Complacency definition: self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies <When it comes to safety, complacency can be dangerous.>
By definition complacency is being satisfied with yourself (and I would argue also with the world around you) even if there are dangers which exist, dangers we are unaware of. There is a danger which exists when we find ourselves complacent with both ourselves and the world, when we fail to see the evils in the world, when we fail to seek God first in all things! Being complacent places us in greater danger, it blinds our eyes to the truth, it allows us to be deceived!
And isn’t this where we find much of the world today? But what about the church of God? I would say that much of the church is asleep, that they are complacent with their lives and the world! There are great dangers associated with being complacent, such as evil overtaking what is good and not being found ready and waiting when the Lord comes.
I don’t know about you but I want to be found ready when Jesus comes for His bride! I want to be found walking in the spirit and performing His will on earth.
The spirit of complacency is an evil spirit, it can lead us into believing that all is well, that everything on earth will just work its way out, and that the good will continue to get better and the evil will eventually just subside! This my friends is anything but the truth, another great satanic lie!
Complacency not only leads us to believe lies, but it also distracts us from communing with God Almighty! It takes away from our need for God and gives us the false sense that we can do it all on our own.
When the spirit of complacency comes upon us we no longer have a strong desire to seek the Lord, nor do we feel the need to perform His will. This spirit comes upon us gradually than consumes us like a roaring fire! Before we know it we have been filled not with the Holy Spirit but with a complacent spirit, a spirit which tells us that we are just fine and that we don’t need God. This is a spirit of demonic origins, a spirit which leads us away from what God has ordained for us.
I truly believe that if we have been saved, that if we were truly born-again then we cannot lose our salvation. However, this does not mean that we cannot lose our relationship with God! We can walk away from God and it can become more and more difficult to hear God. We can lose many blessings from God, and we will suffer the consequences of not remaining faithful to God!
Do we as believers seek God on a daily basis, do we pray to God throughout the day and seek His wisdom and guidance, or do we merely go through the motions? Have we become like the Pharisees, performing religious rituals in order to do the right thing, but not believing in the power of the Holy Spirit? Do we walk as the world walks, or do we walk according to the Spirit? Do we believe what scripture tells us, do we live out God’s word in our lives or do we merely read the bible because as believers we are supposed to?
I know of Christians who treat other Christians like the world treats them, lack of respect, lack of love, lack of goodness and compassion. They perform all of the religious rituals that they think will make them more holy, yet they are lacking in actually living out the word of God! They can spew out bible verses like there is no tomorrow, yet where is their love for their brothers and sisters in Christ?! It’s not enough to go to church, to read the bible, or to fast, no, it’s much more than that. It’s about living our lives as the bible tells us to, it’s about allowing Christ to live in us and through us, to let His light shine and become a beacon to the world!
You might be asking yourself what does any of this have to do with complacency? Well I’ll tell you, when we become complacent then we neglect the things of God. We become self-righteous and arrogant, we become prideful and self-centered, all of which are sins in the eyes of God Almighty! When we become complacent then we become unchristlike, we become like the world.
When we stay focused on God then we become like magnets of what is good, righteous, and holy. We will become as a repellent to what is evil and wicked, however if we are complacent then we can become an attractant to what is evil and wicked.
Stay focused on Jesus Christ, let His light shine through you to a hurting world, encourage your brothers and sisters in Christ, love one another, be kind and forgiving just as Christ forgave you! These things are righteous and holy, these are the things which set us apart from an evil world. Do not become complacent in your walk with the Lord, but rather seek Him first in all things, give Him thanks, give Him the glory! Amen.
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
