration of the Kingdom to Israel (Acts 1:6-11; 3:21; Jeremiah 16:14-19; chapters 30 & 31; Ezekiel 37, for starters). Only a few of the slivers of that scattered church held on to what they had.

The Master Yahushua’s complaint, per Psalm 22:14, is, “…all My bones are out of joint…” but He will remedy that, as He tells us in Ezekiel 37, saving people from all tribes of Israel and those Gentiles who will also come to be Israelites through Him (Galatians 3:7, 29). All those dry bones will become moistened by Him, restored to life, with new flesh and plenty of fresh air to breathe, and He will make of us the restored Kingdom of United Israel, the final and eternal world-ruling empire, under the rule of our Master Yahushua, who is the Stone cut out without hands that strikes the statue in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and blows it all to powder (Daniel 2:34-35).

Per Revelation 22:20 (Restoration Scriptures True Name Edition): “Omein! Even so come, Master Yahushua!” HalleluYAH and omein!

    Hello Gordon,
I was only thinking on similar lines today and realising that so many if not all the people around me, family, friends, work colleagues, neighbours, old acquaintances etc just don’t see their need for God in their lives, they are complacent and enjoying their lives in this world and are not troubled. Satan wants them to stay that way, happy with their lives, not troubled, blinded to what’s really going on and perhaps even wanting a form of spirituality/religion but denying it’s power. They will only go so far, controlling just how much religion they will have in their lives because they are not willing to be controlled by anything except themselves. I pray and ask that God Almighty will shake them awake and show them their need, so they too will have a chance to escape what is soon coming on this world. I think many will have to go through the time of tribulation though ( this has been revealed to me ) and I therefore pray that He will keep them until His coming and free from The Mark of The Beast! I am trusting for those that won’t submit now that they will in answer to all prayers said for them be brought to a condition of submission through their suffering during the coming tribulation period. As terrible as It will be for anyone becoming a Christian on Earth during that time, I hope and pray that ultimately they will be saved for Eternity with The Lord Jesus. It is not God’s will that any should perish so feel confident to pray in this way for all those I know.

    Maranatha!

Thank you for this article Grodon. I need to ask you what your senses are with regards to what is called “Christian Magic” where Christians set up a kiosk at the beach or public place and have a Christian magician evangelist play “gospel cards” and supposedly lead people to Christ with Christian magic cards showing them the way. The one Christian magician I know is affiliated with Christian magic fellowships and they are HUGE in the churches today, I had no idea how many churches allow Christian magic in their congregations. Also there is a thing going on called “white magic”. To me personally, if it is Christian then it isn’t magic and if it is magic then it cant be Christian.
    Maranatha!

      Thanks for your comment Ethin!

I have never before heard of this Christian Magic. It certainly is not scriptural and sounds demonic to me!

      God bless! Maranatha!
