Commentary By: Gordon King
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
The apostle Paul wrote that we are to put on the whole armor of God in order to withstand the wiles of the devil. What exactly is Paul talking about by the “armor of God” and the “wiles of the devil”?
As Christians we are in Christ and Christ is in us, the armor of God is nothing more or less than Christ Himself! We are to walk in Christ and Christ must walk in us, this is the armor that Paul is talking about, it is Christ! We are to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. It is not our power but the power of Christ! Christ’s power reigns in us if we allow it to, it is able to withstand the enemy and to overcome the darkness.
What are the wiles of the devil? The dictionary describes “wiles” as: devious or cunning stratagems employed in manipulating or persuading someone to do what one wants. The wiles of the devil are devious and cunning strategies used by Satan to manipulate us and persuade us into believing lies and following him.
The world is full of evil and wicked plans and schemes all of which come from Satan and his demonic forces. Evil in the world is on the rise and we must be aware of it in order to not fall into their traps! We must know about his schemes, his lying wonders.
We all know that most of the mainstream media lies, that they not only twist the truth but actually make things up! We also often hear world leaders spouting lies of deception and untruths. We hear and see many people in the world committing evil and wicked acts, we hear of murder, torture, hatred, lawlessness, and violence. We can see the world changing with what is unrighteous and unholy, times are changing but also are morals and values in the world around us. Homosexuality is on the rise as is open marriage, lust, adultery, fornication, all forms of sodomy, hedonism, idolatry, greed, and covetousness. All of these things we see happening blatantly all around us, we know it, we see it, and we can talk about it. We know that these things are wicked and evil, that they all come from demonic spirits.
But what about things which seem out of the ordinary, what about things which are supernatural? Why doesn’t the church acknowledge that these things are not only happening daily but that they actually exist?!
2 Thessalonians 2:9-10
“The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.“
The apostle Paul tells us that Satan is coming with all power, signs, and lying wonders. And I would argue that this includes many supernatural events!
There have been numerous reports of UFOs, of alien abductions, of the remains of giants, of strange sounds and lights, of events we have never before seen such as blood-red waters and rains! Why isn’t the church talking about these things, warning the flock of such evils in the world?!
Why isn’t the church warning the flock about mass animal deaths, about deadly diseases, about mass starvation, about what is happening in the Middle East?
Why doesn’t the church warn the flock about demonic spirits manifesting themselves into our physical dimension?! Evil spirits are real, demons are real, and the evil workings of Satan in the world is real! Yet, I don’t hear most of the churches speaking up about these things, warning us of their dangers and preparing us to battle against them!
We should all be focused on Jesus Christ, but is that all there is to being a Christian?! Is that all the bible tells us to do and be aware of ? No!!! Absolutely not! If it did then there would not be any mention of Satanic influence in the world, nor would there be any mention of what is to come upon the world, such as Satan’s power, signs, and lying wonders, about giants living in the land before the great flood and after! Just as we are also called to go out into the world and do good works for the Lord, we are also to be aware of the world and of who the ruler of the world is, of the powers he controls and of the signs and wonders he performs.
We battle not against flesh and blood, but against evil and demonic spirits! We must know who our enemy is in order to battle them, but also to not fall into their traps, to not be influenced by these demonic spirits, to know the truth, and to know just how we are to battle them!
Do not be surprised if you see or hear about some strange supernatural events occurring in the world today. When you hear about aliens, UFOS, demonic possessions, strange and unusual lights or sounds know that they could very well be from evil spirits and take heed! Do not be led astray by believing what the world tells you, that they are from another galaxy or planet, that they are here for our good, when they are anything but!
There are coming some great deceptions in the end times, deceptions which are being played out to get us to believe lies, to believe that ancient aliens or gods have created us and are coming to help us in our time of desperation. We must always remember that even Satan comes dressed as an angel of light, and if he can do it so can his demonic forces! Why wouldn’t the church believe in such evil supernatural events now taking place when they believe that Jesus walked on water, that Moses parted the Red Sea, that manna fell from heaven, that Jesus healed the sick, that He raised the dead, and arose from the dead Himself?! What is so outlandish about demonic forces now performing great signs and wonders that we shouldn’t believe that they do occur nor be aware of them?
As followers of Jesus Christ we have the power within us to overcome these demons, we have the power of Christ! We must know the truth, study God’s word, follow the lead of the Holy Spirit, and use prayer daily both in communion with God but also in our defense!
Prayer is a powerful tool, and I would argue that it is the most powerful tool in the arsenal of the believer! It is our weapon of choice when battling these demonic spirits. I believe that the righteous prayers of the saints have the ability to release supernatural powers, that when used the right way in the right context they are extremely powerful! Pray daily, pray with a humble heart, pray without ceasing! Pray with a repentant heart, seek God in reverence, ask Him for mercy and forgiveness, thank Him for all that He does, and give Him all of the glory!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
